Diane
we have a great Mexican restaurant in Myrtle Beach. It's called Abuelo's... I LOVE it!!
Brenda,
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out later. I'm in a rush, so this is gonna be a drive by... I have to run some errands. Then I'm going grocery shopping with my MIL... we usually go on Thursday.
Have a great Thursday!! It's still very cool here, but I hear it may warm up tomorrow... can't wait for SPRING!!!

I'm right with you all on Mexican food, although I really miss the NM style Mexican food we had in Colorado. It's very different here in California.
Well, I did another 11,315 steps this a.m. -- 5.66 miles! Once again, it was an effort to push myself, but I know in just a few weeks it will be even harder to get out in the heat. Kari, I think you're right about the puffiness being much worse when it turns hot, as it has this week.
I have a question for those of you who also run. I try to intersperce some jogging in with my walking. I usually do 3 or 4 sprints of about 1/2 mile each, hoping to build up to being able to run longer, but I never seem to get beyond 1/2 mile. But I've been noticing recently that when I stop, I seem to have a fleeting moment of near-dizziness -- as if I might get dizzy, but that doesn't actually happen. Hard to explain, but it happens every time I do those running spurts. It doesn't last long -- like just a fraction of a second or one heart beat -- but it concerns me about pushing myself to run more. Does that sound normal to you? I drink water before I leave the house and while I'm out there, so I don't think it's dehydration, and I don't ever get winded @ 1/2 mile -- I just feel the need to stop, and then I get that weird feeling for a moment.
Penny, good to hear from you and to know that you're happily busy with life. I'm impressed that you're into kick boxing!
Gotta run... Have a great Thursday everyone... Have a great time in San Diego, Diane. And Kari, enjoy Portland and your MIL's celebration! Deanna

Harley I used to live in Myrtle Beach! Of course I was only 4 years old. My dad was in the military and was stationed there.
Deanna good job today! I am going walking today, but the allergies are bad this week, so I walk and blow my nose. Well I should go so I can watch UNLV play this afternoon. DH is coming home early to watch. I hope everyone's favorite basketball team wins. diane

I get exhausted just reading the exercise you lot are up to.
I'm just Wii Fit stepping away all the time, about 9,000 steps (1 hour) but I guess it's fairly low impact. When I started doing the hour it was adding up to 270 calories but since I've lost weight the calories have dropped to about 250 - and yet even after all this time (almost 8 months) I still find in hard to control my eating - you'd think that by now I would have become use to small amounts and not get so hungry!!
Sweet dreams!!

Diane--Fascia is the sheath of tissue that surrounds muscle (if I'm wrong, someone correct me...). One time I had a weird knee problem and physical therapy included a fascia release. The overly simplistic explanation that I took away was that the fascia sometimes gets constricted, or "wrinkled," or somehow not in its right form, and a release is necessary. My workout was one of the workouts on the classical stretch/strengthening dvd, which I use regularly. I enjoy it and it has helped me tremendously.
Deanna--I'm a runner only in my dreams, so I can't really help you. I hope this problem resolves for you.
Walked about 35 minutes today--outdoors, after an unexpected brightening and warming of the day. I was thrilled!
-
Deanna, I think it's great you're running half mile. I'm just happy to walk really fast at the moment.
2 mile walk today, ~30 minutes! I could this as good, I fit it in with work!
-
Brenda, that DVD sounds really good, especially if it's helped you. What's the name of it? (You probably told us several pages ago, but I never wrote it down.)
Ainm, if you're doing 9,000 steps in an hour, that sounds like it's equivalent to walking 4.5 miles -- unless WI-FI steps are different (?) from pedometer measured steps, which are 2,000 to a mile. And doing that many in an hour is an extremely peppy pace. It takes me almost 1.5 hrs. to do 5 miles.
I wanted to tell you all that I had an email from Meg (Ivorymom) today. After much thought, she's decided to do a lumpectomy, which is now scheduled for next Friday. She said she needed a break from BCO, but she sounded really good. I will, of course, let her know that we miss her here, and that you were asking about her, Penny. Deanna
-
Deanna,
Thanks for the update on Ivorymom. Please let her know I said HELLO... Glad she's doing good.
Well, it's nice and WARM here today!! Before long, it'll be TOO HOT! LOL Guess I'm NEVER happy!!!I went for a run today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Harley -
Agree with Harley, thanks for the update from Meg.
I also agree, WARM IN NC!! SUNNY!! Gosh, this Spring will be sweet after such a cold winter! Snow too!
I walked 4 miles! I feel like the California girls with nice warm weather and loooooooong walks!!!
-
Evening Ladies!!
Deanna I would imagine the Wii Fit steps are different - there is no stride to them they are just on and off the Wii Fit Balance board which isn't that high - I do try and do it at a good fast pace to get my heart rate up but if you go too fast Wii Fit will not log the steps so my count is never totally accurate. I guess it would be considered a low impact exercise. Also can you please pass on a big hello to Meg from me too??
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.
-
Thanks Deanna for the update on Meg. I can understand her needing a break.
Good to hear everyone is having nice weather. We woke up to snow this morning, but of course Calgary being Calgary, you have to wait an hour and see what the weather does. It is very sunny now and the temp should be around 14 C tomorrow.
Was going to get out for a walk tonight, but decided to bath the dog, there is a workout and a half! He is a big boy, lab/golden retriever cross and the biggest diva you could ever meet. Took two of us just to get him into the bathroom! After all was done, had to scrub the shower, I am done for the night. Hubby has gone to get us something to eat, Edo Japan, no rice all veggies and chicken, then we are going to snuggle down and watch a movie. Rest tonight for tomorrow we scrub the house down, have to have it clean for our friend who stays here with the dog while we are gone. Oh did I mention we leave in 8 days! Not excited at all, nope not me. Gonna pull out my suitcase tomorrow too! Found two new bathing suits yesterday, got colors this time, don't want to be mistook for a killer whale on the beach. So anyway will join you all soon in the nice weather category.

Lab bath = exercise!
I do not doubt it, PK!!! giggles.
-
P did I miss something? Where are you going that you need a bathing suit?
Springtime it was beautiful here (las vegas) today also. I did not walk or anything, too much going on.
I am off to San Diego again to see my son. I know it is rough, but someone has to do it.
The weather is supposed to be wonderful!!!
I'll post again on Sunday night.
Enjoy your weekend!!!

Deanna--Thanks for the update on Meg. I will continue to hold her in my thoughts. At various times I have taken breaks from BCO, so I understand that decision.
The name of the dvd I suggested is "The Complete Season Four--Classical Stretch/ The Esmonde Technique." It is aired initially on PBS then made available on the classicalstretch.com website. The Season Four dvd has 26 workouts of about 25-27 minutes each, and you can see the focus of each workout on the website listing for the dvd. There are some Classical Stretch dvd's on Amazon, but some are the older ones and were pricey the last time I checked. If memory serves, the current season being aired on PBS is Season Six, which I was following regularly when I got up at "dark thirty." I haven't done that for a while but hope to return to that schedule if I ever get my shoulder blade "issue" resolved.
Yesterday was gorgeous, and I had about 25 minutes of walking outside and stretching. It was brief but I did it in the midst of a busy day, and I was calmer & more focused afterward. Today I am heading outside for another gorgeous day to pull some weeds and do a little bit of yard work, being very careful not to exacerbate my shoulder.
pk, Enjoy the anticipation of vacation!

Diane, we are going to Kona Hawaii for spring break. Need to find some warm weather!
Thanks for the name of the DVD Brenda, may have to find that. Found after our Kenpo (kickboxing) DVD, that my muscles started screaming again, plus now I do have specific joints that are sore, one being the distal phalangeal joint of my ring finger, of all places to hurt! I really hope my doc tells me this is all in my head and then it will go away. My feet really want to curl up today too. That is why I am thinking stretching might help.
Anyway, got lots to do today so should get at it. Hope you all have a great day. Wishing you all the sunshine that we appear to be getting today!
-
I too understand the need to take breaks from bco... sometimes it just gets to be too much for me, and I have to take a break. I'll be keeping Meg in my thoughts and prayers. Sending her BIG HUGS!
I may not get much exercise in the next couple of days... we are meeting some friends, my dh's co-workers, from the U.S. Navy Band. He has been retired now for 2 years, and they are in town, so we are going to hook up with them. Tomorrow, the plan is to meet another friend at the beach, if it's warm enough...
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Got an MTV Power Yoga DVD from the library to try and change things up. Kicked my you know what. I'm finding the upper body muscle strength still an issue after the multiple surgeries despite the continued weight lifting. Those side plank poses are a killer. Found a pilates DVD for recuperating from breast cancer, think I'll give it a try. I love our local library!
-
Please tell Meg that I said Hi too, and I'm thinking about her.
-
Did 30 minutes on the elliptical torture machine... now I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day!!
Have a wonderful week!!
Harley
-
It was so nice this weekend! I did 2 miles yesterday and over 4.5 miles of walking today, and did all the weight machines at the gym!!! Yay!!!
Spring is good!! I am so glad winter is over. There may be a few cold days - but Spring is here! Yay!
-
P Hawaii sounds great!!! Wish it were me. I hope you have a great time!!!
San Diego was wonderful. Walked 4 miles on the bay this morning, and loved it. i have one more week of work, and then I have my spring break, looking forward to it.
My next surgery is scheduled for May 10th, the day after my birthday. I just want this all over and done with.
Got to go, long drive and I am tired.
I'll post tomorrow. Enjoy your Monday everyone.

I'm BACK!! Hi girlies!! I read everyone's posts, but forgot most of what I read!haha Still getting over this head cold. Boy, driving over the mountain passes the ear/head pressure was a killer! BUT, Portland was gorgeous and fun. We walked and shopped, spent way too much money, but was worth it. My MIL's 80th birthday party was a lot of fun! Weather turned rainy for the drive home, but it was nice and warm at home. Have today off, lots to do to prepare for the work week. DH is mowing the lawn, then he has to skeedaddle out of town.
Deanna, I get that dizzy thing every so often and I've tried a few running jaunts during some walks. I'm thinking the blood pressure changes so fast when you stop, and it takes a minute to adjust.
Brenda, I saw that classical stretch show down in the Bay Area one time and I was really sore afterward! They don't offer it on our PBS station up here so I will have to look into the dvd online.
Penny, I bought a new swimsuit too for our trip!! I can't wait for your trip, I'm really excited for you!!
Ok, off to accomplish something....have a GREAT day!
-
Good morning, and happy Monday to everyone! Kari, glad you had such a nice trip! (Loved your photos on Facebook, btw.)
I don't know why I let it happen, but I didn't walk Friday, Saturday or Sunday. But Saturday night, I also hurt my back moving a chair. I'd just jumped up after sitting in the same position for 2 hours, picked it up and was carrying it into another room, and all of a sudden, a searing pain shot across my entire lower back! I'm guessing my muscles had been cramped from sitting, so that just moving too quickly to a lifting position strained them. I'm hoping I can walk at least a little today, to try to stretch them out. I have to go to UCLA on Thursday, and right now even the thought of that 3-hour drive sounds painful.
Oh, I asked a runner friend about that momentary lightheadedness I've been concerned about, and she said that it's our body adjusting to the sudden change in momentum because everything has been moving forward at a good pace, and when we stop, it takes our bodies a split second to readjust. That explanation somehow sounds less ominous than dropping blood pressure (which I'd also wondered about), Kari, so I'm hoping she's right. She suggested trying to make the transition from running to walking less abrupt, so I'm going to try that (when I can run again), and see if it makes a difference.
I will relay all of your thoughts & good wishes to Meg today. Penny, how many more days until you head for Kona? Deanna
-
Oh Deanna! Our walking Queen!!! I hope your back is okay and does not take too long to feel better again...
I am about to go walking! Going to go and grab my sneakers, etc. Sunny AGAIN!!! Thank you!!! I love the sun, this winter was so long and cold and snowy, I am happy spring is here. I must sound like a broken record!!!
-
Ok everyone, it has been all day since someone has posted--we need motivation!! That being said, I did nothing today. I did go and eat Mexican food, which was good. I also helped to clean a stand for our track meet this weekend.
The weather is great here and I am ready for spring break next week.
Springtime I hope your walk was good!
Deanna I hope you had a good walk today and good luck at UCLA this week, you are in my thoughts.
Happy Monday night!!

Hi, girls (or girlies, as Kari would say!) ... I took another day off from walking yesterday, but am happy to report that I just finished 5.63 miles today. Even though my back was still bothering me, once I got out there, it didn't hurt at all. I think it's worse sitting.
Are you doing anything special during your spring break, Diane?
Glad the weather is warming up for you, Spring, and for everyone else who had to put up with a long, hard, cold winter. Deanna
-
2 miles yesterday, 2 miles today, even though work is kooky!!!
I count this as a success.
Later, I am going back to the gym for more of those machines. My muscles hurt, but it felt so good. Hard to describe!!!
-
I hope to go get my shape up sneakers tonight on the way home from work with 30% off and I am selling my treadmill I dont use it I HATE treadmills they bore me to death so it will pay for the shoes and hopefully going to start with Bella I have been sick and depressed so thoought this would help allot after I start doing it now that the time has changed ....glad to join motaviation ...happy spring we had a winter weekend ha
-
enjoylife I also hate the treadmill. I have the shape-up sneakers and I feel tall. I love to walk, mostly around my block. I am starting to train for the 3-day for a cure and I think I'll walk the strip next week, I'll play tourist. diane

Hi, gals... Just reporting in... 5.4 miles for me today, but I won't be able to do this kind of walking or check in for the next 3 days, 'cause I'll be in LA. My sister is attending a medical conference there, so I'm going to have a couple of appts. @ UCLA on Thursday, do some antiquing and other shopping on Friday, and bring her back out here for a few days on Saturday.
Welcome, enjoylife! Sorry you've been sick and depressed. Anything we can do to help? We've all had our ups & downs with post tx depressed moods.
Have a good rest of the week, everyone. And where are Joy and Ali these days??? Deanna
