Zometa

Yay Christine!! You will not regret you decision!
Good Luck!
-
Thanks all! Cheryl, maybe I'll see you there haha!
So true Kerry, best to cover that 3%!
-
let-it-be,
Both the 3% and the one third reduction could be correct. Here is why: The zometa studies found that it lowered the risk of recurrence by 34%. That's where the "one third" comes from. Suppose after chemo, your risk came in at 10%. Zometa would cut that risk by about one third. One third of 10 is about 3 percent. So now your risk would be about 7%. Do you see where the 3% came from now? I think your onc and naturo were both talking about the same numbers.
-
Hi Weety, true they were talking the same numbers, but it is semantics, 1/3rd sounds a whole lot more tremendous than 3%. And as Kerry put above:
"I just think they want you to be aware that it isn't a proven treatment. They are thinking like scientists, we are thinking about saving our lives. Different perspective! "

I think I will go with those odds as well

bumping up

Ironic that this gets bumped tonight. I have a 6 month check up and a Zometa infusion tomorrow. I couldn't even sleep last night; I kept going over in my mind the questions I want to ask, then thinking it's a dumb question. Seems like I just can't get past this anxiety thing completely, although it is better than it used to be. I will ask how many infusions I will get altogether. I'd like to know if they will stop after 3 years, although I'm not there yet, or continue annually after that. I will also ask about continuing the AI beyond 5 years, although I'm not there either. I wish the SE's of Femara could be controlled, but I know they can't, so I guess there's no use asking about that. Maybe I'll ask about the aspirin. I'm already taking 200 mg of Celebrex, a Cox2 inhibitor, so I'm not sure if aspirin with that is O.K. Well, if there's something important to ask I've not thought of, please let me know. Hope I can sleep better tonight. Hugs you guys.

Okay, this is a process, but bloodwork is scheduled and I have the prescription filled. Did any of you schedule a dental cleaning beforehand? Are root canals out of the question on zometa, should I have dental x-rays and have big work done if required?
-
Does anyone know if braces are a NO NO while on Zometa. My Onc has approved it for me. I temp. had my braces removed because I would be having chemo and I was afraid of mouth sores, metalic taste, ect. I have 2 taxol and will be done on March 9th. I had planned to have them put back on. I require less than 6 months left for my braces. What do you think? Do you think it would be safe to go ahead. I have heard about root canels and removing of teeth being a "no no" what about braces?

I don't know Frankie, I'm going to have a full once over at the dentist. I think you should discuss with your orthodontist. Good luck!
