Had my lumpectomy today
And felt good about it until the surgeon reminded me that there could be a 20% chance that there were cells outlying the DCIS. Sent me into a world of fright right before the surgery. I had really made myself feel better with the straight DCIS diagnosis.
So, it's going to be a long 6-7 days. Why do these labs take so darned long to get back? It seems like the others were much faster.
Anyway, feeling fine after surgery, lounging around tonight and relaxing a bit. No after effects from the GA, either.
With my Vicodin, I should sleep tonight.

The way I understand it if you have pure DCIS there are NO stray cells.. they are all contained in the ducts.... wishing you peace while you are waiting.. Tami

Yes I agree with you as well that waiting is the hardest part! I am also glad you are feeling well after the surgery. I had 2 lumpectmy's done and was more worried about the 2nd and they were both pretty darn easy......cosmetically not appealing but I am dealing with that each and every day! I am praying for positive results, stay strong and keep us posted! June

I got some good news late Friday afternoon. My BC called, and they got clean margins. I have cried tears of joy. I have been so frightened, and now feel a bit calmer knowing that they got the DCIS out. Still cannot believe I have BC, but all the same, feeling better.

That is wonderful news! I'm so happy for you... have to admit, I don't think much of a dr who'd send you into surgery with frightening words and statistics, but I'm glad you got clean margins.
