    I thought that the green mottled around would represent hiding the Easter eggs in the grass and the basket weave quilt design represents the basket that the eggs get put in after they are found. I found the basket weave patten on the internet, printed it out on paper, enlarged it to fit the area and made my own stencil to mark it using a piece of poster board.  This was the first one I used a stencil for the quilting, most other times I would shadow the quilting or use 1/4 inch painters tape to mark diamonds. I since have used a stencil for the border on my grandmother's hankie wall hanging.

    It is brillant.  Do you have a picture of your grandmothers hankie wall hanging.  I would love to see that.

    I sent you another email with the photo of the hanging I gave to my grandmother for her 95th birthday last year that I named 'Aunt Alice's hankies'.

    It was a complete labor of love. When they had the estate sale of my Aunt Alice's farm, I asked my mom to get some hankies for me from the sale. I always remembered my Aunt Alice carrying a hankie tucked under her watch band as well as my grandmother. My Aunt Alice passed away Feb 2009 and I had this half way finished. I planned to give it to my grandmother (Alice's sister-in-law) for her 95th birthday May 20, 2009 and I was able to finish it by then. Grandma loved it and proudly hung it over her bed at the nursing home (the finished size is about 20" square). We lost my grandmother this past February after a long bout of pnumonia. Can you see the hearts in the border that I quilted in? My grandmother's name was Coral and I chose the hankie with the embroidered C for the center, that hankie was given to my great-grandmother Cora in the 30's, and she passed before I was born so I never knew her but Alice kept all the hankies that she and her mother received as gifts. I think I ended up with about 60 hankies, some plain and some printed. I decided to put lace on the edge like some hankies had lace on the edge. That was all hand made, no machine sewing on it at all. and the back is made from a white feedsack that was also purchased at the sale.

    that is one of the most beautiful touching gifts ever.  What a great tribute.  Yes, you can see the hearts very easily and the C on the hankie.

    Some of the hankies were well worn I had to pick which ones I would use and how to cover up any holes. I plan on making a larger one using the same method, hand sewing them onto a white man's handkerchief for the base of each block, making several 'blocks' and sewing them together with a border. My mom has a collection of feed sacks she got at the sale, some still with the writing on it, that I plan to use for the backing like I did for Grandma's. I may use 30's reproduction fabric for the borders instead of a plain fabric but I like the lace edging. It is still in the concept stage.

    I just realized that this picture is without the antique button embellishments!

    Hi ladies, I have been away from this thread for quite a while.  Sheila, the quilts are gorgeous - you have a very special talent.   I am envious of all of your talents with crafts.   My yarn and Knifty kniter are packed away for my upcoming move.   But my plastic canvas flags are still being made.   It will be Memorial Day soon and I take them over to Arlington Cemetery when I visit my husband's crypt and pass them out and chat a bit with others who are visiting kinfolk.   

    Sorry, but I cannot post pictures.   I was the (volunteer) flag lady at the Vet's nursing home and they would be waiting for me at the door.  The flags could be hung on wheelchairs or walkers and they loved it.   Some had me teach them how to make them.

    Nancy, did you change you name here?  Lefty was called the flag lady too and sent me a flag and directions on how to make plastic canvas things.  Made several snowflakes and really enjoy it.

    Wow what gorgouus additions to this thread. The cookies look aswesome..I would like to buy a few too. Know one will know!! Just us, and Lord knows we stick together like glue!! The quilts are gorgeous...wall hangings..the Easter one is outrageous!! Happy crafting, gang.

    I was supposed to start a crochet class(DD paid for it for me) but it was cancelled due to lack of enough interest.!!! I am gonna go on you-tube..they have tutorials there and try to teach myself. A class would be better for me but I am gonna try it. Have a great day!!

    Spar, leftyakanancy changed her name to GramE after the birth of her first grandbaby a couple of months ago.

    Candie, the Easter wall hanging is done by paper-piecing each block on printed paper patterns. each block is 3 inches square to give you an idea of scale. After each block is sewn to each other the paper is pulled out. The paper is a stablizer to prevent the possible bias edges from stretching. I made a large stack of egg blocks and had fun with the layout and colors. There are 2 different patterns for the eggs - one parallel to the sides and one on an angle. It just depended how I laid them out that made it look like they are rolling along. I also though about naming it the 'Easter Egg roll'.

    I hope you have good luck with the crochet tutorials on you-tube. You can also pick up a booklet 'I taught myself to crochet' that has good instructions on how to start. I showed a young lady how to crochet and bought the book to help her when I wasn't around.

    I counted and have 45 snowflakes - 15 of 3 different patterns - washed and ready to stiffen. I will just have to get to Michaels to get more stiffy stuff or try to do it the old fashioned way with cooked cornstarch Undecided. I haven't tried the cornstarch method but other snowflake crocheters swear by it. I have 30 of them sold already to ladies in my local bc support group. They fought over them at the Christmas meeting during the 'dirty santa' exchange. I was at Michaels the other week looking for something else and saw a book of '99 crocheted snowflake patterns'. I think I will use my % off coupon and get it at a discount.

    I am making booboo bunnies for a baby shower. I will take a pic and have my DD post it here over the weekend. That still confuses the heck out of me. The bunnies are really cute. I made them for my DD's baby shower and now my sister wants me to make them for her friend's baby shower.

    lvtoqlt, you are WAY ahead of me!......I barely have 5 snowflakes made!.....LOL......BUT I have had to deal with wet carpets and renovations from both toilets backing up.....GROSS!!...But I am done and have a wonderful new home......Thank You, Jesus!..........

    I went to Michaels yesterday and got the 99 snowflake book, got to the register to find out that the coupon had in the fine print, not to be used on books. So I had to pay full price for it 10.00 instead of 40% off. There are snowflakes from 1 inch across to over 10 inches - almost a doily size.

    Hollyann, the name of the book is '99 snowflakes' by Leisure Arts. I have tried 3 or 4 out of the book, not tried the 3-D ones yet, they are in the back of the book. Some of them are beaded with 4mm beads. I have worked with beads before but not with the snowflakes.

    The front of the book has this description about the book, You'll find a winer wonderland of tris in "99 snowflakes"! Crocheted with thread, the dainty flakes make excellent ornaments and package ties for Christmas! Most of the designs are perfect for beginners because they work up in a flurry, but more advanced crocheters will be challenged, too. After the snowflakes are crocheted, they're stiffened to give them a crisp, fresh look. So even if you haven't seen Heaven's confetti in years, these kisses of frost will bring the magic of falling snow alive and fill every heart with warmth.

    The copywright date is 1998 I don't know how I didn't find it before now! It is 58 pages and had 3 pages in the front with good instructions on how to crochet and some special stitches used in the flakes, and the back has 3 pages with blocking instructions and blocking patterns to help get the snowflakes even when blocking. It is a good comprehensive book for the beginner snowflake crocheter and has some ideas for me to help them last longer (spray with clear acrylic sealer after completly dry to protect from humidity).

    GramE (nancy) I printed off the Michaels coupons and took it with me only to find out that (not in little print) in the list of items excluded was books Frown but I did get 40% off the stiffy stuff.

    This is what I've been working on ... beading hanging pots and painting the patio furniture.  Also, working on some windchimes that I will attach to the inside of an empty picture frame.
