What does this mean:

" pTis  DCIS,LCIS, or Paget's disease of nipple without associated invasive carcinoma"

My bs has said that at this point we cannot rule out an invasive cancer until we get it all out.

thanks,

kathy

Does this mean there is some Paget's disease?

This appears to be part of the initial TNM staging system.  The P may stand for pathology, but the Tis stands for carcinoma in situ or noninvasive breast cancer.  The T category is based on the size of the tumor and whether it has spread.

N indicates lymph nodes.  My path report shows N0, as I had no positive lymph nodes.

M stands for metastasies, so in my final path report, M0.

You will not recieve a final path report until after your surgery, but based on your initial report, they believe your cancer to be non-invasive.  Further testing will bring more information.  I truly pray that you only have good news from this point forward.

The American Cancer Society has a good manual on Breast Cancer, Treatment Guidelines for Patients, which has some excellent information with a decision making tree included.  I still use it alot in my advocacy work. Hugs and prayers for you!

sounds like they are presently not sure if it is DCIS or LCIS or even Paget's; and that they feel it is non-invasive at this point; but will know more after an excisional.

I agree. I think the PTis stands for Pathology of the tissue indicates ... I would think that they found primarily DCIS but are not sure about the nipple area being DCIS, LCIS or Paget's Disease. You will know for sure once you have your surgery. Hope that you are feeling a bit better today.

Thanks Carolmarie427 - yes, much better today.  Amazing what a few days can do!  Still in trying to decide if bi or uni is 'right' for me.  Lots of soul searching.

Mom3b- best of luck in your soul searching.  It is one of those decisions you wish others could make for you but no one else can.  I too have 3 children- 8,7 and 4.  I am having a dmx on 3/26 with immed. recon.  I have found this site a wealth of information and inspiration.  You will figure it out.  Do what is best for you body, mind and soul.  Make a decision you can be comfortable with and take your time making it.

    HUGS!

Once again, you will soul search and come to the right decision.  THen just move forward with it, and never look back.  It will somehow "click" what is best for you.  Take your time, there is no rush.  I did my prophylactic nine months after my original surgery for DCIS.  Everyone is different.  You will get there.  You are in my prayers and hugs to you as well as to tamgam in this journey.
