    Terri, you can't use that product you mentioned because it's about 20 times too weak and is only ioDIDE.

    Terri, I also buy mine at breastcancerchoices.org. I like to support them. There is a wealth of info there.

    I had to chuckle about your endo. What luck!!! Search for a new one.

    terri, I buy my iodoral from breastcancerchoices also.  They provide a wealth of information at their website and they use the money they raise from sales to fund the iodine research project.  Be sure to contact them when you want to take a loading test.  They'll collect your information and reimburse a certain amount of your testing.  Most people are deficient and you'd never reach saturation at 225 mcg doses. 

    Have you visited a local compounding pharmacy to ask if they fill scrips for naturethroid?  Maybe they'd share the name of a doctor locally who could help you.

    I've researched and the closest compounding pharmacy I've found is in Ontario about 1.5 hours away. They have a whole facility there that can do testing for hormones 2:16 ratio, iodine etc. You get a consult and they run a slew of tests. The base cost for the tests and consult is about $800. It's a bit much for my budget at the moment and of course, my insurance doesn't cover any of this. I'll start by ordering the pills from breastcancerchoices and then take the loading test. How long after starting the pills should I have the loading test?

    Maybe you could give them a call and say you have a scrip for synthroid, but you're more interested in naturethroid.  I would ask if they could fill such a scrip.  If they say yes, I'd ask if they can share names of doctors who have prescribed naturethroid.  As for the loading test, I took mine 5 months after I started iodoral.  For me it depended completely on scraping up some money first to cover the initial test fee.

    I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid 2 weeks into RADS. I am amazed that oncologists or other doctors have not made a connection between thyroid problems and breast cancer.I was told that the RADS weren't throwing off the TSH numbers and my last TSH blood test 18 months ago  had been in the normal range. So within 2 months I have BC and have to be on Synthroid and in the meantime I had adenofibrosis being watched for 7 years but the cancer showed up somewhere else in the breast.

    Also in the meantime I was getting sluggish - gaining weight especially in the breasts  - my hair was getting dull and brittle - all signs of thyroid not necessarily sign of post menopause.

    I agree with another post - if Synthroid gets my energy back and I feel better after the RADS are done then I will be happy to take Synthroid and hope someday the connection is finally made to monitor the thyroid and avoid encouraging cancer. I heard that cancer needs is a trigger to come out - maybe for some women it is our thyroid.

    PS I found out my brother has been on Synthroid for 3 years and my mother was diagnosed with BC the same age I was . So why doesn't the medical world look at our health history with a bit more attention?? I thought "prevention was the cure" is a mantra out there.

    SW7, Just FYI, I switched from Synthroid (synthetic thyroid) to a dessacrated thyroid (NatureThroid, others) and feel much better. something about it helping with T3 and T4 I think. Just FYI.

    Yes, absolutely. Synthroid may have made me worse in terms of fatigue.

    Armour, Naturethroid or there's another one called Westthroid--all are good. These three are desiccated thyroid so they have the hormone T3 in them.

    Synthroid is only T4. If your body can't convert T4 into T3, you're screwed.

    What is a normal dose of magnesium when taking iodine & Naturethroid?

    The Iodine protocol at Breast Cancer Choice is for 300-600mg of Magnesium. I take 450mg of magnesium glycinate.

    Thanks so much for the info - I have a list of questions every week for the Rad Oncologist and now I have more to ask the second opinion med oncologist -  I do feel extremely tired this weekend and would think the Synthroid should be canceling out RAD fatigue but it isn't.You ladies are great!

    SW7, you need to ask an knowlegable integrative medicine physician or a naturopath. Oncologists are not trained in this area. We've seen it again and again-- the oncs only understand Synthroid.

    I'm so excited!

    I found a compounding pharmacy downtown Montreal! They're closed on weekends and so I have to wait until Monday to get in touch with someone. Please Lord, let them have the name of a reputable Naturopath or endocrinologist that medicates with Naturethroid or the like.......!

    Thanks for reinforcing the suggestion about naturopaths - a friend told me to do the same. I need a new trip to the library also. I found an interesting article that explained how the break down of the thyroid gland enhances the cancer cells to multiply beyond connective tissue they would otherwise be trapped in and therefore  virtually harmless. I may have read something similar on this website also  but I brought the book back before I found out about my thyroid going kaput. Time for more research and to be informed!

    Fairy: I was supposed to call them today but had to leave early this morning for a funeral 2 hours away. My son-in-laws Mother passed away last week at the age of 66 after complications from heart surgery. We're all pretty devastated, it was the last thing we expected....

    I'll call the pharmacy tomorrow...keep crossing those fingers Fairy. I need all the help I can get!

    Many thanks for your sympathies. We're slowly getting over the shock of her not being here anymore. She was such a kind and caring lady, what a loss.

    On another note, I did manage to get in touch with the compounding pharmacy and I spoke to a Naturopath who happened to be there and she said that the pharmacy does fill prescriptions for dessicated thyroid !!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!! She gave me the name and # of an MD ND in the area who prescribes it! I called the office and he won't be in till Thursday and will call me back then. I just want to make sure (before I spend $ to see him) that he can prescribe all the things I want, iodine, natural thyroid, progesterone cream and also if he can test for my 2:16 ratio. I'M SO EXCITED ! I'm hoping the fact that he is an MD that is also into Naturopathy means that I can get my insurance to pay part of the prescription costs.... wouldn't that be great !

    Hello all, well I had the thyroid removal surgery last week and found out it was a good thing as it was cancerous, do any of you have both breast and thyroid cancer?  I have seen my endo and she started the synthroid,  she does not want me taking the natural one due to the cancer, she told me since it was encapsulated that I did not have to go thru the radioactive iodone treatment.  I see the surgeon again next week and then have to set up an appointment with my Onc.  Really down today on top of all else I have a miserable head cold.  I am reading up on thyroid cancer but always appreciate your input.  They also found that my calcium levels were low prior to surgery I am taking calcium supplements but they are hard on my system.  Any tips on making calcium easier to handle?  I ahve tried citrucel, caltrate, and viative.  All are with D and other trace mineral.  In May she is going to check all my levels, Vit D, Calcium, T-4 two types.  I am all for getting calcium thru food but eveidense points to it not working too good with the low numbers.

     I would fire any doctor that told you Armour Thyroid was bad for cancer. That's just plain uninformed. Every single online thyroid group will tell you that. Go to the group at http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

    Iodine deficiency can cause both breast and thyroid cancer.

    Also, try adding magnesium. It may get the calcium into the cells.

    Thanks Nan, I was reading the label on the Viactiv plus D my Endo reccomends and it has the Vitamin K in it.  I have been taking one Calcium Caltrate and one of the Viactiv D daily but will go to taking 2 of the Viactiv D.  They seem to be a littel easier on my system too.

    I know that the lack of iodine can mess up the thyroid, and be one reason for bc...but, does idoine supplements cure cancer  in your breast and thyroid? I've read that it can cause dcis to disappear. What about cancers in other parts of your body. I know someone who is stage IV ... I would like to recommend it to her, but wonder if it would help at this point. Can iodine kill advance cancers? I read something about iodine pumps, wondered if it was for more advance cancers and how it worked?

    So far, I'm using idoine as a prevention for a recurrence. I am taking idoral idoine...wonder why after a year my breast (cysts) are still lumpy...no changes.
