Baby Quest.. Please help!
I wad dx w/ Stage II BC @ age 27. Did A/C, Taxol, Herceptin. I finished my last tx on September 2008. Can someone please tell me if my period will ever return??? I really want a baby sooo bad...What can I do to start me to ovulat once again? My GYN is unsure of my chances. Good news is that my Estrogen level has gone from 4-34 in the last year. (normal is 100). Is there a fertility drug that can help me ovulate and have a cycle?? ANy info is greatly apreciated, thanks for listening to me, as my heart is truely aching @ this moment. ;(

I was 26, a week shy of 27 when I was diagnosed (stage 2a) in February of 2008 I did 3 rounds of FEC ( I believe that would be similiar to your AC) and 3 rounds of taxotere. I finished my treatments in July of 2008. As of June I had officially lost my period. In September I started on tamoxifen and in January my period was back! (Period was MIA for about 7 months) I had the same worries as you! I was freaked out that I would never be able to have kids. Even with my period, my doctors could not guarantee that I could get pregnant. I stopped tamoxifen in May 2009 and in August I was given the ok to start trying to get pregnant. It took us three months and I am now expecting a boy in June! There is hope!! I have heard of woman being given medication (horomonal I am assuming) to kick start there period. I would suggest going to see a fertility specialist, preferably one with experience in treating women who have undergone chemo. I did and we were considering IUI and IVF as my afc count (eggs) were low for my age because of the chemo. Luckily it happened naturally. From what I read, there is quite a variance in the amount of time that women get back their periods...

Well I am not sure the tamoxifen was what brought back my period, I think the stats are that 50% of women on tamoxifen get their period but irregularly, 25% dont get it at all and rest get them regularly. This being said tamoxifen (when taken in high doses and for short periods of time) can actually increase fertility, however when taken in smaller doses regularly, as with cancer patients, it is suppose to supress your reproductive system. Let me know how your appointment went with the specialist!!! Hopefully it is good news!!!
