Jokes?
Anyone have any good jokes to help lighten the mood with friends who are uncomfortable being around someone going through chemo? I'm 26, and the majority of my friends are around the same age, and they haven't had to experience any of their friends sick like this before. It would help me get through treatment easier if they were at ease themselves, and I'm having trouble thinking of any besides the usual "perky boobs" jokes.
(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm still learning my way around here!)

I don't have any jokes, but some things come up spontaneously -- and most people appreciated the humor, although some are shocked. I appreciate that you're trying to put your friends at ease... hopefully they'll figure that out for themselves, which is probably the only thing that's going to work in the long run anyway. Just be yourself, and share with them -- the good and the bad. They'll pick up on your mood anyway so you might as well be honest. Some people are never going to be comfortable and that's ok, too -- you'll figure out who they are and how much to share with them. Let people help -- it makes them feel needed in the face of a situation where there's not always a lot they can do. And don't forget, your primary focus right now needs to be on your own care and healing. Best of luck, and a warm hug.

NatureGrrl- Thanks for the advice. I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with all of this. I'm usually the one making soup and picking up cough medicine for friends, and it's odd to switch into this role, so I haven't really found a good way to go about it. Some of my friends have been great and I don't feel like I need to be anything other than how I'm feeling, and others have been frightened and uncomfortable, and those were the ones I felt like I needed to reassure. But you're right, I should just eventually figure out how much they can handle and leave the rest to the others. Thanks, and a hug right back to you!
spar2- Thanks for pointing me there! I could definitely use a laugh right now.

Hi Rose! I am 28 and I know it is really difficult for people our age to relate to bc. Some of my friends even said that they didn't think we had to worry about it at our age. My hair fell out so I make jokes sometimes like "I keep finding stray hair in random places and I KNOW it's not mine!" It always get a laugh. Or I joke about the "good drugs" I have.
Something to remember..... A lot of people are very uncomfortable and/or confused with all of this bc stuff. Some of the people I consider my "best firends" have not even called or contacted me since I told them about my diagnosis in November. It hurt me at first but I try to remember that not everyone knows how to be supportive. I have plenty of others who are here for me so I am keeping my focus on them.
Let me know if you ever want to talk or whatever. I can give you my personal e-mail. If not, that's ok too. I know everyone copes differently. Sometimes it's nice to talk to someone you don't really have any ties with.
I wish you the best of everything!
