    Hi all,

I haven't posted in quite a while....been to busy redefining my life and making some big decisions.  I have decided to move to Vancouver next month.  My Toronto onc (who is so lovely) will refer me to an onc in Vancouver.  She knows some out there but I want to hear if anyone can suggest one here (or ones to avoid!).  Also, any hints about support groups, how to play the system, and reconstruction are all appreciated!

    Jacqui

The best Radiation Oncologist in Vancouver is Dr. Ivo Olivotto. He is an amazing man and I;ve come to trust him completely! And the best plastic surgeon in Dr. Chris Taylor from Victoria, BC.

    Cindy in BC, Canada

    Hi Jacqui,

I'm from Vancouver but fairly new in this BC stuff. I'm still waiting for my pathology report so I have met only the surgeon and have no idea about oncologists. Just wanted to say hi and very interested to her what other women suggest, please feel free to ask me any other thing, I hope I will be able to help you,

    Daniela

    Hi Jacqui,

I think it will depend on where you're planning to live and if you want to see an Onc out of your area.  There are three main cancer clinics - Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford.  Reconstruction depends on what type you're looking at.  I wouldn't recommend a DIEP specialist for implants or vice versa.  Feel free to send me a PM and we can discuss in more detail.

Daniela you can PM me too if you like.

I'm in Langley, just outside of Vancouver and I go to Surrey Cancer Centre.  My surgeon is Dr. Rhonda Janzen and my plastic surgeon is Dr. Rizwan Mian.  They work in tandem during surgery - one removing the breast and the other putting in the expander (if that's what you're having done).  My oncologist is Dr. Conrad Oja and he works out of Surrey.  I would recommend him.

And as "She" said it will depend on where you are living as to what cancer centre you will be treated at.

Hope this helps!  By the way... you will LOVE Vancouver!

Well, what is funny is that I was on the BCCA website, looking at new research findings, when I clicked on carreers and before you know it, I am getting a job with PHSA/VCH!  I will be working right next to the Vancouver Cance Centre near City Hall.  When I went in for my interview, I saw several women obviously in the middle of chemos, sitting in the mall.  Might be strange working so close there.  It will also be strange (but in a good way) to not have anyone know about the cancer, as right now, all my immediate and extended colleagues know as they watched me go through chemo and the rest of treatment ( I worked through the whole treatment).  My professional area is pretty small, so even though I will be across the country, I expect rumours to make there way from Toronto to Vancouver.

I am definitely  not wanting implants (rads and other reasons) so am looking for DIEP.  I just had to cancel my long anticipated appts with 2 different Toronto PS. so guess will back to waiting another year for Vancouver PS.  I am meeting with my Toronto onc in June ( I am moving in May and then back in Toronto for a week in June for various odds and ends) and at that time she will refer me to someone in Vancouver.  The Van doc will have big boots to fill!

    Hey there....

I had a good oncologist in Surrey BC.  His name was Dr. Gary Pansegrau...and I do believe now he is head of oncology in Surrey.  He was young and progressive and a real nice guy!

Let us know when you make it to Vancouver......maybe we can have a BC.Org get together....there are a couple of us that meet for coffee now and then.....

    Hugs...Kosh

    HI,

I am new to this community.  Got pathology report of Stage 0-II DCIS after biopsy.  My family doctor just refer me to a General Surgeon GS ( for breast).  Without other arrangement, the GS "advise" me to do Lump or Mast depend on my choice.

Just wonder when or in which stage we need oncologist to involve?   Before surgery, should a patient like me need to get other "test" (like ultrasound, or MRI or...)
