elevated alkaline phosphatase
hi, i'm in the middle of my 5th round of xeloda (one week on, one week off), for bone mets and one small liver met. the liver involvement was diagnosed right after my 5th year anniversary with bone mets. my cea was rising for the first time ever, and i knew something was up. since taking xeloda, my cea is getting lower (from 7.9 - 4.3), but my alkaline phosphatase is rising (now 155) up 13 points in 3 weeks...my question is, have any of you had xeloda work on liver, while bone mets keep growing? also, how high has your alk.phos gone, and how did that correlate to your bone/liver involvement...thanks for any shared experiences with this...

Wavesworld, I have not taken xeloda so I cant comment. Because your cea is lower I know thats a good thing. As far as the alkaline phos. goes mine was on the high side of normal with wide spread met to spine, femur, fractured ribs, hips so I don't think mine are reliable. But again the cea is good.

I am not sure about xeloda but i know that chemo can cause alk phos to go up a bit. My alk phos was high normal on Taxol last fall. I do not have any known liver or bone mets. I am on Xeloda now and my alk phos is normal, but again I know some chemos can make the liver function elevated. I have a friend who had to stop xeloda because of this side effect. Glad your CEA is better!

Wavesworld,
I was dx with bone mets in December. I've been on Femara and Zometa since. My alk phos went from 76 in Dec. to 136 this past week. The CT in December identified some suspicious spots on my liver. I had another CT done last week but haven't gotten my results yet. From what I've read about high alk phos levels it could be a problem with the liver or rapid bone growith. I'm hoping in my case that since the Zometa is supposed to strengthen the bone that this is the cause. I guess I won't know until I get my CT results.

I wont do any scans until two more months and i am hell worried . Could it be from xeloda or is it something with liver or bone ? Google is a mashed amount of informations I couldn't understand if xeloda can cause alp level to increase or not . Can you help please
