Herceptin leaked into tissue?

I am wondering if anyone has had one of thier infusions leak into their tissue. My last infusion, the girl had trouble getting it going. I asked her if she knew what she was doing. She did not cover it and it was kind of hanging on the site. Anywho, when I got home that night, I took off the band aid and it hurt. I felt the area and it was sore and swollen. I thought maybe some saline leaked out but the area was burning and felt bruised. After it did not go away, I ended up spending a day at the hospital getting a port check and xrays.....they tell me the port is fine and that the girl who infused me must have missed the port at first and that I have the herceptin sitting there in my tissue. They told me my body will absorb it, but that it will take awhile. Has anyone had this happen to them? It hurts and is burning. It has been two weeks. I am not happy. Just looking for some insight or ideas on how long this will take.

Thanks

    Hi Giglgrl

I had a nurse miss the port once too.  I felt the coolness around the port site. Thankfully, it was just saline. She tried to tell me the port had flipped, but I just think she wasn't paying close attention. I talked to the head chemo nurse after that, and requested to NEVER have that nurse again. I hope someone who is "in the know" will come along and answer your question. Just wanted you to know that my port was missed once too. It seems to me like Herceptin would be better than chemo that leaked.......but I'm no expert!!

    Good luck!!! Hang in there!!

It happened to me this week, it was my fault not the nurses.  I am also sore and the muscles on my shoulder and arm are really sore, achy and swollen.  Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I had the needle slip out of the port during one of my AC infusions.  The area immediatle started to burn.

I called the nurse who rushed over and repositioned the needle.  The situation was fixed so quickly I had no after effects in the area.
