Super Scared
In 4 weeks I am having an oomph. The last time I woke up from surgery I had stage 3 breast cancer. I am sooo scared of waking up and him telling me there is cancer on my ovaries.
How common is mets to the ovaries.
Let me also say I had a pap today and he said everything felt normal and I have had no issues or pain I am just scared.

I was scared too. I thought, just my luck, they will find cancer there too!
My Family Dr rang me a few days after Surgery to say the path report was clear. It was quite a relief.
But when I went for my follow-up with the Surgeon, she seemed surprised that i would have been concerned about it! I did have some unexpected endometriosis (sp?)....they cure that removing your ovaries!
I have heard of many people here having had an ooph, I haven't heard anyone unexpectedly finding cancer there.
Relax, you will be fine.

I was so scared, I wouldnt even ask. About 3 months later I went for a follow up and surgeon gave me pics (I have no idea why) and I said - "so no cancer right?"
We are scared freaks - we need to build a history of not bad news to build our confidence. Until then we freak.
remember I was completely freaked after my accident last week - I was petrified they would find something when what I should have been worrying about is nearly killing myself on the bike!
-
yeah.. we'll always be scared. I think the chances are super slim tho.
hang in there and have a banana.

I'm pretty sure it is unusual with mets to the ovaries. I would also have thought that with the scans you have had they would have seen if there was anything there. Just remember that you are getting rid of your ovaries because they produce estrogen, not because there is anything worrying about them otherwise!

Everyminute,
I was worried about you that day and did you have any sort of brain injury? Good to see you posting, and looks like you are on the mend. I was going to ask how your collarbone/torn shoulder are doing.
Pure:
I understand your worries. I was sooooo relieved when I had a pelvic/pap smear just prior to surgery and everything was normal there. - Claire
p.s. I did, however, turn a routine exam into an unforgettable experience as had a leg cramp from cycling/not enough electrolytes while getting into position. I had to explain this to a male internist. Fortunately, he is also a cyclist so we traded cramping stories while he did the exam!

Jen.....I had my ooph after chemo and rads....and I don't remember worrying about mets or ovarian cancer...but maybe thats because at time of Dx, ovaries lit up....then had a transvaginal US and it was a cysts....had another one a short time later and ovaries were starting to shrivel up....gyn who did the surgery got a good look around, showed me the pics of all okay....I had my surgery laprascopically and it was relatively compared to bilat and chemo.....for me though, I knew I had BC prior to any surgery.....mammo, then US let to biopsy and Dx that let to MRI and more biopsy....you will be fine....I',m counting on that ,....but being scared is normal....Hugs

Pure,
hugs and prayers to you .all will be ok. I will be praying!
-
Claire - I am ok. Just sore and achey. I guess I am probably getting better each day but it feels worse each day I swear! And the colors of bruises are impressive!!!
-
Jen,
I didn't have any pain in the belly from my ooph at all...I had shoulder pain, imagine that?! The gas they pumped into me to expand my abs for the surgery got caught in there and had to work its way out....it hurt like a bugger for two days but then nothing. After mastectomy, recon, chemo, rads, thyroidectomy...it was a cake walk! Good luck! You'll do great!
-
Jen,
You'll be just fine! I had it done too and no problems and easy recovery (had it done at the same time as my prophylactic mastectomy on the good side). Like Kerry, all they found was a bit of unexpected endometriosis!
Good luck!

Jen,
I have the same thoughts every now and then. I actually cried the other night to my husband about the whole ooph thing. I made a big scenario in my head that my gyn found BC mets to my ovaries. Im actually scared now, and have been not in a good place for a couple of days.
Thank god for the left over Ativan I found in my medicine cabinet.
