Just had surgery

Options

I just had my lumpectomy on Tuesday and my dr. had to do an axillary dissection which I hadn't planned on.  Cancer in the breast was identified thru a biopsy in Jan 10 as ILC; cancer was identified in lymph node 2 weeks ago as metastatic ductal.  The original plan was that I was going to have a lumpectomy and radiation, now my breast surgeon said more than likely I will need chemo and radiation.  I am seeing my oncologist on Tuesday...what questions should I make sure I get answered.

You can ask him how the lumph node changes the treatment plan  Also, ask him what your prognosis would be without chemo and then with chemo.  I know others here will have really helpful things to say.  BTW, chemo was really do-able for me.  Good luck.

When do you find out what stage and grade?  I keep seeing this on the posts but haven't been told yet...is this something that happens with the pathology report?  How long after surgery do they wait before starting chemo?

I started my chemo within 6 weeks of my mastectomy. The grade/stage was determined with the samples they took at surgery but I did not get those results until a week before chemo.

Questions to ask: what type of chemo, how many sessions, do you need/want a port. Chemo side effects, where will treatment be done, alternatives, clinical studies,

    Good Luck :)
