Veggy,,,,you have had it really tough....so vent away.....Come and vent anytime, we are listening and hoping your skin heals fast after the boosts...
-
Thanks somanywomen.
I get tired of venting all the time. Sometimes I feel this is the only place I can vent and people understand what I mean. So many here have gone through this and they know.
I tried taking a wlak with the dog but he's afraid of everything and so he walks backwards. Then I walk backwards. Cars going by must think we are crazy.
-
Veggy, thanks for the backward dog walking post...That is tooooo funny, we sure need a few laughs on here esp., lately!!....I have a great dog (got him at the pound about 7 years ago, it like living with Lassie) but he does not walk backwards....But what he does do to entertain us daily...is he has to have broccoli in his food or he will not eat!!!..We have to shred it and then there absolutely has to be 3 bigger pieces on the counter or he bugs us until we put it there.......I love dogs and just love the fact that you will walk backwards with him....
I forgot to mention that in Florida, we usually do not have a winter, but this year we have had about 3 months of cold (under 60 degree weather) my dog went crazy the first few nights, he jumped in our bed and got between us and shook like crazy, like he was scared...well since then he is sleeping in our bed every night...he takes up about 1/3 of the bed and somehow we have gotten use to it and hardly notice him now.....Jewly
-
Jewly - I tried walking my dog down the road. We live in the coutry and thereis no sidewalks. He was walking backwards, sideways and in circles. Finally he decided enough is enough and slipped out of his collar and leash and made a mad dash for home. Then he would change his mind and come back to me then run off again. I finally caught him and put the collar back on. I got my exercise for the day. If anyone was looking out of their window they got a good laugh. By the way, I was braless. Now can you picture it?
-
Veggy you are just so darned funny when you tell stories. I love the ones about your dog. They are great!!! I am praying that everything works out for you with your thyroid sugery and your liver.
-
Veggy, Mimi...when we open the door to take "Jack" for a walk, sometimes he darts out the door and goes right to his buddy's house down the street...Goes to the front door and I swear if we taught him to ring the doorbell, he would.......My husband took him for his yearly check-up yesterday, and the doctor was amazed at his optimal health (they think he is between 10-12 years old, I think he is about 2 years old!) anyway they said he has the heartbeat of a two year old dog and he is in excellent shape, I swear it is the broccoli!!!......I am going to try to eat a big piece everytime I feed him from now on, I think he's on to something......So girls...."EAT YOUR BROCCOLI"!!!!!!!
-
We had broccoli last night with dinner. It was from our garden, even better.
Harley is here laying at my feet, keeping them warm.Last night he was barking over any little thing. He was so crazy that he would catch his toy bone and throw it in the air. He really comes alive at night like 10 pm.
Today is doctor day. I need the weekend to heal. I am so itchy that the hydrcortizone (spelling?) is barely working. I want to scratch so bad. This too shall pass and be a memory.
Have a good weekend everyone!
-
Veggy, it will pass, but it drives you crazy until it does...Try not to scratch......
I have had great health results in following a healthier diet since dx...I have mentioned above a website.....WHFOODS.ORG.....Has great advice....I used to cook my veggys (no pun) forever, now no more than 5 minutes, and follow this simple way to a healthy saute......You can leave out the onions and just add any veges after broth begins to boil....
How To Healthy Sauté
Start your Healthy Sauté by heating 1 to 2 TBS of broth in a stainless steel skillet over medium heat. Once the broth begins to bubble, add onions and sauté stirring frequently. After the onions have cooked for about 5 minutes, you can then add other ingredients, such as garlic or fresh ginger. Once they have had a chance to cook together for just another minute or two, add other vegetables and cover. This method enables you to have flavorful sautéed vegetables without heating oil. For even richer flavor, toss your sautéed vegetables with a little extra virgin olive oil after removing them from the heat.
-
Cute. You cook your Veggys. I feel like I am cooked, well,on ther left side.

I was wondering for those of you on Tamoxifen... are you having any symptoms like creaking joints? My knees never use to have any scrubbing or creaking but since I have started taking it they started doing this about 2 days ago out of the blue. It sounds really bad. I bought some Glucosamine Chondritin and started it this morning. I am really worried. I don't want to have degenerative joint disease... He** I'm only 45 yrs old!!!
Renee
-
Renee, what does your doc say??...You just started Tamoxifen, right??....That seems fast for such a noticeable se......Maybe you should add more olive oil to your diet......or maybe a lot more olive oil.....
-
Jewly, I haven't called my onc. I have been menopausal for 8 years already. I already didn't have much estrogen anyway... take away or block what I have left and I guess "whaa Laa" scrunch knees? What's the deal with the olive oil? I can't have any on the diet I'm on...
so hopefully the Glucosamine will do the trick for now. After August I can add olive oil, but I would still like to know how it helps.

Sorry to inturde Ladies, Thank you for the beautiful song. Very fitting. Some of you know, Polly and I (June Chemo) went down to meet Michelle in person, unfortunatly she passed just before we arrived.

Debi I'm sorry you didn't get to meet Michelle but really glad you and Polly were able to make the trip and that you got to meet her family and friends.
-
Deborah, I'm sorry that you didn't get to meet Michelle: I'm sure she would have loved that. I know that her family and friends appreciated your visit, though, so I'm glad you made the trip.

Renee...here is a little info on extra virgin olive oil.....
"Olive Oil benefits our health in many ways.Because of the high levels of monounsaturated fats it contains it helps in the control of cholesterol levels and many problems relating to heart disease. What many don't realise is the great benefits Olive Oil can have on our joints. It is recommended that we consume at least a tablespoon of Olive Oil each day to improve our overall health. This serving can also act on our joints to improve mobility and help to ease the presence of arthritis and aching or damaged joints.Look at it like treating a creaking hinge. When we lubricate the problem area everything glides easily and there is no more grating. Everything moves easily and correctly. Now we obviously can't apply externally to improve our joint action but by consuming a great healthy preferably Extra Virgin Olive Oil the benefits to our whole body are enormous."
I have just always heard that fish oils and omega 3's ans olive oil is good for your joints....Hope you find relief!!!...jewly

Renee: I have been on Tamoxifen for three weeks now, and I am definitely feeling pains in my joints and muscles. It totally sucks! I had read somewhere that:
a) if you have pain, that indicates that Tamox is working for you and
b) the pain lasts only a couple of months and goes away.
At this point, if I'm still in this much pain come June, I'm quitting tamoxifen.
Also, I'm forgetting simple things like phone numbers and where I parked the car. I think that the med professionals would say that's just a sign of aging, but that's nonsense because I remembered things just fine until recently.

bonnie I have become a little forgetful of things too... sometimes LOL! I'm only 45 can't blame that on my age. HaHa!!! Anyway, I am very excited, I finally made me an appt to see a plastic surgeon about doing reconstruction for my shrunken boobie... my appt is 3/31/10. I'm a little nervous, but really excited to hear what he has to say. Hope you all had a great Monday!
Renee

I only have 10 boosts to go! After today - 9!!!
Over the weekend I got a burning sensation under my arm... kinda felt like someone was cutting me. The doctor prescribed some cream and some pain killers. He told me that I have a second degree burn under my boob and the skin is starting to break down under my arm.
Today I go for a cat scan. They found a spot on my liver... a hemangioma.
Sunday they got my father to go tot he hospital. I noticed for the past 6 weeks he was turning a yellow color and he looked like he was retaining water. He didn't look right. He hasn't been to a doctor in 50 years. Turns out they think he had a small heart attack. They drained a lot of fluid out of him. By the way... he was admitted to the same hospital I go to for radiation.
-
Oh Veggy, I do hope your dad will be fine...You are so going through enough!!!!
Renee...good luck with plastic surgeon...
Bonnie, I am on arimidex and besides finding more hair in my hairbrush, I haven't noticed any other se's....but when I do do something out of the norm, you best bet, I will be blaming it on the med....like forgetting to clean the house, or forgetting to do the laundry and such.....
-
Getting really excited we are leaving Thursday going to Bristol, TN for the race on Sunday! Praying that it doesn't rain!!! My DH is also sick with sinus infection so say a little prayer for him. This will be the first time we have gone away since my dx and txt. I'm really looking forward to the time away.
Renee
-
Renee...have a great time...It's nice getting away and putting bc in back of your mind for a while..Hope you get some dry weather...and your hubby gets better......
-
Yikes Veggy! You're in the home stretch now, so hang in there. For me, the boosts did not one of the parts that was extra burned, so that was a relief. Hopefully your underarm will not be in the boost field. Did you mention you would be lying on your side for the boosts? That's not now I was. I was in the same position, but the machine did different stuff for the boosts. GOOD LUCK IN THE HOME STRETCH!
OMG your liver too. Hope that turns out to be nothing.

* out of 35 (in boosts now!)
I'll find out about my liver on Friday. I lookid up information on it and it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about.I'm not going to worry about it until I hear something. Anyway, I am too tired to worry.
I'm laying on my side for the boosts. It looks like they added something to the machine for the boosts. They keep drawing circles on me before they give me the boost. Its one long boost about 20-25 seconds and its done.
My father is in the same hospital so I see him for a few minutes while I am there. They are still doing tests on him.
My puppy wants to play now.
-
Hiya coming by to check on everyone. Youre soon done veggy, what a long haul its been (and yes the backwards dog story is funny).lol.. Hoping everyone else is ok. I see somanywomen has become the resident chef here. ( Love your advice). I now have the flu and my backs out. It was fun while it lasted. I was getting out and in our hot tub and feeling great. Now, I havent slept for 2 days cause i cant lay down on the couch, bed, nothing. due to severe pain. I can only sit on a chair and Im sooo tired. And all my meds are doing is making me in la la land, not getting rid of the pain.
Take care everyone
((hugs))
Jules

Hey Jules....sorry about your flu and bad back...and no relief with meds...Hope something works for you soon...Glad you like some of my advice, sometimes I get carried away....My best advice at this time is to visit the WHFoods.org website....Gives list of most nutritious foods, easiest way to prepare to get the most nutrients out of them....Has great easy recipes...and very easy cooking methods to keep the nutrients in food...I have been using the "Healthy Broil" method on my fish, meat and chicken....Basically you heat a stainless steel with stainless steel handle or a cast iron skillet under the broiler on high for 10 minutes then you add seasoned fish (a little lemon, salt & pepper) cook about 5 minutes depending on thickness of fish, for meat and chicken you cook up to 15 minutes...It will tell you on the website in the many many easy recipes how long....NOTE: the only way to clean this skillet immediately (while it is hot) after removing food, add a thin layer of vinegar to skillet and cover so you don't have to smell it and let it set until cleaning....I just love this website so click on everything or go to search and type in a food that you want to cook....I sure hope you get well soon so you can enjoy that hot tub......Jewly

I just noticed this morning that I have a broken blister on my lumpectomy scar. Its the size of a quarter. Five more boosts after today. I think I can do this. I'm almost done!
