SCARED.. 1ST MAMO SINCE DIAG

Options

Hi all

Wednesday I go into Sloan to get my first mamo since diagnosis last June.  I had surgery in July, chemo Sept-Dec and rads Jan-March.  I am nervous.  I just don't want any problems.  I just went back to work and I am starting to feel "normal" again.  I have pain though in my back and by my ribs (I keep thinking it is from the chemo and going back to work being on my feet all day).  I just am praying for a break...

Thanks for reading my anxiety rant.  Chris

That is why I hate routine tests.  Stage III...so I don't have them.  However, wanted to let you know that the chemo is a gift that keeps on giving.  I still have to wrap my legs at work.  It really helps.

I was a total wreck at my first mammo after diagnosis.  I actually passed out when they came to get me back for more views even though I had been warned that would probably happen.  I got totally hysterical at the second mammo when they came for more views.  Year 3, I was crying so hard and so upset they had to put me in a room by myself to wait to get taken back for more views and after so I wouldn't upset the other women there for routine mammograms.  It's a trial, it's hard, and it's a normal reaction.  One thing you can do is have the doctor who orders your mammograms set up an appointment for the same day as the mammo, and hand carry the films to the doc so you get the results the same day.  That's the only way I can get through that horrible process.  And I will be sooooo glad when I have the other breast taken off and I don't have to go through that any more!

I was really scared too. Since waiting is usually the hardest part, I had my cancer social worker call the department, and we had the radiologist read it right after it was taken. That way I did not have to wait a few days wondering. You should call in or have an official call and see if you can have the same thing done. And maybe schedule a massage or something nice for afterwards. I'm almost due for my 2nd mammo after diag, and I am no where near as nervous, so it does get better in time. Good luck!

Thank you for all your kind words and reassuring me that I am completely normal for being freaked out right now.  I am lucky, my mammo happens and then I go directly to meet with my surgeon.  Everything will be read then... for the good or the bad.

I wanted to thank you all again for your kinds words.  Yesterday I had the mammo and everything is PERFECT!!  getting my port out today.  My surgeon told me she does not expect me to have to use her "services" again.  How wonderful.  I can breathe again!
