I haven't been on here for awhile, but I wanted you all to know I still pray for all of you.  It seems every time a see a doctor they want to biopsy or scan something, but after pet scans, mri's,blood work, ultrasounds, catscans................all is "no evidence of disease".   I'm over cancer, been there done that and I done.  I went through all of that last year and a few weeks ago my 40 yr old sister was in a car accident and died.  She has 3 little girls, the baby just 9 months old. So be praying for them, we may be getting them to raise up.  It will be going to court some time. So it's good I'm over cancer, for I may be having 6 kids to raise soon, no time to be sick.  No one recognizes me anymore. Do you all have that happen?  I have gained so much weight and my hair is still pretty short, with hardly any eyebrows or eyelashes, I look alot different.  I keep telling them that I'm still the same me on the inside.  Oh well.  If I don't get back on here for months again, remember I love you all and you are still in my prayers!

Oh, Grace, I am so sorry to hear that. You are right, you never know when your time is up.

I think I look different just because my hair is curly and short. I think it has all aged me as well though. But, I am happy to be here to look old.

I have been a bit achey today from the Zometa. I am getting it for 3 years. Judy - i am not on the trial, I am just getting it. I have to pay for it myself, but our insurance covers most of it. I am slightly concerned about the broken bone thing, but actually more concerned about mets, so it is all relative, i guess. Jaimie - my Onc said the gastro SE's on the clondrate were bad, could you go off the trail and just get Zometa??

Well, we have snow of all things today. After such a lovely week it is a bit of a shock. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

it is funny...  I have the stomach from hell but am not having trouble with clodronate.  I take it 1st thing with a HUUUUGE glass of water.  Then I go exercise (so I'm upright).  The only time I get sick from it is if I sit or lie down after taking it.  (FWIW~ I don't really sit down again till I'm in the car on the way to work.  I eat breakfast in the car...)

Grace:  It's good to hear from you, and that you are NED!  But I am so sorry to hear about your sister, what sad news that is.  I hope you are doing ok, I know how hard it is to lose a close family member. ((((hugs))))

Kerry:  somehow the snow missed us, just a bit of rain Friday night.  Back when I had my bone density scan, I had wondered if something showed, I could take one of those meds, but my scan was ok, so no meds for me.

Jaimie:  good job with the sale, feels good to clear stuff out and make room for more stuff, lol.

Mosaiced all weekend, no cuts this time Jaimie, lol.  Had daughter Michelle over for dinner tonight.  Now it's 2a.m. and I am wide awake.  Too much sleeping in this weekend.  Only 2 more weeks until Easter break, I can't wait...10 days of sleeping in!!  yay

Glad you have no cuts Judy :)

Okay well the MOM's of multiple sale (I am an outside seller) was a success in my book.  I went with my odysey full and came home with a small rubbermaid tote full of stuff.  So 4 totes emptied a ton of toys gone and I am a happy, happy person.  I have no idea how much $ I made but I don't care it was just a great feeling getting rid of unwanted items.  Next up after vacation I am going to tackle the garage and finish all the painting that needs to be done.

I started taking my sleep disorder medicine and I feel SO, SO much better.  So I guess I will either be going back to see the provider or beggin my oncologist to fill the RX.  I only take a 1/2 a pill but it makes me feel so much more grounded and not exhausted.

I have been doing laundry and running around like crazy trying to get things ready for our trip.  I am sad that it isn't going to be warmer but thrilled just to get away.  I used to spend a whole lot of time in Fl. and since my daughter started school I am not able to go there like I used to :(.  Oh and I can't forget I have to get the easter bunny stuff together and my donated session information together.....  The list just goes on and on.....but I am so grateful to be able to do these things. :)

Oh, we shopped for Easter Goodies the other day and spent $70 on Chocolate! So, I guess the kids are going to be happy campers this year!

I had Chemo the Thursday before Easter last year, so this year I just will be happy I can join in the fun!

Jaimie - happy to hear you got rid of so much stuff. I am with you on just getting rid of things - we have  friends who had a baby last year, and we gave them all of our baby stuff - it is great to see it getting used!  Hope you have a great time in Florida!

Well, the kids are back at school today so I have had a nice relaxing afternoon. Off to pick them up in a minute, it has just started raining.  Thought summer was here last week, it was just teasing us!!

Here I am on the boards again.  Here's my latest story. I developed sudden and unbearable chest pain 2/21. My husband drove me straight to the hospital since we were close and in the car. While I was in the emergency room a CT with contrast was done to check my heart. Well, the doc came in to tell me the heart was looking good....but we found an enlarged node.

Discharged the next day and followed up with my onco who sent me off to a PET scan. Again, the lymph node "lit up". So she sends me to a consult with a thoracic surgeon. The complication? The node in question is nestled comfortably between my aorta and main artery. Hard to biopsy. So now they want to wait and do another PET scan in 4 weeks. The wait is the worst! Has the BC metastasized? Or not? I'm trying to think of ways to occupy my mind because the waiting is unbearable.  Plus I'm getting even more forgetful than usual. I haven't even completed my course of Herceptin yet! I do trust my onco and I know she thinks it's something else, will shrink and I can avoid the surgery for the biopsy, but I feel like it's going to explode in my chest.

Oh, man Nancy, what stress. I cannot believe it would be cancer, you are so early stage,it doesn't sound as though your Onc thinks it is either.

The waiting is going to be the wrost. Hang in there!

Nancy~ Thinking of you and hoping and praying that it isn't anything.

Oh if you can get the emmla.  It actually takes about an hour but is wonderful.  I would just slap it on after my shower and put saran wrap around it :)  I have done the ice but I prefer the emmla and I think it is so much better.  I should be a drug rep for them :)

Well, you have one down, good for you! In a way for me it was a relief just to get started. Hope you are doing OK today, and the itching isn't too bad. How long are your cycles - 2 or 3 weeks?

Nancy:  I'm sorry you're going through this, it would drive me nuts having to wait, too.  I felt that same stressful awareness of my chest while waiting 4 weeks to get my tumor removed last year, I know exactly what you mean.  Hang in there, keep busy, and come talk to us whenever you need to.

Kerry:  Good to know I'm not the only one who ends up buying way too much candy every easter, lol.  I always think I don't have enough, then after the baskets are filled, I have too much leftover, lol.

Rosa:  glad to hear you got through your first chemo.  Which chemo are you getting?  I remember reading about itching being a SE of one of them, don't remember which.  If the itching gets too bothersome call your onc and let him know; there may be something you can take to help it.  Plus your onc should know about any SE's you get anyway.

Jaimie:  you sound like a little bundle of energy....I wish I could get my butt in gear and get something done around here.  Always too tired.

I have 5 more treatments.... 3 week cycles... so all togther 6 treatments... the chemotherapy meds i'm on are: etopiside, taxol, and carboplatin. sorry if i misspell them. :-( I feel normal besides my feet and my hands itching... i woke up last night at like 1:30am to my palms and feet itching... they still itch but i'm trying to block it out.. i've been taking benadryl but it's not helping... ugh...

GCPOMMON-   itching is usually a SE of carboplatin but that's usually after 4-6 treatments....

Rosa:  I'm glad you're feeling good overall except for the itching : (   Hope they can give you something else to try for that since the benadryl isn't helping.

    Oh, Rosa... nausea sucks.

Can we talk ovaries?  My gyn said she'll take out my ovaries.  My breast surgeon thinks she's wacky.  My onc thinks it is overkill but not crazy. I want to have them out... Not having to worry about ovarian cancer would be a *good thing*.  However, I'm sick and tired of procedures.  So for those of you who had your ovaries out (but not a hysterectomy), how bad is it?  Easier or harder than a mastectomy? Kerry? Jaimie?  FWIW~ My ovaries were fried by chemo so I'm already postmenopausal.  So, my symptoms (hot flashes) won't get any worse... Opinions? BTDT?

hang in there Rosa.  I found that the less you know about the side effects, the less you have them.  There is really is credence in the power of the mind.

I'm busier than I've ever been.. My gosh we are the pack rats from Hell.  (at least mr. apple is).  I spend all my time acquiring boxes and packing them.  I could start a viable library.

    Michele - what is BTDT??

Anyhow, for me it was a no-brainer. I am 100% ER+, and it just seems to make sense.  I don't even really know if there is research to back up a survival benefit, but I feel better knowing they are gone. Also covers that "doing everything" need. If you feel strongly that you would like them gone, then I think you are making the right decision.

The surgery is not bad. Firstly, because it is prophylactic, there isn't all the emotion that went with my Mx. Well, you would know that from your own experience. So, that part was much easier.

The surgery actually took longer than my Mx.  I puke from anesthesia, so that was still no fun, but I woke up in very little pain. When I "came to" after my Mx, I thought a dog had me by the chest and was biting me, after my ooph I didn't even get the post-op morphine I was looking forward to. Didn't really even need pain killers at home afterward.

The following week I was a little slow. My MIL came down for the surgery, but only stayed for one day after, so I had the kids on my own pretty much straight away and I could manage quite well. I was in no pain when sitting down, I just had to be a bit careful when I moved. And really only for a week or so. I did get referred pain in my shoulder from the gas, but more discomfort than out and out pain.  The hardest thing I remember was finding clothes to wear that were loose around my middle. You would be OK to go back to work in a couple of days I would think, as long as you were careful.

I had the Surgery end of July, in August we went camping for a week, sleeping on the ground, etc, and I was totally fine.

    No regrets at all.

Anyhow, good luck with your decision. If you want any more info, let me know.

You know it's spring when Judy is back into the garage sales.  Everyone is so busy with cancer & non-cancer stuff.  Just living life.

Judy - You may still be able to get zometa from your oncologist.  It seems like they are a lot more on board with it than a year ago.

Jamie -  Thanks for the compliment. Hair is still very curly.  But, it is hiding the roots very well.  I had it dyed on Dec 23 and it is still ok.  The curls are saving me money!  Laughing

How different we all look from a year ago!!!  The transformations are amazing.
