Actually forgot about bc for a moment...
I am just finished with chemo, ready to head back for reexcision of 2nd mastectomy for clean margins in a few weeks and still staring down radiation over the summer. Sometimes bc seems to lead me like a bull by a nose ring...but there are days like today that I am reminded to live for and that make me thankful for every delicious moment.
My 14 year old son won a national science competition. College professors were all around him as applause thundered in a huge auditorium. He raised his arm to wave at me, and on his arm he had one of those pink bc awareness bands. It snapped me back, but made me smile.

What a fantastic post. Many congratulations to your son-both on his achievement and his fabulous support. It brought a tear to my eye....Glad that you are able to see and accept that cancer doesn't have to dominate your life-so congratulations to you too!

Congratulations for your son's achievements, and I am not just talking about the science award but also for the awesome support he is showing his mother and all the rest of the women (and men) impacted by breast cancer. I have spent alot of time thinking about the negative way that BC could impact my daughter and teenage step-kids but I also catch glimpses of how going through this with me will make them stronger and more compassionate toward others. Who knows, since you son is into science maybe he will be the person who discovers how to put an end to BC and all other cancers once and for all.
You should be proud of yourself for raising such an awesome person.

You know what? Sometimes I just check Active Topics to see if I might help someone else, and tonight this one helped me
Lost a good friend the other day but this post reminded me of all the good out there. How proud you must be of your son, and rightfully so. That he had the bracelet on is beyond awesome - tears of joy here on your behalf too. Thanks for posting
