When the Dr. feels your liver question

Options

Does anyone know what the dr. is feeling for when they feel your liver during checkups?

Are there any telltale signs that may call for more testing when they are feeling the liver?

Thanks for all responses.

To determine if it is enlarged, and if the doctor deems it so, yes, there will be a recommendation for more testing, such as, a CT or PET scan and liver function blood tests.

I;'ve wondered that myself. I thought maybe it would be tender too if something was amiss??

I asked my oncologist that question.  He said it was terribly "unscientific" but that he was checking if I flinched at all.  He checked my spleen too as that can be affected by Taxol.

If I had flinched, he would have ordered further testing.  Some of my liver enzymes were elevated by Taxol, so a quick check.

Of course, I told him that if I could support Main Squeeze's full weight, it was highly unlikely that I had any tenderness there.  So a really easy way to test for this yourself!
