I have a dear friend whos husband has been battling stage IV glioblastoma for the past few months.  He is on disability from work which has caused his insurance to increase.  They have two young children and are struggling to make ends meet.  Does anyone know if there is some place they can turn to for financial help with bills and daily living expenses? They live in Washington State.  Her husband is currently in the hospital fighting pnemonia and a white blood cell count below zero :(  Thank you for your help.  Angi

Angi ~ You might start by calling the nearest American Cancer Society office, which should have a list of local resources.  You might also make their situation known to local churches, which often have either emergency funds or church members willing to help individuals or families in need, especially due to medical or other emergencies.  They do not have to belong to a church to request this sort of temporary assistance.

And here's a really helpful list that another BCO member obviously put a lot of work into compiling:  http://bb67.wikispaces.com/     Some of these programs are specifically aimed at breast cancer patients, but most are more general.  Hopefully, there will be one or more her that can help or can direct you to someone who can help.

Financial stress on top of a devastating illness is overwhelming.  I'm sure they will be very grateful for anything you can do to ease their situation.    Deanna

You can also call you local community hospital and they can tell you of any organizations that may help.  We have some local chapters that are happy to help but if you do not know about them they can't help.
