Do you keep your onc when you go on clinical trial w/new onc?

I am entering the Neratinib trial and as it goes for a year of treatment and then four years of follow-up I'm wondering about how this effects visits to my original oncologist?

Since I will be having quarterly consults in the trial, it makes no sense to continue to see my original onc semi-annually as I would if not participating.

How do others handle this?  Thanks.

I was told that after the first year, you can have the results from your regular onc sent to the trial onc so you don't have to see both. I would assume you could do the reverse as well.

A slightly different scenario for me as I am stage 1V and am on chemo for life, so always need to return to my original onc (whom I normally see every 3 weeks). But I participated recently in a trial for 6 months, and in that time, my care and monitoring was done exclusively by the trial team. There was no need for consults with original onc in this time, as the trial consultant copied him in to all results, so additional monitoring would have been conterproductive. I had further progression after nearly 7 months, so resumed treatment seamlessly with the original team. I couldn't speculate what would happen at the end of yoiur trial period-it could be that they would likley want to alternate consultations-but I would doubt it very much that they would double the consults! In the meantime, I would be very comfortable simply seeing the trial onc-their level of monitoring will be excellent.

I see both. My normal oncologist less often.

Thanks, these seem like reasonable approaches.  I'll talk to my original and new onc in order to figure out the best way for me to go.
