My PS didn't recommend massaging.  When I asked him if I should be massaging the implants, he said I could if I wished.  He indicated, as someone else has said, that massaging was an outdated idea.  One woman on another thread developed "dog ears" at the ends of her incisions after massaging.  So I haven't followed a massaging regimen.

I don't massage mine like I did in the beginning.  I now lay on them for a while each day to help keep the pocket open.  I have a radiated side which is more prone to get CC....so far mine are still soft and I have had my implants for a year.

My PS told me that when the implants are under the muscle like in the LD flap recon I have, there is no need for massaging. The massaging was usually done in previous techniques when the implant was not set under the muscle. He also said to "leave them alone" for now, as they need to "fall" in place and that will take about 3 months.

I feel a big difference before/after the massage. For me, it definitely is helping to keep the new breast more pliant. I think massage is most important for those of us who had rads then implants, without flap surgery.

    Hello Jean!!!!

I like Laura's picture too!!  It reminds me of when she first came to BC.org and in her picture she was wearing large sunglasses......

I can tell a difference after I have massaged my new breast.....OK I finally called them "new breast" instead of foobies.....I am finally beginning to see them as a part of my body...not something fake.

I did have have glasses on in that first picture..WOW Linda.. you remember that.. I also had 1/2 inch of hair..buzzed.. right? Amazing you remember. Lordy that seems so long ago....

Thanks Jean..:)... my hair is growing..:)

Texas.. I agree.. my rads boob is amazingly different after a 15 min massage.. and the non rads boob.. I actually never massage.. it moves normal.

Actually.. I would never even know that these were implants if the rads boob was not a little firmer .. the non rads boob is JUST like a real one..lol.. ( a little higher..:).. my dh tells me it is 'cause my 40 yr old "original" breasts were like they were when I was 20.. I just had really great firm boobs.

He told me ALL OUR LIFE...lol... that my boobs were like little fake ones.. ( B cup)...

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh........ old memories....

    love you girls!

    Laura,

I remember that picture (I think you were like laying out by the pool) because I saw it sooo much...LOL...

I can tell when my rad side needs a massage because I can feel it on my chest wall...does that make sense?  After a massage it feels better. Will I remember to do all this when I am reallllly old..hehehe...probably won't care then....

My rads boob does is tighter and smaller, and I have much more upper pole on that side. I have to be careful about necklines because if the v-neck dips too low I really look funny.

Right now I do about 5-10 minutes hourly during the day. If I do any more, I start to swell (I have mild LE). Also, after having the incision on my rads side open up 3 weeks post op, I want to make sure the nipple incisions are COMPLETELY healed before I get too aggressive.  It's now four weeks post op and if I get lotion on the incision it burns a bit so I am still being careful.

By the way, I have stopped using any products -- including a few that my radiation oncologist had me using -- because they contain parabens and phylatalates, because they are carcinogenic.

suzanne...that is why this discussion site is so great.  We share things that the doctors do not bother to tell us. Their job is just to take our boobs and build them back.  I really do not think they know all this stuff.  Wonderful that we have each other to share these important issues.

Well, I'm a bit concerned ~ I had left mastectomy 2005 and rt mast Feb 2011 with tissue expanders in both. Had the exchange done (both 300 cc round textured silicone) May 5th and the rt one looks pretty normal & rounded, the left one is flat on the front rather than rounded. Not sure why there a flat spot ?  Do they change shape at all (drop or fluff) Should I massage them as they are textured to avoid cc?  Maybe the massage will help change the shape?  I can't seem to get that video to work ~ my PS wasn't much help either ~ just not having any luck today.  :-(

I had no problem downloading the video.

ditan3....I don't think you are suppose to massage textured implants. Sorry I cannot help you with your questions.

Not sure what the original video was, but here's one that I found. Not sure if it's MX approved, and be forewarned that there are some nekkid tatas in the other videos off to the side.

Found this video, first technique is exactly what my ps recommended. Looks painful but will try.
