Hello wonderful people of this Board,

Today is my first day home post lumpectomy. I have been reading the board ever since I was diagnosed about 2 months ago. I am so grateful for all of the information and encouragement. As I wait for the pathology report I want to make myself visible to all of you.

It was here that I learned how common a re-excision is. My bs has said that I have a 50% chance of needing further surgery as there are 2 areas (2cm she calls them "not small") of dcis. I am hopeful that this surgery is all I need, but I want to be realistic also.

I had 2 wires placed before the surgery at 7:30am and this was the hardest part. Everyone said it wasn't as difficult as the stereotactic biopsy and they were right. I took .75 of Lorazapam and this helped immensely. I was in surgery by 9:30am. I had general anesthesia and felt fine waking up at about 12:30pm. There doesn't seem to be that much tissue missing frommy by breast I am larger, a D cup), perhaps due to swelling. Or maybe I was preparing for the worst. My incision appears to be held together with glue, no dressing, perhaps dermabond but nothing was said in the post-op instuctions.

Now, I am waiting for the path report from this surgery, they said 5-10 days. If I get the green light for radiation that will be a cause for celebration. Who thought that would be something to look forward to a few months ago?

    Welcome, former lurker! (LOL)

Glad to hear you've made it through the lumpectomy in good shape and good spirits!  Best wishes for a post-path report, greenlight-the-rads celebration.  I agree, who woulda ever thunk such a thing?????

    Jealous about your glue, BTW.

Congrats that you are home and are feeling fine!!!!    YAY!!!! I will pray that you will only have to do this once....love the glue and surprised that sweatyspice you did not have glue, stitches perhaps?  I know they stitched me from the inside and I had the glue as well.....I thought removing the glue was the hardest part and I found out after about 2 weeks when the instructions said it was okay to remove, I found Olive oil to be best for me and I left it on overnight and it washed off really good in the shower the next morning......Keep us posted as to how you are feeling and more importantly the results when you get them back.......praying all good news only!

    June2268 -

I had absorbable stitches, but I had a big surgery so maybe glue wouldn't work - don't know, and it's waaay too late to allow myself to think too much about it.

    /end brief thread hijack
