You Have To Be Kidding Me
Sooo, I'm all set to meet with the radiation oncologist next week, and just ready to move on. Well last night I had some discharge from my nipple. This is what sent me to the BS in the first place, and was found to have DCIS. I had 3 lumpectomy with 15cm of tissue taken out, and was told to have clean margins. Now what the hell is this???? I thought for sure I would Never see this discharge again.. I did have some sloshing in the surgical site for about a week and half, and fluid that leaked from my incision is consistent with the discharge, however it looks like what sent me to the doctor in the first place, GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm going BACK AGAIN to find out if this is just fluid build up from lumpectomy or what.... Has this happened to anyone?????????????? Could this be a seroma?????

I think fluid/seroma from surgery is most likely the culprit.

Thanks Rose for responding. I just spoke with the PA, as my BS is out, and he said the same thing. I'm just so over this roller coaster ride... He told me to not do any pressing to get it to drain, because it will just fill back up. Grrrrrrrrr. I just need/want it to go away soon...

I had leakage (from seroma) for almost a year. At one point they ordered a biopsy - but all was fine it was just a lot of fluid.

Nipi,
If you don't mind me asking, what colour was the discharge that started with the BC originally. I am having a lumpectomy next Tuesday. They discovered an abnormal growth after fluid started leaking from my right nipple. At first they were thinking papilloma but after looking at the results of my ductogram my oncologist wanted me in the OR right away.
I have a feeling in my gut that I'm about to get some bad news. I'm 49 with a sister that had very aggressive BC at 57.
Mine all started with the discharge, but I am getting quite a bit of pain at times as well.
I'm just curious to the colour that you started with.
TIA, Chancesmom

Hi Chancesmom,
The color was amber. I also had papillomas as well as DCIS. Sending positive thoughts your way! Please keep us posted.

Chances mom
I also started with a nipple discharge, spontaneous and clear. After many tests nothing was found to cause it. Nothing showed on my ductogram or US.
A diagnostic mammo found a large area of microcalcifications very close to the chest wall. My BS did a excisional biop of that area as well as the ducts behind the nipple.
Both areas have DCIS with no clear margins.
I'm scheduled for a mastectomy on the 14th.
Good that you are having the lumpectomy, hope that yours is just a papilloma and no cancer.
