Weight Gain During Chemo!?!

Options

I am on my 3rd round of 4, adriamycin/cytoxin and have 4 rounds of taxl after that.  I'm also taking decadron and getting nuelasta.  My worst side effects have been digestive issues probably from the nausea meds and weight gain.  I read all the drug fact sheets and was to to expect weight gain, but its driving me nuts.  My doc says not to worry about losing until I'm all done so I need any ANY advice to deal with 1) the bad taste that I can only seem to control with fatty, salty, or creamy foods (anything that lingers seems to help, but I know is wrong) and 2) is there anything natural to deal with the digestive side??  I'm exercising as my energy level allows, but its not enough.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Petit, I had the same experience during chemo. By the 5th & 6th round I reached a point of such weakness that I couldn't even walk down the driveway to get my mail. Stairs were nearly impossible. Consequently, the weight piled on. I too ate things that I normally don't consume. Mid-way through I started craving hot dogs and chocolate milkshakes.....had each every day! UGH....glad that's over.

Once it dawned on me that it would be a slow road back to having energy and strength, I let myself off the hook until all my treatment was over ( had 38 radiation blasts too ). I would go to my yoga class and pretty much lay there with my legs up the wall for the whole time. It was very frustrating and at the time I thought I would never be able to do all the activities I used to enjoy.

Alas, here I am five months from finishing all that and I am back to eating right, I am back to hiking and going to aggressive yoga classes etc. The weight is starting to come off but I must admit, there is a new normal. I try not to beat myself up about not being as quick or strong as before, and I am seeing that when they say it takes about a year to get back to some form of normal, it's true, and I know I'll get there.....so will you. Be kind to yourself and let this process happen. It takes alot longer than we want it to, but a year from now you'll look back and see how far you've come.

I had the same chemo regimen, and got a horrible taste in my mouth. (the best way i could describe it was that it tasted like metal.)

It helped to suck on lemon candy during the day, and I actually slept with a piece of gum in my mouth during the night, because otherwise the taste was so bad it woke me up.

Hope that helps. Hang in there!
