Calcifications in "other breast" " eight months after chemo

Hi all,

I have a question.  I recently had my first mamm on my "good" breast since my MS a year ago.  I was fully expecting to be doing the happy dance as I left.  But the third box was checked.  You know, the one that says, "come back in six months so we can check this again-  probably benign."  I don't understand.  If I went through chemo and am on tamoxifen, why would there still be calcifications in my other breast?  I thought chemo's job was to get rid of all that....Thanks, Tammy

    Hi Tammy,

    I had the same thing happen to me.  I did not have chemo, though.  Lump and rads, tamox.  I also had an MRI just after the mamo, for my peace of mind.  They told me the MRI finds a lot of false positives.  I would rather that than have cancer again.  The MRI showed only B9 cals, thank God! Now they can use that MRI and mamo as my baseline.

    Have you thought aboout asking for an MRI for your peace of mind?

    All calcifications are NOT cancer.   My sister has 100's of calcifications in her breasts and does not have cancer.... Chemo will not work on stuff that is not cancer....  Wishing you peace and health.   Tami

    Tammy,

    My breast cancer was found by a mamo as "cluster calcification's". I was told that many women over 40 have calcification's and usually they are not cancer as long as they are scattered. When they can indicate cancer, they're very small, like grains of salt, and grouped together in tight clusters.

    Tammy..that happened to me also..I requested a mamo 4 weeks after chemo was done..in the "good" breast...4 microcalcifications.  in a line ..one was rod shaped..had a biopsy..benign!  Birads 4...they are just being careful with you,,,I was freaking the whole time between the biopsy and the phone call so I won't tell you not to freak..however, they did the biopsy so I wouldn't freak for 6 months..maybe you should ask for one instead of waiting....
