ultrasound and biopsy today
well went to a breast clinic today for a second ultrasound after antibiotics didnt work, they thought i needed to get a biopsy done and said i have peau d'orange it's the size of half a dollar bill with redness, the ultrasound still showed thickening of the skin and increased blood flow. Then went to see a general surgeon after, he said the couple of cases hes seen of ibc it covered the whole breast and was hard and that mine didnt look that bad so he doesnt think I have it and a biopsy wouldn't be neccesary and my ultrasounds didnt show anything, he said there is no definite test for ibc and that he doesnt think i have an infection either and he doesnt know whats wrong and to just wait and see if it goes away, I convinced him to do a punch biopsy. Oh he said an ultrasound is the best way to detect ibc so I can be reasured that I probably dont have it,but thats not what I've read at all, I feel so discouraged.

I'm glad you talked him into doing a biopsy, that is the only way to determin if you have it or not. An ultrasound is NOT the best way. I had a mamogram and an ultrasound. Neither one showed anything. Only the biopsy. If they haden't done the biopsy...God only knows how long it would have taken to say YES, you have cancer. They caught it early enough, but with IBC you are automatically Stage 3. If they would have messed around by the time they said yes I would have been at Stage 4. Thank God I have good doctors. I go in on Thursday, April 8th for surgery. Good Luck. And here's hoping the biopsy is b9.

I had a punch biopsy; not sure if that makes a difference. He kept saying that it was unnecessary. The breast clinic told me if nothing gets solved with him to come back there, they seemed way more concerned and knowledgeable about it. I'm glad you had a good doctor, seems like very few are educated on IBC. Good luck on your surgery and thank you.

You sound like you are in a similar situation to me. My left breast has swollen and become so painful overnight. It was crazy. I had a mammogram and sonogram both came out good. Went to the er room twice because of the pain and the first time was before the mammogram and he said wait to see what it said and the second time was afterwards and he gave me the antibiotics and sent me home. The antibiotics did not do really anything. Maybe the swelling went down a bit. I saw a breast surgeon and she checked me thoroughly and said she did not feel any lumps to be concerned about and that there was no signs of infection. I asked her about ibc and she told me that it was really rare and with my young age (I am 37) it is doubtful that is what it was. I asked her straight out what was causing it then and she said that "she has absolutely no answer for me". She said to just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse go to my pcp or come back to her then she changed her mind and said to see my pcp in about 3 weeks. She told me that there was no need for a biopsy because i have no rash and there is really no where for her to biopsy and that the insurance would nto want to pay for a scan with only two symptoms (pain and swelling) I really wish they could just rule it out and do the freaking tests instead of waiting and seeing. I have five little boys that need me and am really upset that I am just supposed to wait. I am in pain right now and it just seems that they think it is all in my head or something. I don't know what to do. My husband said to call and make her schedule a scan and if the insurance wont pay for it we will just make payments on it until it is paid off. I wish I would have been able to get her to do a biopsy like you did. Did you get the results yet? Is it possible to biopsy the breast to test for ibc when there is no rash and the only symptoms are pain and swelling?
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Trish
