Back from lumpectomy

Well, I survived. Wire placements took place around 8:15 in the morning; surgery was at 1:45 pm. Was pretty exhausted and starving and miserable by the time it rolled around (the valium had worn off).

I wish I liked my BS more. She's ok - came by to tell me both spots had been found and taken out and she seemed to have a pretty positive attitude, but then I had to ASK her all these after-care questions, like bathing, not getting it wet etc. Sheesh. I also hated the recovery room staff. (Told them I had to go to the bathroom, and they said, We'll bring you a bedpan.)

So if anyone from NYC is reading this, I don't give the highest marks to Columbia Presby. Of course maybe I'll feel differently when my results come in.

Will see her next Mon/Tues for followup and hopefully will get results by Tuesday.

As predicted, the wire placement wasn't that bad. I am THRILLED to have at least started this part of things. If I have to have a re-excision, so be it... I'm sure I"ll have to have radiation too.

Thanks for everyone's support and good wishes!

Thanks so much for posting. My lumpectomy is a week from today, so I am really eager to hear how yours went.  Hoping for a quick recovery and good pathology results.

I am so glad that you got through the wire placement and lumpectomy. Here is hoping for excellent news on Tuesday, in the meantime take care of yourself.

Glad everything went well......I never really like my BS, but like someone once told me, he is only for the surgeries and he is supposedly one of the best surgeons, so who cares about their lack of personality as long as they got all the cancer cells out and maybe your other dealing will be more pleasant with your medical oncologist....keep us informed and hope you heal and are feeling well real soon!!!.....June

So glad you are done with this part!  I do think the waiting is so hard.  I had a great water-proof dressing on my lumpectomy site and was able to shower the next day.  Made things a lot easier.  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you got good margins!  Hope you can rest and relax.

Mom3, I wish I had a waterproof dressing! Not sure I don't, but since the doc said don't get it wet I guess I'll just tape something over it for showers. Waiting IS hard. I'm not looking forward to this week at all... guess it will be ice cream and valium (and hydrocodone for today/tmorrow, maybe). I'm thinking of planning some travel and treats if things DON'T go the way I want. That way, if I get less-than-wonderful news I'll have some kind of silver lining.

DSJ, I'll be thinking of you when you have your lumpectomy. As most people have said, it's not that bad. The wire placement is not as rough as my biopsy was, and here it is, less than 8 hrs later and I'm home and relaxing!

Jelson and 3monst, thanks! Good to be back!

June22, I agree - and even when my BS told me I'd be following up with her for the rest of my life my husband said later, oh, please, you can see someone else if you want! I do think she did a good job. Will keep you all posted.

Glad to hear you're back. I have my fingers crossed for you that your results come back with clear margins. I didn't have a waterproof dressing either, but I had a shallow bath and just made sure to not get my "tube top" wet. Yes, my BC used a 1970's style tube top with a dressing inside. It worked really well, but I was ready to take it off after the 2nd day.

Keep us posted on your results, and hope you can get some good rest.
