please help calcium level of 10.6 in blood

Options

I am new to these boards.  My Mom who is 61 double mastectomy (1 on LB in 1979 the right breast in 2007). She helps me care for my ill daughter who is very sick and on a mask for breathing support.

Recently my Mom's blood report from her regular said she has 10.6 in blood calcium.  I am so scared.  She doesn't go for follow ups at her oncologist as her lymph nodes (in 2007) were clean and was petrified of chemo.  Her onc dx score said he was right at the number to do chemo.

Has anyone else here had high end of normal of calcium.

I appreciate any replies as I am very nervous.

Thank you so much

Erica

Well my blood calcium was once 10.8 -- this was two years before my BC diagnosis.  10.6 is really only borderline high.  Usually when there are bone mets causing a spike in blood calcium, the levels will be much higher.  It could be a problem with her parathyroid or it could be just a blip.  I found that when I stopped taking calcium supplements, my levels wen back to normal.  Her doctor will probably want to retest in a bit of time.  If she take calcium supplements she should maybe stop and see if that helps.

The same with me.  When I eliminated my calcium supplements then my blood calcium levels returned to the upper range of normal.  They were only slightly elevated with the supplements but it was enough to warrant further testing for parathyroid.

I also had a slight elevation of my calcium.  My onc ordered another calcium test in two weeks and a parathyroid test.  Negative for parathryroid and my calcium level also came down.  I didn't stop my calcium.  It's still normal...in the 9s..can't remember the exact number.  Like Member said, it could be a blip.  Also, it could be calcium supplements.

Same with me.  I also had a slight elevation of my calcium and my doc ordered another calcium test and a parathyroid test.  The parathyroid test came back negative and the calcium came down. I didn't change my calcium intake which is about 1500 a day.   The doc thinks it was  a blip.
