3 Month Mammo checking area that report says is probably benign

Hello All,

I have been on the board for about a year and have found some very useful information on here.

I a writing because I am stressed about an upcoming Mammo.  I delayed my 1st Mammo after treatment which was lumpectomy and Accelerated partial breast irradiation because of chronic pain in my breast, finally had it in Dec. to assists the doctor in asperating a cyst in the lumpectomy site to try and relieve the chronic pain.

The report from the Mammo and Ultrasound said that a spot had been found that was probably benign but I need to come back in 3 months for a follow-up (I am on a 3 month cycle anyway).

So the follow-up Mamo and Ultrasound are Thursday April 1.  I have been pushing this to the back of my mind but now I am really anxious.  I keep telling myself the report said that is was probably benign but I can't help remembering last year when everyone kept telling me that about my first breast cancer.

    Just wanted to let you know your are not alone, hon.  I am right there beside you.  I was diagnosed 1 year ago Feb 23, 2009 and went as agressive as possible due to my triple neg.  I just went for my second "sixth month mammo" on cancer breast and first "yearly" on both.  My BS (she works in a breast cancer center, where I have my mammos, Ultra sounds, etc. done) told me my mammo were clear and good - no cancer, but my US showed a small seroma or cyst at the bottom of my internal surgical scar right above the chest muscle so I needed to have a MRI.  She assured me it was only a seroma or small cyst, but I was still paralyzed by fear that, if that's the case, then why the MRI?  Others have told me that they too had to have a MRI after a seroma was found on US, so I shouldn't be scared, but with this damn disease - who wouldn't be.  I have to schedule the MRI tomorrow and sweat out the time until and then after it's done for the results.  So, you can well see, I share your trepidations and fear as well.  Good luck to us both!

    sherrypl...I went thru the same thing in July last year only they told me to wait for 6 months.  I was a nervous wreck  I went in Jan and had the follow up and they said lets do a biopsy as they did not like the looks and put it at a birad 4.  Again scared to death and thank goodness it came back b9....I will have another mammo in July and if this one is ok I get to go back to once a year again as I will be three years out then.  I think they are just wanting to double check with the history of someone with breast cancer.  I will say a prayer for ya but remember it is probably nothing.  I know easier said then done......;(        Hang in there and if ya need to talk I have found you are in the right place...jude14

    Thanks for the uplifting posts.

    I have to go out of town on a business trip getting back late Wed.  So hopefully I can forget about it until I wake up Thursday morning.  Hopefully my husband can go with me,  He has not been working much so if work is there he will have to go but I secretly hope there isn't any work for him that day.  I need someone to be with me or I feel I may just take a long ride in the country and enjoy the spring day instead of go to the appointment.  Sometimes I don't know how I (or any of us)get the courage for these appointments.

    Tomorrow is the big day, 9:00 am Mammo and Ultra Sound.  I fly home tonight from CA to IL, that should give me plenty of time to freak myself out.  On top of it my surgeon called yesterday to make sure I was getting the Mammo and Ultra Sound this month, I told him I was nervous enough without him calling me before the test and I told him I hope not to talk to him anytime soon :-)

    Mammo is clear, no Ultra Sound needed. Back to normal 3 month checkups. Anxious for nothing.  My Niece came to the exam with me as my husband had to work. I can't thank her enough, it really helped me get the strength to walk in those door.
