Spinning my way back to me

I just had to come back to  this website to share my positive recovery.  I visited and shared here frequently during my BC battle.  I went through my BC  and Bilateral Mastectomies with expanders and replacement surgery during late 2008 and 2009.

Just as I finished chemo, my healthy husband died of a heart attack while exercising on the treadmill.  Did my exchange surgery in July and have been very depressed and sedentary until February.  I just got sick and tired of being sad and miserable all of the time.  I could not stand being in my own company.  So I joined a gym.  I thought I would ease my way back into fitness slowly.  I committed to working out 3 times a week.  I started feeling better and kept my promise to myself to workout.  One of my girlfriends and I decided to go to a Zumba class for variety and I hurt my knee shaking my booty.  I was bummed - but persisted.  I decided to try a spinning class because that is less impact.  I am addicted!  When I get on that bike in the dark room with the music blasting, I feel invincible.  Like I am taking back my life!  I want to shout out that I am winning.  I have already lost about 12 pounds.

During this past year I have had several recurrence fears/scares and have not been able to move past the cancer and/or my grief.  The time has come to find my way back to me.  I would encourage everyone to find the exercise that gives them the same high I get from spinning.

Thanks for listening!

Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

I'm kind of on the same timeline as you. 8/08/08 is when I was diagnosed.  It's good you found spinning.  I know my daughter loves it.  Personally, I'm a walker, but I think everyone needs something.

It was very uplifting  reading your story.

Sharon what a wonderful story, we are all different and there are so many types of exercise and you just have to find what works for you, I post mostly on the 'Lets Post our Daily Exercise" thread and we all do different things, I am a "class" person, some days my knees creak and my feet hurt but I love the gym and panic if I'm going to be late for a class, I'm so glad you found your passion, come over and join us, you are an inspiration.

I just got home from spinning. I love it! I just started going a few weeks ago. I didn't think I could handle it but being in a room full of other people pushing themselves and having an instructor encouraging me along, I somehow always get through it. I highly encourage everyone to try it even if the resistance is all the way down (no one else will know).
