How significant is it if ILC was "multifocal"?

Hi Everyone,

Are there other ladies diagnosed with PILC or ILC and a tumor that was multifocal, and if so, what did your onc say about it as a factor in your bc? My ILC was multifocal, but my onc never mentioned if it was something to worry about...

Thanks,

Catherine

Catherine - My ILC was multi-focal. Two tumors were ILC and one was LCIS. Because it was multi-focal, a Mast. was my only option, and even though I did have a Mast., because it was multi-focal, my Onc thought I should have chemo. Other than that, he didn't mention anything else. I'm sure others will chime in with info as well. Best wishes to you.

I was just reading about this on the home page of bc.org. Type in ILC in search and there is alot of info. One of my 2 tumours was multifocal and the articles state this is very common with ILC. It doesn't make it more serious. I think having the double mast for me was reassuring~ otherwise I might have been dealing with more down the road. I was in the group of stats that show ILC is a little more common to appear in both breasts. My onc said this doesn't make it worse...hope so!

    Hi Catherine,

My tumor was also multifocal. In fact, I think there were 3 seen on my left side. I had to have a mastectomy also. My doctor also said that this was common with ILC

Thank you very much for your replies! Very interesting that all of us are close in stage and treatment-I had to have a mastectomy because of multifocal tumors, and chose to have a bilat. I had 4 rounds of taxotere and cytoxan because of the size. Fantastic to hear, LauraGTO, about your almost 5 years! We'll get there too, Pam and ktn. It puts my mind at a bit more ease hearing your docs don't think it makes the cancer more serious-which may be why my onc didn't mention it. He doesn't give me more to worry about than needed!

I have also been diagnosed with PILC in two areas.  One is said to be .5cm and the other microinvasion, as well as very extensive PLCIS 6cm, and another area of LCIS classic type all in the right breast.  I also had bilateral mastectomy, and currently still deciding on type of treatment.
