Why do I get those cramps in my leg
Cant understand why those cramps are not going away. I do lots of walking, exercise, swimming.......
Resting at night, but then

Is this from Tamox. could it be from the baby aspirin...Bothers me a lot.

I get them. Especially during my sleep....what sleep I get.
Mamita,
I stopped Tamox for 4 weeks. NO LEG CRAMPS. Im blaming the Tamox. Can't wait for my ooph and to stop the Tamox.
-
I take arimidex and get them...I hate them!! But I also take Crestor for cholesterol and it could be that too. I try to drink a glass of tonic w/quinine everyday. If I stay faithful to it, then the cramps diminish. Good luck!
-
are you getting enough calcium and vit d?
-
I also get leg cramps that started when I started the tamox. If I take calcium I don't get them. They're back this week because I had a colonoscopy and the prep messed up my electrolytes.

I too got horrible leg (calf) cramps usually in the morning when I stretched. I'm on Arimidex. For some reason and I have no idea why, they stopped. I too take (over the counter) Calcium and Vit D. I also had horrendous chemo like heartbearn several mornings a week. That too has stopped and again I have no idea why. Maybe it takes this long for the chemo to leave our bodies?
Carol, I hope your's too disappear as mine seem to have.

I get leg cramps if I do not eat a banana at least every 2 to 3 days, for me it seems to be related to potassium.

I am certain my leg cramps were from the tamox. I never had leg cramps before. They were terrible and I even had a leg swelling and then ultasounds to rule out bloodclots. I kept asking if it was the tamox and doctors kept saying that it was not a side effect related to Tomox. I started to research tamox on my own and I found a lot of women were saying that they were getting leg cramps. I believed the women far more than the doctors who have never taken it. I also was having terrible mental health problems that I never had before. They were giving me so many diffferent meds to counteract this which just made things worse. I was a disaster! I never had these issues before and they kept saying it was from dealing with the diagnosis. I did not believe this since all through surgeries, dense dose chemo, rads, etc I was just fine and even kept working only missing a few days here and there. I got to the point I was delusional in a way. I was not hearing voices, but the normal voice in my head (the one we all have:) were very loud and were saying nasty things to me. I was having an emotional melt down. I got so frustrated that I stopped all the extra meds they were giving me just to make sure that was not the problem. and I was still having issues. I started to really look into the tamox and read studies not typically located on normal web searches and found that tamox can cause delusions and extreme mental health issues in rare cases. I found other women that were having the same problems even though all the doctors said it was not related to tamox. At this point I stopped the tamox out of desperation. Within two weeks I found myself normalizing again. My head, emotions, and thought process all cleared up and the leg cramps all stopped, never to return. Within a month I was back to normal again. Although I was in my late 40s when chemo put me into menopause, my periods also came back again. I am not recomending for anyone to stop tamox, just to be aware that the doctors do not know what this stuff can do to a woman and you have to trust yourself first. My new oncologist (I got frustrated with my old one dismissing all my concerns with "it is not a known side effect" ) was very nice and said that these things can happen with tamox, and that some women can just not take it, and not to beat myself up about it. He said they basically flooded my system with synthetic hormones and that this can cause different symptoms in everyone. I wish he had been my oncologist when I was going through all the problems. It has been over a year now and the problems never returned........

I know tamoxifen can cause them. I have them occasionally since starting tamoxifen, and my onc said they are associated with tamoxifen. Luckily I only seem to get them about once per month, but they're really bad when they happen. Low calcium/vit d might cause them, too, I don't know...

bananas definitely.. i had pretty bad cramp-icks on taxol.. also blackstrap Molasses (full strength) a couple times a day or stirred into hot milk or water gives you much needed calcium, potassium and a great shot of energy.
from wikipedia
"Blackstrap molasses is a source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron; one tablespoon provides up to 20% of the daily value of each of those nutrients.[3][4] Blackstrap, often sold as a health supplement, is also used in the manufacture of cattle feed and for other industrial uses"

I;ve been getting legs cramps...and I'm been done chemo for 3 1/2 years (TAC chemo) and stopped my AI;s for 2 months a week ago....haven't taken my magnesium or D in a couple weeks...need to start tracking how I feel and what I take daily to see what is what

I have always had leg cramps. They were especially bad when I was on tamoxifen. These are the things that I have found helpful.
magnesium, glucosomine with chondrotin AND MSM, a banana every day. I also have an electric blanket that I put under and over my legs when I go to bed. It has made a big difference.
-
I had really bad leg cramps for about the first 2 months on tamox. I had to sleep with the heating pad. I did try putting a bar of soap at the bottom of the bed and it did seem to help. I'm not sure why though, but I got that tip here. They have since subsided, I only get the nightsweats now.
-
Okay I wasn't going to mention the bar of soap. We had a lot of fun with that earlier. But I have to say that there definitely was a correlation with the soap and my lack of cramps! Give it a try.
-
LOL!
Really!!??

The culprit for my leg cramps is SALT...I can tell you that when I cut down the amount of salt in my diet and have no SALT after 5pm that my leg cramps are non existent...The moment that I have chips or anything with SALT after 5pm I can guarantee that I will have leg cramps that night and I do!..
-
I was getting cramps in my legs and my feet constantly for a few months. It has somewhat subsided in the past month or so. Also, for the first 9 months I was on the Tamox, I got my period the same as always. All of a sudden I got it like twice in 5 weeks and it lasted forever. Now I haven't had it since 1/27/10. Have an oncologist appt this morning & was planning on asking about both these issues.
