Invasive Local Recurr after Mast 4 DCIS: your experience?

Hi,

I had a bilateral mastectomy in Dec 2007 for pure DCIS, ER+ PR+. The longest diameter of the mass was 8cm. My mastectomy had clean margins, 2mm all over.

2 years later I had a small invasive recurrence below my core needle biopsy scar which was a little ways away from my original mass. I just finished chemo, and I'm deciding on radiation and the type of hormone therapy.

I'm curious if other women out there have had invasive recurrences after mastectomy for DCIS, what they did for treatment, and how they are fairing now. There is not much data on this situation, so doctors do not really know the best treatment. I'm collecting data.

I found one scientific paper tracking 6 women with this: two women just did radiation and eventually got local recurrences in the radiated breast and finally metastatic cancer. 4 women did radiation, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy and are still alive with no evidence of disease, one with a 12 year track record. Can anyone else share their experience?

Thank you!
