Should I be worried?

In November 2005 I was diagnosed with IBC, Stage IIIA.  I have experienced hip pain on my right side for a couple of years.  I've had MRIs - the last one was about a year ago - and there was no indication of Mets.  However, no one could tell me what was causing it.  One doctor thought it was disc compression another thought it had to do with a tendon in my hip.  Another said it was arthritis.  I exercise a lot so I put it out of my mind and just carried on.

Anyway, over the past month the pain is now spread across both hips, like a band of pain below my back.  It is barely noticeable when I am moving around or exercising but when sitting, or lying in bed at night it is really bad, like a burning constant girdle of pain.  Should I be worried?  Should I call my Onc or PCP?  I don't want to be like the boy who cried wolf.

are you on arimidex or femara?  over time; those drugs can cause joint pain and aches and pains.  i too exercise...and noticed not so much pain during...(i am a cyclist) but really stiff in hip and other joints when i was on arimidex.  i started taking calcuim and vit d which helped.  i also got TAC, rads and then the arimidex.  i noticed the aches and pains seemed to be worse as i got closer to my 5 year mark on the arimidex.  since i have been off the arimidex; the pain has lessened.

however, i also think that you know your body better then anyone else; and if the pain continues i would make an appt and discuss with your onc/pcp.  you had cancer....it isn't "calling wolf" when you have pains that don't subside or get worse.  how often do you follow up with onc? check it out if you are worried.

Thanks.  I have been on Tamoxifen and have some joint pain from that but this is not in my joints.

I got my MD from a box of Crackerjacks, but I think any unresolved pain that lasts longer than a 3 - 4 weeks should be worked up in someone with a history of stage 3 cancer, esp if the pain is getting worse over time and you didn't do anything to cause an injury.  Hopefully it is absolutely nothing, but better safe than sorry and all that.  Good luck and remember the mantra that not all pain is cancer.
