Very interesting study suggests that low-dose aspirin can reduce spread of breast cancer by 50%.

I think Fox got it wrong.  I'm a couple of weeks out of date but my understanding at the time the study was released was that there was no indication of what dosage of aspirin the women were taking.  There is confusion as to whether it was low dose or full dose that provided the benefit.

There are a couple of other discussion threads that have been going on this topic for some time so you might find more information there. But because the study was based on self-reporting, there really are no clear and definitive results.  And as Rose pointed out in an earlier thread about this in the DCIS forum, the positive benefit was specific to a reduction of metastatic risk and since those with DCIS don't have metastatic risk, the results really don't apply.

I don't know why urls within the discussion never seem to work the first time they are posted - all other urls do. Very frustrating. Usually if the links are edited and re-entered, they do work so I will try to do that. Try the links in the orginal post again.

If they don't work, just use the search button at the top right hand corner of the discussion forum and input "Aspirin".  There have been more threads than just the two that I linked and all of them should pop up if you do the search.

    thanks,

i did a search and the suggestions/comments were all over the board.  i think i'll start taking the baby aspirin and keep trying to find out more specifics as (hopefully) studies will continue regarding this amazing topic.  i have a strong family hx of cardiovacular disease so one baby aspirin per day couldn't hurt.

    VinRobMom,

Aspirin is one of the oldest forms of medication, extracted from Willow bark. Native Americans used Willow Bark as a healant and medicine.  I read the study that it was taken from, and the dose was baby aspirin every other day. As Beesie stated, all studies are just that, not conclusive evidence, but I figure aspirin therapy is good for women over 40 for many reasons-- heart issues, blood flow, inflammation. I am going to start taking a course after I get done with radiation. My stomach isn't bothered by baby aspirin, but some do experience problems with it.  I am hoping that it gets a little more attention by other researchers.
