Invasive Micropapillary Cancer
Has anyone been diagnosed with invasive micropapillary cancer of the breast?
I was told it is rare - on 2-3% of cancers.
It has invaded lymph nodes extensively.
I am sooooo scared. I'm 39 and have a 4 year old.

Hi. Yes. it's rare variant of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, but fortunately more frequently is ER positive and relatively often HER-2 positive as well. Micrpapillary cancer resembles papillary cancer, but in opposite to IPC it's lack of fibrovascular border and reversed polarity (Na+ ions in cancer cells, K+ ions are out of cells), so it tends metastasizes to regional lymph nodes quite quickly and often form blockage in lymphatic vessels. But, it doesn't tends to distant metastases more often than IDC (percentages of DM are very similar). However, it's diagnosed usually at higher stage than other form of Ca, especially stage III. Prognosis is similar to IDC when matched stage for stage. But, as I said earlier, it's more often ER-positive, as well as HER-2 overexpressed, and grade 2 or 3 than IDC. Actually, IMPC very rarely shows basal-like molecular profile, even if it's triple negative. Usually, it has distinct profile, which a little resembled Luminal B profile of IDC and ILC, but it shouldn't be classified as "ordinary LumB".

hi there. I was diagnosed with micropapillary carcinoma in Nov 2015, during my pregnancy. I'm 33, it was stage 3a, 8/9 lymphnodes. I'm nearing the end of my chemo. How are you doing? It's hard to find anyone with this type of cancer
