When I saw my onc today, he mentioned that he's seen new information released in the last couple weeks regarding the importance of this testing.  He's previously been a little on the fence about the testing, but ordered it for me anyway.  I can't believe I didn't ask him for a source.  <sigh>  I so miss my brain.  Anyway, thought I'd ask if anyone else has heard or seen anything?

I cannot say I saw anything new recently but If you are post menopausal you should definately be tested.  If you are a poor metabolizer of tamoxifin you would be better off with an AI ( femara, aromosin, armidex).  If you are a good metabolizer no problem if you are and intermediate you are kind of in that mushy middle, it you are pre-menopausal I would go try the tamoxifin  and if post -men and AI's are not working for you then maybe I would give the tamoxifin a try.  There are also people who over metabolize and you need to know that too, because you can get over medicated with it and that can be dangerous.  My onc was willing to do the test and I am an intermediate.  Right now I am trying my second AI.  If it works with SE's that I can handle I will stay with it,  If not I may end up giving tamoxifin a try.  Annette

If you google "goetz cyp2D6", you will find some articles that discuss this topic.

Thanks.  I googled but I'm still not seeing anything new, either.....maybe something will show up in the next couple of weeks.  If not, by then I'll have another appt with my onc, so I can just ask him.  :)
