Afternoon...gorgeous sun out there...
Julie...Laura said it perfectly...sometimes we get away from why we are here...but we are here to support you...always. I know you did talk about "buzzing"..but maybe is it more like "electric shocky thingies"? Now, there is medical terminology for you! Reason I ask is this is what I had almost 3 years ago, right before I started rads. It really presented itself in the back of the L thigh...eventually it moved to the hip at which time I had an MRI and was dx'd with herniation at L5-S1 and also degenerative disc disease. This continued to progress and by the time I finished with rads I did have L hip pain and I had R hip pain but this was more caused by me "walking funny". I finally ended up in the ER, sobbing in pain and after 4 days of morphine, vicodin and dilaudid I had back surgery...where it was found that 2 tiny pieces had broken off and were lodged against the nerve. So...this could very well be what you are experiencing...especially since you have started running. Is there a reason they stared with the scan rather than an MRI? Just wondering....keeping fingers crossed that this is all it is...and then we will celebrate your bad back! Funny the things we celebrate and Pat is right...people outside our select little circle just don't get it. Hugs, honey! Come back and talk to us if you want...alll weekend if you want! We will be here....
Julie...wondering how it was going for you. Only 28 more to go, I see on fb! And yes...when you are done, winter will be done! Perfect!
Welcome Natalie! I did carbo/taxotere/herceptin but I was the exception in that I had no se's from chemo and yes, I was extremely lucky. I was never tired. Funny thing tho, about a year later...I started taking naps pretty much every day...for about 6 months. Always wondered if it was just delayed fatigue...I had just finished my year of Herceptin and relaxed...and got tired.
Off to start dinner....

Happy Birthday Kater, does a cyber piece of cake have calories?
-
jneumann,
That cake only has calories IF it causes us to run to the best bakery in town for a piece of real time cake. I am an on and off again chocoholic. I can see me in a fit carrying that picture to the best bakery in town demanding a real time cake!
OMG...the spellcheck here knows "chocoholic" and so I wonderr WHAT that means!
-
Oh Elfsong I cant wait to meet you. My schedule is very flexible so whatever is good for you girls, will work for me. P F Changs it is....
-
Hi Girls,
I have had a super busy, somewhat hideous week. Just saw the post about PF Changs in Orland. So exciting, it is nice and close to me. Just let me know when and I should be able to make it, not much planned.

Not staying long. Just wanted to welcome Natalie. Fantastic ladies here so hope you will keep coming back I am still feeling flu-like. Gosh, I am not at all used to the extreme tiredness and aching in specific places -- like upper arms, side of neck, parts of the back, thighs -- weird. Hoping that it decides to just slip away. I don't think I have ever had the flu, and I can't say I want it now.
See you tomorrow.
Hugs, Jackie

Natalie - Welcome! My chemo effects definitely got worse toward the end. I still blame a lot of it on the Neulasta shots. I was supposed to take the shots after each of my 8 infusions, but I stopped after 4. I couldn't handle the muscle/body aches. I don't know anything about carbo, though - I had A/C+T. Hopefully others here will chime in.
Budder - I will try to meet you gals...let us know where and when - once you decide.
Donna - Bitter Melon is in the Gourd family. I recently had a heavy metals test done, because I have some Mercury fillings that I want removed. My dentist is half holisitic and he suggested I eat some to help bring the levels down (levels were also high due to recent CT/MRI contrast). And I read a study that is ongoing about it possibly killing cancer cells. http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/health/2010/02/24/2010-02-24_bitter_melon_shows_promise_in_protecting_against_treating_breast_cancer_study.html I'm just curious about it. Dentist said Caputos Market sells it fresh - I want to add it to my juices. But like anything...we should always ask our Drs about it.
Jackie - Hope you're feeling better today. I bet a piece of that gorgeous cake would help.
Susan - It's great that you and dh cross country ski! It is a great form of exercise. Thanks for the offer, I think I might get the ones from Play It Again (wish I would have throught about all this back in November!). Have you heard of the trails at Deer Grove? http://www.fpdcc.com/tier3.php?content_id=40&file=rec_40e
And, you probably know about these, but if not, here's a link to all the trails in Lake County: http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cfm
Mich, Juliet, Lisa, Elf, everyone - HI there!
-
Hi ladies -
Julie - sorry you are having to worry about your back. Back pain is very common and it could be a number of things. But, we ALL understand the worry. You are in my thoughts for your scan.
Mich - sorry about the osteo. Wow! I started Actonel this week on Wednesday. I did feel a teeny bit nauseous for about an hour but no other issues. Yes, I was told weight bearing exercises - I do a lot of walking so I guess that counts. Let me know what your doc said about how much calcium and Vit D.
Happy belated Kater! Hope you had a great day.
Welcome Natalie! Sorry you are here. I don't know anything about carbo - wish I could help.
Take care everyone!
-
Julie-Wishing good results for you. Sorry for what you are going through. Keep yourself busy with the kids to take your mind off of this stuff. Try to enjoy your weekend. Hugs to you.
Connie-sending you a p.m.
-
Mich - I'm sorry about the Osteo. It seems so crazy that so many of us have it. And most of us are still considered "young". I sent you a pm. I'm sure others will share their info here too. Have a nice weekend.
-
Totally off topic...
However, I wanted to share this with the new girls and remind the "regulars" that my message of HOPE is loud and clear - wherever I "go":
-
Morning....I see we got a light dusting of snow last night but I really don't mind, after I saw all that snow in the East, with more coming for them next week. And don't forget...March 1st is meteorological spring and I know I didn't spell that right!!!!! But I can spell SPRING !!!!! And that is all that matters.....SPRING!!!!! YAY!!!!!!
Laura...love the newest avatar...you are soooo cute! And you were having a great hair day...
Mich101...jeepers...another osteo gal! You are just too young for this! Hopefully you can get a handle on it...and don't forget the weight bearing exercise...VERY important! But this is fixable..
Julie....thinking about you...hopefully your hips/back are feeling better this weekend...
Juliette....glowing yet???? So..you are actually on the table for 15 minutes? Wow...but then you are having more areas zapped I think. I was only on the table for about 5 minutes, after they lined me up, which only took about a minute. I was so happy to be done with the driving every day to that place! I think my car could have driven itself!
Carolyn...what's next with your journey?
Marina...how are you feeling? Having Herceptin every week? How's the nanny?
Jackie...no snow?
Rita....soon you will be hitting the links cuz...did I mention...it is SPRING on Monday....
Lisamed....why was your week so hideous? You just busy???? Hope you are OK...
Connie....SPRING is Monday...you putting the boat in the water soon?
BJ....don't forget....SPRING is coming next week.....YAY!! Never did find any good fares for springbreak so we will be spending it here....maybe the weather won't be so bad!
Nothing much going on....again...this weekend. I will be glad when February is over. March just sounds better......hope you all have a great Saturday. I will be off to Menards later to pick up some paint....Just a little change and won't take much time next week to change to a different shade of green...need more gray in the green, and less yellow I think. Boy....sure lots of greens to pick from!!!!
-
Morning All!
Hey Wendy - Did anyone tell you that Spring is Monday. LOL
My pelvic ultrasound came back with the cyst on the ovary being normal.
The radiologists have reviewed the original MRI I had done and the mammograms and I may not have to have the second MRI. They may have me go for an ultrasound. YEAH! I did not want to get back in the MRI machine. Then I should be ready for surgery.
Today I'm going bra shopping for a sports bra that closes in the front and a birthday present for my 2 year old nephew.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Trying to post a picture of a stained glass bc awareness ribbon I made. Not sure how to do it. I have a copy in photobucket, will that work?
Carolyn-Yeah for good results!!
-
Wendy What room are you painting?
Caroly So glad its just a cyst. I know you are relieved.
My boy is at Regionals today for wrestling. I missed it last year becuase I just had the mascetomy. This year I am SICK. High fever. cough, sinus. achey. I am home in bed.
-
Carolyn - That's great news about the cyst and the possible ultra sound. Have a nice weekend.
Michele - In Photobucket select the directlink. Copy it and then click on the the tree icon in the post a reply box here. Paste it and it should work. If not copy it into an e-mail and send it to me and I will post it for you.

Good morning everyone... Boy, I thought I'm the only one up early with baby.. boy am I wrong.. Just wanted to report that I had a much better experience with Tx #2.. With a change in my anti-nausea drugs and not taking anything other than the steroids I've had only a heartburn which I managed with Pepcid!! Afraid to get excited as I have over 20 tx to go!! Now I am just hoping that the mass starts shrinking. The Dr said he thinks it may have softened.. but that was after one week, and my milk is STILL not over.. after 3 weeks...wow!!
SO, the only thing left to manage is the horrid pains in my port!! Jabbing pain into me all day and night.. can't sleep.. can't pick up the baby..but hopefully that will eventuall go away. Dr says to take Tylenol.. but with my liver, I don't want to take chances..
Hopefully the weather changes and the sun starts coming out and puts us all in a peppy mood!!
Marina

Good morning everyone.....oh that lovely sun is out there and we are going to have pretty much great temps. Whew -- about time. Well, what I really want is for the yuck ( great professional sounding word, isn't it )? and mud to dry up. So, Wendy, a little bit of Spring is leaking into southern Illinois already. Generally these temps are not un-common this time of year, but I admit i was starting to lose hope. It was so wild all through this month.
Well, guess after breakfast, we will head to Marion and hit the old emergency room. I am just not coming around. Felt flu like since Tuesday and that has not materialized, and I just can't seem to move forward from whatever seems to have a bit of a hold on me. Sill ache where I don't usually -- warmish though I don't think I have a fever, tired, and though I sleep good it does not seem to be productive as far as these goofy symptoms. I am also starting to feel mildly weaker and not much of an appetite.
Nuf' bout' me --- boring!!!! Can't remember -- did I tell you that I participated in a phone interview Thus. night with a lady doing a paper for PHD on support groups ( specifically cancer ). I really enjoyed it. Still not sure that I really was able to contribute much but glad that I did it.
On a sadder note and I hope she doesn't mind --- I wrote up some things for our friend SameDayNurseJan who just lost her mother. She got a hold of me feeling that I might be able to offer some words or something appropriate for her readings at her Mom's service. I hope I managed -- just concerned since I don't feel just tip-top.
Well, best get going. I'll be checking back in later. Let you know what my ongoing un-flu may be.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Thanks Laura, well it's kinda small but you get the idea. Now I am working on a heart with the bc ribbon wrapped around it.
-
Jackie- Sorry to read you're not feeling well. Hope things start getting better soon! Hugs to you.
-
Mich, beautiful stained glass. Hello to everyone.
I just returned from Palm Beach FL. Attended a beach wedding. It was very nice. I had good weather too.
Exchange surgery is March 11. I can't wait until it is over. Just want to get on with my life.

-
Jackie - What did the Dr say? Hope you're feeling better.
Michele - That is really beautiful. I didn't know you do stained glass. It's an art I've always admired.
Wendrew - How did paint shopping go?
Marina - If your port continues to be painful and becomes intolerable, there is a port available that goes into your upper arm. It's smaller too. One of the girls here had it and didn't have any complaints. I'm not sure if every person is a candidate, atleast you may have an option.
Navy - A wedding on the beach - how fun! Good luck on the 11th.

Was hoping Jackie had posted an update...
-
I am in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (we decided against Waupaca) and I am thinking about Laura as we went by where they race cars!
Jackie, I am worried about you. Let us know what is going on!
Michelle, that stained glass is so pretty!
I love this place. The lake is covered with snow and it is just so pretty! And lucky for us, there are so many antique stores so DH and I are in heaven. I collect old books and I am finding so many. And I have free internet. And Rita, there is a bowling alley! I just discovered bowling a few years ago and I like it. I think Paul hates it, but there is not much going on in this small town at night, so maybe he will take me on a bowling date. The hotel is just so-so but a fine getaway all the same. I work three days next week so it is nice to get away and relax.
I am thinking of all the younger ladies who are in treatment and wishing an praying that it all remains good news.

Hi,
Me again.
Carol- just a quick note on the front closing sports bra. I looked last fall all over and could not find ANY until I wandered into JC Penneys- and found a whole bunch. Just passing it on.
Hip, back pain continue. Seems to change in nature, depending on activity. I'm a mental pendulum- one minute thinking, well, this just must be related to my disc issues and then next, have one foot in the grave. Driving myself nutso. A friend of mine sent me a graphic of a PAUSE button and I've printed it out, am carrying it around in my purse. Silly- but the visual helps a bit.
Thank you for all the support. I make absolutely no judgment on how anyone chooses to handle their own personal situation. I'm just not a fan-- for me-- of any of kind of anti anxiety med or painkiller. Won't even all the dentist to give me novacaine. (yeah, total control freak.) So am trying to manage this anxiety and keep all in check. The distraction of the kids helps. I'm okay for the moment.
On the lighter side-- Took my son to his first eye doc appt. We received a letter back from the school indicating he had failed the eye test there. The eye doc was great- just wonderful with my squirrely, nervous 7 yr old. She asked him about the school test--- Tim huffed and dismissed it-- "Oh that thing. That was stupid. The letters were too small and they wouldn't let me walk over to read them. I don't think that test should count." Doc had a good laugh. No glasses now-- but they are definitely in his future. Crud- that was one gene I was hoping not to pass on....

-
Susan-Are you going to cross country ski there? I always wanted to try it but I feel like I am so out of shape that I would be exhausted right away. Let me know how it was.
-
Yoo-hoo, I'm over here. Just got back from a rather exhausting day. Sitting in emergency rooms are never fun and the 72 mile trip to get there --- I just could have done without too. Well, the results are nothing. Well, it actually is something....but the something is viral in nature of which there are thousands. As it stands -- four vials of blood were all negative for any problem...and ekg and thyroid were good. I only need to be concerned if symptoms get any worse, or new ones come. Dr. said in all likelihood in 7 days or so I would have probably overcome whatever this is and will have a little interior army ready to fight it should I get something like it again. Though I'd have liked an answer.....everything about it is too un - specific to test or treat. I was sort of happy because I worried that I might be "causing" damage in some way by all the forcing myself I was doing.
Tomorrow will be a long day as I will be playing catch-up for all the things that have had to go by the way-side while this had me in its grip. I do not by the way make a great patient. I don't complain.....and I hate feeling like I'm resting on my laurels or anything else.
Ok, I'm going to jump into the recliner -- bushed again -- as usual. I'll see you all in the morning.
Hugs to everyone and I appreciate the many expressions of care.
Jackie

Morning....last day of February! Tomorrow is the first day of meteorological s[ring! Temps will be going up into the 40's with sun so snow will melt...birds will sing....we will frolic in the grass!
Jackie....I didn't read about your trip to the ER until after you got home! Glad it was nothing more than a bad virus. But of course too bad it was a virus cuz you just have to wait it out. Don't push yourself today or tomorrow for that matter. Whatever needs doing have DH take care of for you. Sending "feel better" vibes your way!
Juliechicago....I don't blame you for going crazy....until your scan, you are going to worry. We always do and unfortunately, always will. Ilike your "button" tho - if it works, why not have it in your purse! I loved DS's statement about the letters being too small! That's how I feel about newspapers...when did that print get to that size, and why aren't my arms longer???? Hang in there...only 2 more days! Will your doc get the results for you right away???
Laura....I got my paint. It's still green but more sage-y than the spring-y green I had put up...the green I have now doesn't look good with the new drapes I just hung which leads me to...
Budders...not painting a room. I still haven't put paint on my builder's white walls and we bought this house almost 9 years ago! I just painted the fireplace wall, the entry/foyer wall and the area under the chair rail in the dining room. I have painted the kitchen and all 3 baths but with these modern houses with the 2 story foyers (hello - scaffolding!) and open concept I could never decide on a color or where to stop and start paint colors...so .... I just change the accessories/pictures etc for color.
Mich101...I didn't know you did stained glass either! It is beautiful! Was it hard to learn?
BJ....where ya been? Are you OK? Miss you...let me know about that back/seat cushion at Menards...there were only a few left yesterday when I went back to get paint.
Rita....and where are you? Are you and BJ on some beach without me?
Susan...sounds like you are having a wonderful weekend! I wish DH and I would do something like that but we are such warm weather people that anything outside does nothing for us.
Funny thing yesterday...DH needed a small little "gifty" thing so we stopped at Pier 1 for a nice candle...he had never been in there. So...he's walking around looking at all the furniture, and he stops at this chair and table and says...boy this is nice! And is it comfortable! We should get something like this! And I said...and you already know where this is going....yes, isn't it? That's why I bought them 2 years ago and they are in our living room! MEN!!!! gotta love them I guess..
Don't forget.....SPRING comes tomorrow!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! Don't forget to frolic.......
