MRI Report

I'm sorry that your MRI has brought bad news.  What's important to understand however is that there is no way to know what the MRI is actually showing until you have surgery and the breast tissue is examined under a microscope. MRIs are super sensitive and while they are good at highlighting cancer, they also highlight all sorts of other things, including many that are benign. In my case my MRI showed a lot more suspicious breast tissue than what the mammo showed, and the MRI turned out to be right - it was all DCIS.  But there have been other women here who've had situations where it was their MRI that over-estimated the size of the area of cancer. 

As for the lymph node, while it's not possible for DCIS to be in your lymph node (DCIS cannot move outside of the milk duct and therefore cannot move to the nodes), with any preliminary diagnosis of DCIS it is always possible that there is also some invasive cancer present.  And if there is invasive cancer, then yes, it could be in your nodes.  But here again it's also possible that the MRI is showing something that turns out not to be cancer.  Lymph nodes get infected for lots of reasons - it's the role of the nodes to capture infection.  Even your previous biopsy could have led to an infected node.  So, as impossible as it is, try not to jump ahead and draw conclusions from the MRI.  Your MRI certainly highlights some potential concerns but they could all turn out to be false alarms.

I had some "hot spots" that were id'd on my MRI with contrast dye, and they turned out to be fibrocystic changes (totally natural), and not more cancer. The bad part is that I had to have a total of 6 biopsies (1 stereotactic, 5 Sono-guided) to determine that. I am so sick of needles at this point. I can honestly say I was so happy to have general anesthesia for my lumpectomy so I didn't have to deal with more needles and breast issues for a few hours.  Good luck with your MRI report, and keep us posted on what happens with the results.
