Has anyone who is scheduled for a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with immediate recon ever gotten cold feet? If so, how did you handle it? What got you over the hump? My surgery is still a month away, but I know how fast time flies when you really want it to stand still. If I have ever been on an emotional rollercoaster, this is it. Thanks for your help. I do have a blog and have been writing about the whole decision making process if anyone is interested. www.breastcancermom.blogspot.com

I too had LCIS and decided to go with a PBM and one step implants and I'm so glad I did. I was getting cold feet then I thought about how stressful all the testing every 6 mons. would be for the rest of my life and said I can do this. I had cold feet the night before my surgery and was going to cancel and then I said again I can't go though life wondering if the down the road will the tests show "something".  So, I did and have never looked back. That was a year ago in Jan. I feel great and you will to. All the stress your feeling will be gone. If I can help you out with any questions send me a PM.

    Good luck

My diagnosis was a little different, but at the time of my surgery they thought I was stage 1 and I still had the option of a lumpectomy. I went with bilateral mastectomy (prophylactic in the left) because I didn't want to worry so much about my future. It gave me peace of mind, and now, fourteen months later, I still have no regrets. The one thing a few women have mentioned is that they hadn't been told how little feeling they'd have in their new breasts. Sexual response, for instance, is gone. To some that's a huge deal, to others the peace of mind is worth the sacrifice.

Hugs to you, and whatever you decide, I hope you'll feel at peace with your decision. We're all different in our needs, and there's no right answer.
