Titan...CCBaby has tan lines too! So there. Plus Aprilgirl1 PM'd me and said the same thing, so the tan lines are not another bad betsy SE. I'm starting to get a complex.

Glad you said the 9:30 thing....I use to be able to stay up but not so much these days. Man this aging thing is for the birds.

CC sorry your breast/chest looks bad. But remember.....looks aren't everything. I'm not even thinking bathing suits...I've gained so much weight, it's scary.

So ladies where in the world are we going to meet? Are we headed to Springfield? Since CC can't come to us...we go to her? Otherwise I say LV. I need to look up on a map where the hell Springfield is? Is that where the Simpson's live??? Maybe the wrong state. Oh well...somebody make a decision.

BTW - I got a full refund on my non-refundable ticket to France due to BC. It's a long story but I wrote a deeply disappointed letter to the airlines and it worked. Sometimes life is good.

Happy Valentines Day Ladies. You all are sweethearts!.

Oh Betsy, I'm so glad you got the refund! Sometimes you just have to get in there and get all scrappy and demand that things be made right, good for you!

I know where Springfield is, I went to college there. So CC, do you think Branson could be the Missouri substitute for Vegas???? he...he...he.... Or we could rent a house at the Ozarks! Hey CC, do you think you could go if we choose a destination that is having a hair show at the same time, then you have a great excuse for writing off a business trip. I too am a hair stylist and am working hard at getting back my regular crush of clients. Like you I need to work as much as possible and taking more time off leaving those devoted ones in the lurch may not bode well. For the most part they have been incredibly supportive, but at some point I suppose a little consistency is in order.

Did anyone watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics? My son lives in Vancouver, BC and called to tell me he and his girlfriend were in the crowd of people running with the truck transporting the flame to the cauldron. He was pretty excited and said there are tons of free events going on in and around the city for everyone to participate in. All the schools are closed for the next two weeks. Sounds like fun!

Yay to the Olympics..thank heavens they are in the same time zone..basically for mostof us....I remember 21 years ago...feeding my DD at 2 am and watching the Olympics...I think my dh and I were the only ones to see things "live"

Ok..Betsy..there are other people like you..I was getting worried there.

About our trip..looks like July might work...so..middle or end of July?  I csn go anytime...so will we go ..what 3 o 4 nights?  What hotel?  I guess I'm thinking LV..that seems like the most logical choice..looking at the ta ta's...they are deciding on a date...then signing up rooms...we can decide on when,..what hotel...then get our room assignments and then call the hotel with our credit cards and reserve rooms.  let's go for it...

Betsy....Springfield, MO is smack dab in the middle of the U.S.! Not too much here, just the main headquarters of Bass Pro and this is where Brad Pitt is from. His family still lives here. I just saw his brother Doug a couple of months ago at the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. He waved at me for some reason, I don't even know him! He is actually better looking than Brad!

LOL Echo! Lots of shows in Branson, but no gambling! Which school did you go to here? There are so many here. That's so cool that you are a hairstylist too! Thats awesome that your son and his girlfriend were there at the Olympics!!

Just wanted to throw out something.  My mom and dad lived in Las Vegas for 20 years.  In July it's 120 degrees.  I was there at that time at at  ll:00 p.m. it was 105.  I'd love to go to Las Vegas, just wanted everyone to know what they're getting into.  Course if we stay in, we're good.

Oh...Christy, Brad Pitts brother...ooh la la. I'm sure it was that cute hair cut that had him waving at you. I have hair envy. Mine still is too short and too curly. I'm not good with hair.

I'm with Kawee, LV in July does not sound good to me. Too hot... How about some place on the water? I need water, if it's hot.

Mary - we watched the cermonies last night and really enjoyed them. I'm glad your son got to be part of it. Pretty cool.

I thought about LV being hot in July also...ok..if we are going in July we need water...let's keep on talking...I wouldn't mind hanging out with Brad Pitt's brother either..or even Brad Pitt..if he is free by then...if Jen and Angie aren't hanging around anyway...no harm in looking!  Not that old..yet.

I see the dates of our proposed get together moving further into the summer. Should we just go with the 2nd TaTa Sisterhood trip to Las Vegas in October? I have my name on that list but won't totally commit until later in the year.

As Betsy knows the Pacific Northwest is lovely in the summer. Hood River, where I live is a charming and very scenic town in the Columbia River Gorge that has garnered lots of attention over the past ten years as a great destination for all sorts of sports, food, wine and shopping. You could all come stay with me! Portland is a great city.......how many beds you got Bets?

Either way, I'm still up for a meet up. Where ever you all decide you want to go!

There's also an "In it to win it" breast cancer rally in Santa Barbara in September.  Looks like great fun.  Everyone in pink shirts and pink crowns, etc.  I see it advertised on TV.

Someone just pick a spot.  I'm afraid as time goes by it won't happen.  Who can we nominate as the picker.  The rest of us will be the pickee.

    Hey all,

I'd love it if you all came to the west coast. Portland is a great city and Hood River is a blast. Kawee I'd love to come to Santa Barbara, it's so pretty there.  But something in me says let's meet in the middle. Also regarding timing, I think we should shoot for some time in April or this fall (mid to late October). As the summer months get booked up with family vacations and we all know our families deserve "kudos" for helping us through this past year.

I think if we can pick a weekend that works for most then we can come up with a location. Just a quick look at the map Denver and Kansas City look like options. I know Denver has a cute old town and know absolutely nothing about Kansas City. But I'm thinking both might be hubs for airlines. I will throw my schedule out there: I'm open the first, third and fourth weekends in April and October. What do those dates look like for you all?

You know Titan, that brain thing is the worst! I can feel good, no aches or pains, the bills paid, the weeds out of the garden, the horses happy, the cancer gone....or is it gone??well what if it comes back....but who will have the stamina to take care of me if it comes back...why is my incision puckering all of the sudden...cancer on my chest wall????this cough isn't going away, has it spread to my lungs???...and round and round I go.

A couple of weeks ago when my husband and I were in the Yucatan, I was sitting on the beach watching a wedding. It was nice and simple, about 20 friends and family, a sweet song playing as the bride and her girlfriends arrived. I sat on my chaise blubbering uncontrollably into my beach towel because I am convinced that I won't live long enough to see either of my children married, or have children or blah, blah, blah........

Titan, the bad things in our heads is part of this journey. Like the physical things, look it square in the eye, say, "f*%k off", and move on girl. We're gonna hang in there with you....no matter what ;)

I try to remember thoughts are not reality.  They are like a radio playing in the background.  We need to learn to tune them out.  They will always be there, but we can't believe them.  I try to practice this, it's not easy.  Supposedly, the more we practice, the better we get at it. I try to stay in the present moment and dismiss the what ifs, because the what ifs are not real.

I hate those what ifs too!   They can just f'** off too!

OK my turn to SCREAM!!!! So this new (old) drug I'm on for my RIF seems to have a manufacturing problem in China and is now no longer available at any of our local or regional distribution centers. I got a 10 day supply, thanks to a study going on here in Portland. Tonight I'm hoping Canada has some backup supplies. Apparently it's not a common drug. Recently I've had piss poor luck...sometimes I do feel like a little black cloud (or should I say a thunder cloud) is following me.

On top of it all my boob is red, hot and has begun to hurt again. One step forward, two steps back...this is reminding me of the chemo days WHEN WHINING WAS GOOD.

Titan - I think a little whining now and again is good. Sort of like Soup for the Soul...Whining for the Soul. I like it, maybe a good title for my book! LOL.

Laura - Are you ok? No posts lately. I hope all is well. Has your WBC come back up to normal yet? I will find out next week about mine. Man are they going to be shocked at the weight I've gained, I wish I could say it was all water weight...but it's not. It's disgusting.

On a positive note - I had a good hair day today. So life isn't all that bad.

Of course it's all about the hair LOL! Betsy....what is the deal with this red-hot boob of yours! Have you seen the doc lately about it? Have they checked to see if it is some sort of staph infection? Is it left over from the original surgery or was this caused by rads? Should I just shut up now? sorry, I am so frustrated over this....so I can only imagine how sick and tired of it you must be, aaauuugghhhhhh!!!!!! Hang in there girl. BTW, I have a kid living in Canada if you need drugs.

Echo...or MISS QUESTIONS?  So..when are you going to law school anyway...I think that you should definitely be a prosecutor...a few million questions and they will plead guilty to shut you u (and I'm just kidding..you know that).

I asked Betsy why she didn't just leave her bad boob above the water but she didn't answer me. that is weird that a hot tub would do that to her this far away from rads....

I think that maybe we should hold a contest to name her boob...it is obviously not doing what it is supposed to be doing...like healing....she can put another chapter in her book....

Echo - This definitely happened after rads. I swelled a lot during rads and I kept telling them how it didn't seem normal. They sort of dismissed me as my tissue wasn't breaking down. My breast was fine after surgery and all the way through chemo, smaller but normal. I've had three different drs look at it since Dec. They all said the same thing "infection", except my bs. She dx'd it as early radiation induced fibrosis. Basically, the rads caused the tissue not to heal correctly. I liken it to trunkal lymphedema...the fluid is not draining right at the cellular level, causing the infection. It doesn't affect my arm at all, just the chest quadrant. I think the hot tub just brought everything to the surface again. Heat does that to infections. I'm mostly frustrated cause it was getting better, now I'm starting at square one again. I should have listened to Kawee. She warned me and frankly so did the bs. The bs told me to wait a month and I was just shy of it when I took my dunk. Oh well...it's water under the bridge now.

Yes Titan...I do plan to get in the hot tub again, but no boob dunking. I need to get a pillow to sit on or we need to lower the water level. At least I can loosen up my back and feet that way. I need to figure out something to wear so my shoulders don't get cold. Any ideas?

I am seeing my med onc this week. So I plan to ask his opinion too. Are any of you asking your oncs about taking aspirin? I plan to, the study published this week sounds promising.

Well could you just get one of those cold caps that some women use during chemo to keep their hair from falling out and use it on the hot boob to keep it chilled when you get in the tub?

Betsy, if you haven't been seen by a doctor in the last two days, please run, don't walk, to urgent care and get it seen today. This could be a cellulitis infection, which can become systemic very rapidly, and you don't want to go there. Frown

Here's a page about emergency care for infection:
    http://www.stepup-speakout.org/Emergencies_and_Medical_Care_lymphedema.htm

Once it's all under control, how about getting a referral from any member of your medical team to a well-qualified lymphedema therapist for evaluation? They're the medical professionals who are trained to diagnose truncal lymphedema as well as treat it. Here's a page about finding one near you:
    http://www.stepup-speakout.org/Finding_a_Qualified_Lymphedema_Therapist.htm

We could talk about hot tubs and swelling/infection if you'd like, just say the word. But for now do, please, get that redness checked out.

    Very gentle hugs,
    Binney

    Binney,

Thanks for the info. Although, I don't my situation is as serious as the articles indicate. In December, when it first started I'd say it was. Hence my many doctors visits. Up until recently I was on antibiotics and it did improve. When the last round of antibiotics ended, I kept improving, until I went in the hot tub. Then I swelled back up, got red and tender again (but not as bad as December). I figured I wanted to try to see if my body would take over on it's own with the help of the trental & vit. E. It does seem to be improved. It's borderline as to whether I should see my dr. I figured I already have an appointment this Thursday, and it doesn't feel acute...so I think it's ok. It's more frustrating than anything else. But I do appreciate your concern and I do watch it closely. So does my dh. He gets flashed every night and gives me his opinion on swelling and redness. He's a boob guy, so I think he kinda enjoys it. He'd like it better if he could feel me up the way he use to...but we are hoping that will come with time.  At least, I have a boob... I know others on this board are not so lucky. Plus my MIL gets cellulitus so I know it's nothing to fool around with. None of the drs I've seen have mentioned it. But I'm always watching for it and watching my temperature closely. One more note, I have a seat belt rule. If the belt hurts, I call the doctor. It's worked pretty well so far.

Mary - love the cold cap idea!

Betsy..since scarves are the in thing...maybe you could wrap one around your neck and just kinda have it lay around your boob too..you will be very stylish and your DH will love it......ahh funny about your dh being a boob guy...mine likes to check out my "scars"..he says they are almost gone and they are hardly noticeable anymore...he says my tattoos look like blackheads..and they do...i think they look digusting..there is only one tht you really can see and it is ugly.

I hung out with my mom and dad today a while..showed them my new "fat" around my waist...my mom told me to pull my jeans up higher...I said I couldn't.they wouldn't go any higher...funny stuff

Betsy, so good to hear it's under control for now. Lymphedema often has an inflammatory response, especially in the breast. It causes pinkness or redness, and of course swelling, that is not infection. Once it's been determined that it is not active infection, the best and most lasting treatment for it is Manual Lymph Drainage massage that removes the fluid from the breast, and eliminates the cause of the inflammation. For that you need a very well-trained lymphedema therapist to teach you how to do it (order, direction, and amount of pressure are all crucial). Take DH along to learn it so he can do it for you -- it's gentle and...uh...stimulating.Wink And done daily it'll really help with the inflammation.

You might consider drawing a line around the redness with a permanent marker so you can tell if/how it's changing.

    Be well!Smile

Oh, GREAT!!  Now I'm sick.  Cold, fever, body  aches, just miserable.  Got it from my DH.  I had the flu shot, so don't know what it is.  DH is alot better.  Course, things don't last long with him.  Anyone else had anything like this?  Fever's only like 100.1.

Had my 2nd 3 month check today..had to ask them to feel me up..now why would that be...I felt weird asking a dr to feel me up but whatever...didn't think I would have to ask..anyway..everything is cool for now...next step..mammo and bs and onc visit in May,..what a fun month..right!

He did spend alot of time with me answering several questions....I asked about scans and he said not necessary but if I really wanted one I could have one..going to think about it..not sure if I feel like freaking out again so soon..will NOT have it done in March..that is my bad month

Hi all.. well I used a marker pen on my boob today. Now I have a big red line around the red area. I also started my 4th round of antibiotics. My bs office called and have scheduled me for another BSGI. So I get to watch my boob light up a computer screen next week. They say they just want to rule everything "don't like that inference" out. I meet with my med onc on Thursday, I plan to pick his brain. I have a list of questions. I thought I'd be at the point where my dh would not need to come with me but I'm not there yet. So he is joining me.

I think I'm losing it again. I just blew off a second appointment this year. The first one was a doctors appointment...to freeze my planters wort...so it was no big deal. But today I forgot I had a hair appointment. It was on my calendar but I just spaced it. I forgot to put on my computer so I didn't get a pop up reminder. I had a very busy day...but still am embarassed about it. This year is the first time I have ever done that in my entire life and now it's times 2. Can I still use chemo brain as an excuse?

Kawee...sorry to hear you are sick. Take care of yourself.

Titan - Strange they didn't automatically feel you up, isn't that part of the normal exam? I'm glad you pushed for it... When I read March was your bad month...I realized this week is my cancerversary week. No wonder I've been a little off kilter.

Betsy..I have been off kilter also...I think it is because we are all going on a year now and we are thinking of what we were going through one year ago...I was doing pretty well brain wise and now I'm a little out of it....but we will come around.

I did not take the DH though I did think about it....

I would think that being felt up would be automatic!  Maybe the med. onc's don't do them as a matter of course?  I know my surgeon always does but I don't see him for a couple of months and I wasn't waiting until then.

I'm just not normally a person that goes around asking people to feel me up.that's all.

kawee - I just got done with that achy, fevery, feeling like crap.  It only lasted a couple of days but the back and neck pain were bad.  I think that a lot of people are getting that right now.

besty - I think that we tend to forget the appts. that aren't connected to our breast since that is the all consuming thing right now.  I know for those of us on Tamox we all feel that it makes us a little forgetful at times as well. I have been using a lot of sticky notes lately to remember things.

Peg, did you have a cold too?  My fevers gone, but cold is still there.  I swear I've sneezed 25 times today.

My Onco nurse called today.  Their all upset over there cause I won't take tamox.  She says the Dr. wants to see me on March 9.  Did any of you have to have that cancer blood test?
