The dumbest things people have said to you/about you

Gosh ladies I feel I must defend my wonderful husband. Next week we will be married 37 years. He's had several medical episodes (heart attack@ 49 years old and knee replacement in 12/08 right after my BMX). He has been with me every step of the way. He was with me when my mom was diagnosed and died of bc. He did her funeral (he's a chaplain). He went with me to every appointment and every chemo. He's the one who jumped up on a brand new knee and ran when I couldn't breathe (allergic reaction to taxotere) and passed out. He took days off to be with me after chemo when I wasn't all there. We probably didn't say 2 words to each other, but I just needed him to be there.
I'm in Vegas on a trip now. He didn't come with me and I miss him terribly. Did have a sales clerk say something stupid to me last night. She noticed my Verra Bradley purse (BC design). She commented on it and asked if I had bc. I told her yes, I'm an 18 month survivor. She then proceeded to tell me it was because of what I ate. I unloaded on her as tactfully as I could. In the south we say "bless your heart" which isn't a compliment. I blessed her heart.
Hang in there ladies, we are there for each other when others cannot be.
-
Sharon: I totally hear you. I'm triple neg, too. Sorry you are having to deal with extra issues. I imagine there are a lot of us who will be getting the "you're cured" reaction when we still feel in this horrid limbo.
-
My suggestion wasn't meant to be offensive. I tried to explain that in my follow up post. There are laws that protect people from being taken advantage of when they are most vulnerable. I am sorry that you have regarded my suggestion to be other than it was. Please accept my apology.
Best wishes for a happy and compassionate work place.
-
(((Sharon))) That sucks! Your hubby is not supportive and you deserve much better than that!
-
Thank you, Sisters for all the HUGS! The support this very special group is such a help. I feel like I can relate to everyone and not have to explain myself. It takes a lot of energy to try and explain how a person with cancer diagnosis feels. There is a guy I work with that has active cancer and he knows. It is like a private club. He doesn't have to say much, just says what chemo he is on now and that is all he has to say. I totally understand and he knows it. He is very dear.
Yes, we will continue to be able to visit our concerns and I am very happy.
Blessings to all.
Love
Sharon

p.s.
Yes, he is still my husband....there is a reason for this. I will not go in detail at this time. Maybe later. $$

Sharon I just realized that me asking if he is still your husband probably ranks up there with one of the dumbest, insensitive things someone has said to you. I am sorry. See even we say insensitive things sometimes.
Not a question I should have asked you.
-
I can't figure out how to start a new topic so I'm hoping the moderators will create one with my question,. I wonder how many of us have lost friends due to their dx and people saying dumb and thoughtless things. Also how many have gained friends and a support group from mere acquaintances that you find are "sisters" as BC survivors too. I have had both happen to me.
-
I'm finally getting around to taking the CPA exam (graduated almost 2 years ago). Someone asked me why I'm taking the exam (she was either implying that I should focus on my health or she meant to imply that I already have a professional career). Maybe I've been spending too much time on the forum... I told her because I have to give up my dream of becoming a topless dancer due to bc.
-
We can't be wet nurses either. Darn my 2 favorite career goals----wet nurse and topless dancer are out of the picture!
-
Gee, flyingdutchess, why can't you be a topless dancer? OK, wet nurse I get (we can't be sperm donors either) but if you can dance you can dance....
(it's late at night here nd I'm feeling silly).

My computer is weird. Most of what I said in my post didn't get printed and when I tried to edit or delete it I couldn't. Like I said, it's late at night so maybe my computer is tired.
What was omitted:
Gee, flyingdutchess, why can't you be a topless dancer? Ok, wet nurse I understand (we can't be sperm donors either) but if you can dance you can dance....

Most of what I said in my post was not printed. I tried to edit or delete the first post but couldn't. I tried to add it and the same thing was not printed. It's weird, it's late at night, and I'm going to bed.
Good night all.

flyingd: Speaking of support from mere acquaintances. I was standing outside when the fire alarm went off at my place of work and ended up having the warmest conversation with a young woman I met. Her father has lymphoma and a 21 year old friend has BC, and she was incredibly thoughtful in her comments. I returned to work feeling uplifted. Some folks have a well-developed sense of empathy.
-
notself: I was trying to tell you I was NOT offended. I know you were offering a suggestion.
Astorm: Good for you! I hope you did well on your exam!
To all of you who have the nerve to speak up when someone is rude: HOORAY! Maybe I'll get the nerve someday!
-
flyingd: I suppose I could become an exotic dancer. By exotic, I mean I'm about 40 pounds overweight, I have 2 new huge "boobs" with scars all over them. That might meet the definition of exotic. I breastfed 3 boys. Wet nurse would be out of the question, even if I had breasts
-
There's a topless coffee bar not far from where I live that's been making a ruckus in the news off and on for the last couple years. First when it opened, later when it was the victim of arson, then when it re-opened in a tent until the new building could be built. My question is, if I, as a women with one breast, were to go to work in a topless coffee shop, whould I get full pay or half pay?
-
bcincolorado - Maybe you could get a prescription for some Ambien to help you sleep better. My doctor prescribed it as I had not slept good for 2 years when I had the intense itching thing. Thank God that is almost resolved, but I have to say, I do love my Ambien. I don't take it every night, but just knowing I have it if I need to get a good night's sleep is a relief. (O.K. do I sound like a drug addict?)

NativeMainer and Mary: You two are so funny! Made me smile this morning! I'm glad I checked the "boards" before goingn to work this morning!
Sydney6: No Ambien for me though. My husband got addicted to it when he worked a night shift at Apple many years ago. Makes me too nervous. I'll survive the days on Diet Coke instead.
-
No problem, Susiered. I have often pondered the same question.
-
HUMMM NativeMaine: I think you would have a great case with the ADA. Full pay for only one boob.
-
Maybe I should go over and apply for a part time job!!??
-
Oh, I don't know, NativeMainer....I bet they'd pay double for a uniboober....."curiousity pay"....ha!
-
hey, and maybe I'd get even more since I'm robin-no-breast......I'm sure someone would want a quick peak just to see what a no-breasted woman would look like.....(but they don't get to see ME!!)
-
You ladies crack me up! What a great way to end my week! My boss is out at a closing (I work for a mortgage company) and I'm all alone and can "goof off" the last few minutes of the day and read and find these bits of humor to cheer me up before I go home. Thank you all for sharing your humor!
One more stupid thing my boss said to me was that she didn't realize I had to have "surgery" to do my TE exchange! How did she think they would get it out? When I asked her, she said she thought they somehow "popped it out" and just put in the implant! Like I have a zipper in there or something!
-
bcincolorado: what a visual of a zipper and "popping" it out. Wasn't quite that easy. I cease to be amazed at people's stupidity.
-
Mary and Native Mainer. I nursed 4 sons and the factory is closed anyway. I am 80 lbs overweight and my left breast has the lovely scars of 3 surgeries (4th due on May 18) so I could join your exotic dancer club. Now I can't dance worth s####t, but my body would be the attraction. Why don't we form a troop of exotic dancers. If the place burns down we'll have one HOT time of it. Does anyone else want to join us? Perhaps there is a potential topless waitress among us and we could all work at Hooters!
I am beginning to start using the games and humor board. Do you guys think that I am healing? I think laughter is such a great healer!
-
FlyingD: I know I'm better when I laugh alot. Humor is my therapy.
-
What a calendar you ladies would make.
-
I wouldn't recommend Ambien. I took it during chemo and sleepwalked. I have no memory of doing it, but we know for a fact that I disconnected our surround sound speakers from our TV and loaded them into the trunk of my car - all while sound asleep. That was the last time I took the stuff, and I will not take it again.
I would, however, recommend Rozerem. It works well for me with no side-effects.
