What Date to use for Survival Status?

Ladies-

I was diagnosed 6/09 -- Just curious to know what date we use for Survival Date?

Would it be 6/10 as 1 year Survivor or

Last RAD treatment will be 3/17/10 -- so would it be 3/17/11 as 1 year Survivor?

    Most women use their dx date becasue that's the day they started fighting...and surviving!

    I use date of Dx....I remember going to the local Komen office and the gal said that you are a survivor from the time you hear those dreaded words "you have BC"

    Huh... I thought it was when I had my surgery and truly became cancer free!  I still have trouble believing I had cancer! It's kind of odd to write!

    karen- I remember those dreaded words--I was leaving the unemployment office, got in my car to drive away and the phone rang!  The Gyn told me right over the phone "Sorry I have bad news--you have breast cancer!"  Boy was I sent for a Loop----- what a way to break the news!!

    precioustime- me too.  I was driving in to work.  I had stayed home the day before because I was sore from the biopsy and was also waiting for the news.  Of course no results were available that day.  Instead they came in sometime in the evening and my doctor called me first thing in the morning.  On my way to work.  I'm not sure how I even got to the office.  I just showed up and walked back to my office and completely lost it.  Everyone was wondering what the heck had happened, because I'm usually so mild mannered.  Then, my father and my husband showed up after I had called them to let them know the news.  After that it was all a blur.  As far as my survivor status goes, I agree that I've been fighting since that day.  The lady at Komen is right about that.  But, personally, I consider myself a future survivor.  I'm still in the trenches (chemo- then rads and surgery to come) so until I feel somewhat safe again, I'm waiting to give myself that title.

    Our local support group uses the day you got the word. I had my biopsy on Wednesday morning and the doctor said to expect the results in 24 to 48 hours. Friday afternoon at 3:20 I got a call on my cell phone, the nurse asked me if I was at home alone and I knew the results. Unfortunately I am on the switchboard at my job and the others in my dept (IT) leave at noon on Fridays (come in early through the week) and I was alone on the first floor. She gave me the 'good' news that it was low grade DCIS and the doctor would want to see me the following week and the front office would call me on Monday or Tuesday to set up the appointment. I immediately unplugged the console, called my husband and cried, called my mom and cried, went upstairs to a friends office and cried. I think I was away from the board for about 15 minutes. On Sunday morning, I was driving by and saw my bosses car in the lot (he was working on month-end reports) and stopped to tell him what was going on.

    It's been ages since I posted here - originally dx'd 12/05. Just wanted to add that my Onc uses the date of surgery to remove it as the official date, for me that is 1/28/06, not that I am counting or anything.
