Hello and happy Monday to everyone! I didn't walk on Saturday, but did 3.15 miles yesterday (plus 2+ hrs. of strolling at an outdoor arts festival), and 4.75 miles this a.m.
Sorry it's still so cold wherever you are, kmmd. I wish I could send you some of our heat!
Kari, how's your back doing? Deanna
-
Hi girlies!!
Brenda, I like your 15 minute rule and how it usually leads to more! And if it doesn't, then you've done 15 minutes!! My soon to be married DD ordered me a J. Crew dress, navy - sleeveless, its comfy and cute! And I have some chunky earrings and bracelet and cute silver heels to go with!! Getting my hair professionally done next week, I haven't touched it since it started growing back 15 months ago! My bangs are sooooo long!!
DH and I walked 2.1 miles yesterday morning. I did some yoga on Saturday and my back was really bothering me, it hurt yesterday, but I had also swept, mopped, laundry, shopped, then went and helped a coworker/friend color her hair all afternoon, it was out of a comedy, ended up screwing up 2 times before the 3rd time worked, but it was hours of me standing on hard tile, which usually does me in! But it was so strange...it didn't really hurt last night or this a.m.!! Ok I can't figure my back out. Maybe I was sore from the chiro. Now I've caught a slight cold, I haven't had a cold in 3 years!!
Gotta get back to work, so shout outs to all!! Have a great afternoon!
-
Kari, hope your back improves soon. Sorry about the cold. Someone can look at me now and I"ll pick up their virus, I never used to be that way, like you no colds for years, this winter was very different.
Changed my mind, did aerobics and then pilates instead. I may have to be carried back up the stairs.
-
I did 20 minutes on the elliptical torture machine. It was still very cool outside today, so I opted for indoor exercise.
Hope you are all feelin' fine! Keep movin'

I just finished my 30 minute classical stretch/strengthening workout, which is a bit of a challenge in light of ongoing shoulder blade pain. I am awaiting word from my internist about the latest efforts to get my insurance co to approve an MRI, and I will be seeing my med onc this Friday. I have been dealing with daily pain since February 4th! YIKES!
kmmd, Glad to hear from you. Aerobics +pilates? Wow! I'm impressed!
Harley, What schools are in your area? And what field are you considering at this point? I remember Deanna giving some input about her conversation with a life coach; have you considered meeting with one? I realize career counseling can be helpful (haven't you tried that or a "version" of that already?); maybe, taking a look at the big picture of your life would help you to find more direction (that is, if you need it...).
Diane--I get my chocolate fix every day. Much of the time that involves a cranberry trail mix that has those wonderful little chocolate morsels mixed inside. Sometimes just a few mouthfuls will do it for me.
Deanna--Have you found anything else beside walking that you like? Your numbers are inspiring.
Kari--Backs are such tricky parts of our anatomy! I hope you will continue to be pain free. Let us know how your new hair style looks. I got my first real cut a few weeks ago (last chemo was last May) and I am still working with adjusting. I also am still being patient with my eyebrows, which are pretty sparse.

The weather is beautiful!
I walked 5 miles today. It feels wonderful to have some spring weather (sorry Harley
). I won't get to walk tomorrow, my daughter has a track meet. I love watching her pole vault. My whole family, excluding me, is very athletic and coordinated. I walk, but I do it well.
Brenda I just discovered the dark chocolate M & M's--too good for words.
Kari the dress sounds pretty. That dress and a new hairdo, you'll knock your DH's socks off.
Enjoy your Monday all!!

Brenda, there was chocolate at the Yoga retreat!!! LOL. Just the place for you!!!
I walked 2 miles on Sunday AND today! No Yoga though. But walking at least. work is KOOKy. oiy.
-
Brenda,
I may have mentioned it here, but maybe not... I want to go back to school, because I want to be a 'social worker', counseling women when they are newly dx'd... maybe help them cut thru the red tape with their insurance company, and that sort of thing. I'll need to take alot of psychology courses, but I like psychology. I would probably go to the community college in my area. I can't afford to go back to college, so I'm hoping I can get a scholarship.
I sell Avon and they sponsor scholarships, and I volunteer thru American Cancer Society, Reach to Recovery, and I'm hoping to hear from them about any scholarships they might sponsor.

Hi All,
Harley congrats on your 3 yr mark.
Congrats to all who are working out regularly. I haven't been, bad me. Couldn't exercise on the weekend because I was going for bloodwork yesterday, they don't want me exercising 3 days prior to blood work. Had a massage last night so no exercise then either. Tonight is good and will do something.
Kari, will you post a pic after you get all dolled up?
MIL is doing great. I think she will now as long as no one makes her understand fully her prognosis. As long as she thinks it is all said and done, over, she will live out to her expected life span, (I hope) FIL on the other hand is doing his research and I think the light bulb is getting brighter. Once they get the path report from surgery, I think he will really understand. He will need help then, for now , I just sit back and answer the questions they fire off at me. Ca really sucks!
We are having nice weather here right now, but everyone keeps saying it won't last after tomorrow, must catch the news and find out what is on the horizon.
Harley , I hope you follow your dream.
Have a great day all!
p
ps do they make white chocolate m&m's?

Good morning sunshine cuties!!
Well this cold is knocking me down, I have been so fortunate not to have been sick in so long. But the timing is BAD! We leave tomorrow after work and start heading north. Going to be in the 70's all week here and now we head to the great northwest, where its cold! UGH! I will post some pics and especially from the wedding next month!!
Brenda, I sure hope you find some answers soon for your shoulder pain, I feel so bad for you. Hopefully, the stretching doesn't bother it too much! I know when I stretch, my low back feels it big time, but I keep trying cause all the docs keep telling me how tight it is. Sigh...hugs to you
kmmd, so did you make it up the stairs by yourself after all? LOL
Penny, still thinking of your MIL and FIL and all of you during this nightmare. I will never forget how I felt when my surgeon called with the bad news...SIGH Big hugs
Harley, how wonderful the direction you want to go with your career! Keep us posted. You are inspiring!!
Spring, no matter how KOOKy work gets, you still find 'you' time and walk! LOVE IT!! my hero
Diane, 5 miles! Wow you and Deanna could keep up with one another...I'd be trailing behind or sitting on the sidelines cheering you on after a couple miles! haha
Quote for today (Harley inspired this one):
"If we all tired to make other people's paths easy, our own feet would have a smooth even place to walk on."

Thanks for the happy cancerversary wishes!
Yes, cancer sucks and I am so sorry about your MIL. I'm thinking that you will be a big help to your FIL when he the full impact of her dx hits him.Brenda,
Hope you get some answers about your shoulder pain, and hope the problem can be easily resolved.
Kari
Hope you are feeling better soon. COLDS suck! Sorry you are having to travel to an even colder region, just when things were starting to warm up.
Thanks!! I hope I'll be able to go back to school, and I will do what I can to get the funding for my dream. But, I have decided that if it's meant to be, it will happen.
As one of my neighbors told me when I told her about the bc dx and my decisions that I was making three years ago, related to my treatment. She said:
You plan for the worst, and hope for the best...
Hugs to all...
Harley
I'm going to try to maybe do some yoga today... maybe I'll pull out my old yoga mat from the closet.
I have a headache today. Maybe it's the weather - I think it's kind of windy, and maybe there is something brewing on the weather front.
-
Harley, great on 3 years and good for you about helping others just dx'd.
You go girl!
It is freezing here again today! When will this END??
I think I may do the eliptical, not sure I can get myself out in the freezing!!!
5 miles! WOW!!!
-
Good morning, all ~ I walked 4.68 miles this morning, and yes, Brenda, I know I must sound a bit like a broken record! I know I have to find something else to do, but I haven't yet. It's also hot here today, with 85 predicted for the high. I know that probably sounds annoyingly idyllic to some of you, but trust me, your weather will be much nicer than our summer heat very soon. Right, Diane?!
Kari, have a great trip! Also, are you using zinc lozenges? They seem to help me shake a cold quicker. And those Emergen-C packets are good, too.
While I was walking today, I ran into a neighbor who told me her Mom is a 7 year bc survivor with 9 positive nodes. She's also totally into diet ("eating the earth") and exercise and doing great.
I have got to start working on taxes today. (Yuk!) It took me a week just to catch up on the filing I didn't get around to due to chemo brain, and now I have to start pulling some numbers together. And our wonderful CPA retired (due to a cancer dx), so I'm using a new one who doesn't seem to have much humor or empathy for my situation. Deanna
-
Spring,
Thanks. I am a volunteer for American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery. They connect newly dx'd women with volunteers who are also bc survivors. I call them, and answer any questions they may have, and help encourage them and give them hope. Sometimes I meet them for lunch. I am not getting very many referrals, though. So, I've been thinking that it will be nice to have rewarding work and actually get paid for it!! I don't mind volunteering, but it's very disheartening because I don't feel that I'm making a difference.
yes, it IS very COLD here today!! I hear it may warm up some on Friday... can't wait!
I can't wait to start walking or running longer distances... 5 miles would be great!!
Deanna,
Isn't it inspiring when you meet long term bc survivors. My primary care dr.'s wife is a 25 year bc survivor!! It really gives me inspiration when I hear about these women; I hold onto the hope that I will be there, too, one day!
Harley
-
Deanna, you said it!
-
Harley, bet you anything you make more of a difference then you give yourself credit for.
Kari, hope you feel better soon. I got up the stairs, but sure didn't have the energy to get the laundry basket and the laundry done!
pk, its ok. The more your body gets used to exercise, the less it takes to get back into it again. So, all that work you did, it will pay off when you get over this recent hump. Just try to get 10 min in sometime the remainder of this week. Next week try 10 min a few times. You'll be back into it before you know it.
Yahooo, sunshine today and the snow is gone. Went for a walk outside without my winter coat. DH and I had a blast. Will soak it up while it lasts. 'Cause around here that won't be for long!
-
Just checking in. I can't wait to go home!! One more hour...and counting...Just want to SLEEP!! I sound like a friggin FROG!! Deanna, yes, I've been downing all the C and zinc and eating oranges. Went to the Farmer's Market at lunch in front of Whole Foods and bought a couple more oranges and then sat in front of Whole Foods and ate half my lunch in the sun. Didn't want to leave!!
back to work, BIG HELLO to all!
-
Just popping in to say hello and wish you all a Happy Saint Patrick's Day for tomorrow!!!
Harley - congrtulations on your 3 year landmark!! You are such an example and inspiration to the likes of me.
Sleep well everyone - cold night here but tomorrow is suppose to be dry which will be great for all the people involved in parades etc!!!
-
kmmd,
Thanks! I am so glad that I found this site! All the women here really encourage me!!
Kari
Hope you feel better soon. Sending HUGS your way!!
Ainm,
Thanks! It's really encouraging to me, to talk to women from ALL OVER THE WORLD!!
You will reach this point, the three year mark before you know it. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY TO YOU, TOO, MY FRIEND!!
Hugs to all of you!! Remember to try to keep moving!
Harley .... on St Patrick's Day, EVERYONE is Irish! Just call me... McHarley!
-
Dragged my slow-motion self home today and went directly to a 30 minute classical stretch & strengthening workout. Perhaps I will now have enough energy to finish this, eat, and get ready for bed. I need some sleep!
Diane & Deanna--I'm with Kari: I'd have to cheer you two from the sidelines. I think I can walk about 2 miles before my knees go wonky on me. Deanna--Nah, you don't sound like a broken record. I was just thinking about what you said previously about finding a way to be more flexible. Diane, you made me laugh with your comment about walking well!
Spring, Maybe I need to google "Chocoloate" + "Movement" + "Cancer Survivor" retreats! I looked online the other day for something inspiring and not in the northern most reaches of the US but was not successful.
Harley, I am sorry my comments were not more specific. I actually remembered your earlier posting about what you hoped to do career-wise, and I was wondering about social work vs. psychology vs. counseling vs. whatever other possibilities are out there. As a Reach to Recovery volunteer, are you allowed to place cards in MDs' waiting rooms so that others can just pick them up? When I had my first Reach volunteer all those years ago, my surgeon recommended the program. I later discovered that so many MDs just don't even think about it. I will stay hopeful for you that you will find some scholarship money somewhere.
pk, Labs--had my share and then some. I hope you will get info that you need to know what is going on in your body and that you will be able to get back on track soon with exercise. I am thinking of you!
Kari--Thanks for your hope that I will get better soon! I found out today that my internist doesn't wan to do battle with my insurance company, and he would rather pass that little task onto my oncologist or possibly an orthopedist. I will check with my med onc first. (Of course, he's the one with the nurse that ALWAYS complains about my insurance co....)
kmmd--Hooray for you! Outdoors with no coat and for an invigorating walk. You must have felt positively giddy!
Ainm--Happy St. Patrick's Day back to ya! Will you be getting out a little?
To all others, lurkers included, move a little bit, stretch a little bit, and try to smile while you are doing it!
-
Brenda,
Thanks for clarifying... I had originally wanted to do some 'counseling', but the counselor at the college told me that in order to call yourself a 'counselor', you must have a MASTERS DEGREE... I doubt that I would make it that far....
Good night, everyone!!!
Happy St. Patricks Day!
Harley
-
Happy St Paddy's day you lovelies!!!
I didn't exercise or Yoga yesterday, then at out Mexican!!!!
Today is Yoga, and I better get my butt walking!!!
-
Happy St. Patricks Day, everyone!
I just did 11,089 steps (YaY!)... 5.5 miles! And, no, I'm not trying to compete with Diane! Walking was just really hard for me today for some reason (everything hurts and my hands feel really puffy), so I kept choosing interesting streets I hadn't been down in awhile, and just kept plugging. I also wore shorts for the first time this year. It felt good, but, boy, are my legs pale and dry, no doubt due to the lack of estrogen. Will have to get working on that area now that it's suddenly way too hot for sweat pants.
Have a great day, everyone. Deanna
-
It didn't rain on the parade - Waahoo!!!
Just watching the news reports of St Patrick's Day celebrations around the world - Oh I'm so proud to be Irish!!!
Hope you all had a good day!!
-
Happy St. Patrick's Day All! And Especially To You Ainm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spring, laughed at your no walking, no yoga but ate out Mexican! Mexican is my weakness!!
Brenda, hope your docs get it all sorted out with your ins. co.
Deanna, you could be puffy and struggling since the weather turned so warm??
Big hello to all, we are headed north in a bit for Portland, OR to celebrate my MIL's 80th birthday. We'll be back late Sunday, so I will miss you! Oh, and I feel better than yesterday, even managed only 25 jumping jacks and stretches before work. No sneezing but coughing today, sounding like a baby frog today!!
-
Ainm
YAY! Parades are so fun!
Yes, I LOVE Mexican food, too!
Kari
Hope you are feeling better soon.
I did 20 minutes on the elliptical. I've been feeling guilty for skipping exercise a couple of days.
It is supposed to warm up by Friday... I can't wait!!
Harley
-
Quickie: I managed 30 minutes of a fascia release workout after work today. I wish it had given me more energy, but I am hopeful that other benefits have kicked in.
Kari, I hope you have a great getaway!
Harley, Have you checked out NASW's website: www.beasocialworker.org ?
-
2 mile walk and 90 minute Yoga class! Yay!!! And I was hungry, felt better than being over stuffed and sluggish (ala last night!)
Good for you Deanna!! over 10K steps!!!!
-
Deana I only walked 4 miles today--it got hot! The weather was so beautiful and people kept stopping me to talk. I also wore shorts, long baggy ones to cover the white, white skin, and still got hot.
Ainm Happy St. Patrick's Day, although it is over by the time you get this. I so had to find a shirt with some green on it so the kiddos would not pinch me.
Springtime good for you with your walk and Yoga!! You go Girl!!
Brenda what is a fascia release? I must have missed something somewhere.
Harley, nothing beats good mexican food, unless it is good cajun food.
Kari, enjoy Portland. I am off to San Diego again to see my son play some ball. Any excuse for San Diego.
Off to watch American Idol--Happy Thursday everyone.

Hi All,
Wow, so much I could comment on with all of you with trips, St.Paddies Day, continued exercising, food, I love food! But big yucks to those who have health issues ie colds, back aches, muscle aches etc. Oh and dry skin- almost makes you want to go back on to estrogen, doesn't it? But no, we will stay the course and cream down.
Lots going on here, trying to get ready for Kona (yeah), nieces bday, BIL bday, DS's 18th bday, bathroom renos, MIL bc issues (she is doing extremely well, ignorance is bliss) house cleaning (dear dog is having a bad case of shedding, dust or doggy bunnies everywhere!) and all that other daily stuff that just keeps coming at you. All is good but keeps one busy.
Exercised last night, did the kick boxing, very modified, did not go hard at all but did work up a sweat. Just watching what my muscles will do over the next few days. Tonight will just take the doggie for a long walk, no other exercise. Really hate this, where is my magic pill to take to make it all go away!
Has anyone heard from Meg lately? Just wondering how she is doing. Joy hasn't checked in either lately.
Well day off today and have lots to do, so will get at it. Hope everyone has a great day!
