April 4th, a different kind of anniversary

One year ago I started running b/c I didn't want to work out next to the person who was standing next to me. She irritated me and I just had to get away! So, I walked over to the treadmill. Interesting machine, I knew how it worked, I had walked on it before, way long ago. I had never really needed to workout, I've always been pretty slender but during a follow up appointment my oncologist said working out helped in preventing a reccurence. Anyway, fast forward to April 4th. I got on the treadmill, started walking and then I picked up the pace to slow jog and kept going for a whopping 3 minutes before I gave out. Tee-hee. But I kept at it. Everyday after that I added a minute or two. One year later I consider myself a dedicated runner. I get out there 4 or 5 times a week running a minimum of 4 miles a day depending on how I feel. I ran a half marathon in Feb. Who would have thought? Running has done so much for me. It helps me to relax, renew myself and to meditate. I love it! Two years ago if someone would have said that I'd be a runner I would have said they'd lost their mind. But here I am. Proof that we can achieve anything we set our minds to do!!

Congratulations!  You should be very proud of yourself.  Exercise is wonderful for us.  The endorphins and stress release that we get from it are amazing.  Keep it up!

I'm so glad to have read your post.

Back in Nov/Dec, I started to do the treadmill thing too. Run 2 min...walk 1 min and gradually increase. I got to 5 minutes of continual running. I had surgery late Jan this year, infection and 2 horrible colds and just forgot about the gym. Im definatly going back. Your story  motivates me. Thank you!!

Way to go!!!!  I have always said that I am not a runner....wasn't at 21 and still not at 53, going on 54....but I do enjoy walking...I tried mall walking this winter, but do prefer walking outside.....got out of the routine for a while this winter, but trying to get back into habit...so far have been pretty good this month....
