Vagifem
Gyn prescribed vagifem for vaginal dryness but it has estrogen in it. He said it they like to wait unitl BC patient are a year out from DX before using (could not get good sample for pap smear due to dryness, so he wants me to use it). Actually, I don't want to be in the same room with estrogen!! He says it is safe because it stays in the vagina-does not go to the breast. He also told me HRT was safe, I don't think I would have BC if I hadn't take HRT.
I called Oncologist, nurse said it was safe to take on a short term basis if I was having problems with dryness. Short term.
Anyone used this, what to ya'll think??

I have used estrogen cremes in the past as well (when going through menopause). Believe it or not, loss of estrogen in urinatry tract affects incontinence.
I used it for maybe a month.
It is my understanding, also, that it is not the same as ingesting estrogen, either by mouth or into the bloodstream.

Thanks, I did not know that about the incontinence. I guess it makes sense about not being the same as ingesting it, I am just so afraid of estrogen in any form. I need to adjust.

nmi, I know, I didn't know that either. I had been having trouble with the "tinkle" when I would cough or sneeze, and then sometimes, if I couldn't get to the bathroom in time, it would just come, no matter how hard I "clenched."
I put off going to the urologist because I already "knew" what he was going to say, "Lose some weight, sweetie."
But when I finally couldn't take it any more, he checked me out for any physical issues, then started asking me about menopause symptoms.
That's when he explained the connection to me, and I was stunned! I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but it was quite a few years ago. I used the cream, like I said for about a month, and then maybe a handful of other times after that, but not again for many years.
All I know is, it worked!

I use Estring rather than Vagifem as I was told it had lower estrogen and very little of the estrogen went into the body. Hated to use it but it has made a big difference. No longer have painful vaginal dryness nor urinary infections. I was surprised to learn vaginal dryness can caused urinary infections.

Hi,
After a number of years of vagifem, I stopped it the day I was diagnosed with BC, ER+. My doc has recommended Vit E vaginal suppositories either 400IU or 800 IU. I used them for about 10 days just before going to bed. Now about 2 x /week. They are wonderful, do the trick(s) albeit a bit messy.
There is no way I will go near anything with estrogen in it. I am NOT convinced AT ALL it stays in the vagina.
Good luck!

bcamnb,
I guess that's how I feel, I don't want to be in the same room with estrogen.
Why can't anything be easy!! Drs, nurses says it is safe, but something just scares me about it.
I like the Vite E -is that over the counter?

Whatever.

Hi Nmi,
My Vit E is a prescription but I think it can be obtained over the counter (at least in Alberta Canada).
