I have a friend newly diagnosed with ductal carcinoma, and trying to find the best physician /oncologist for treatment.

Any suggestions, recommendations in the Metro Detroit Area.. or really anywhere in MI?

You can't go wrong with the U of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.  I highly recommend them.  I wound up having my treatment in East Lansing as it was closer but got a 2nd opinion from U of M and am participating in a clinical trial there.

I was treated at St. Joseph in Ann Arbor, with no complaints.  I became familiar with U of M as my DH was treated there for a different Cancer.  My SIL is using (I believe) Henry Ford near Farmington Hills......it's a brand new hospital, and she is very happy.  Not really an answer for you, but a few that I know about.

    Wishing her the best,

    Denise

    Dear cordnerck,

I'm an employee of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and came across your post requesting a hospital/oncologist recommendation for your friend. The best place to start is with the National Cancer Institute, which recognizes cancer centers across the country for their excellence in cancer treatment, research, and education. These centers are known for their extensive experience in treating all cancers, so you know you will be in good hands. Studies show that patients often have better outcomes when their operations are performed by surgeons who do a high volume of the same operation.

Here is a link to the page listing NCI-designated cancer centers by state: http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html#MI (I see that there are two in Michigan: one at U of Michigan and another at Wayne State). You might be interested in checking out each center or the one closest to your friend for an expert in breast cancer.

I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck to your friend as she gathers information and decides which hospital and physician is right for her. -Esther
