Ask for Emend.
-
Don't wait when you feel queasy. Nip it in the bud, Get EMEND!!!!! Call your oncologist and get the prescription now, not later. don't ever wait to call your onc about the side effects. No one needs to be feeling like that in this day and age. Your onc needs to know.
CALL
good luck

My Onc also said they could get me IV anti-nausea drugs if it was really bad. You should not have to feel like this. I will echo the others - talk to your Onc!!
-
Definitely let your onc know and see about other anti nausea meds. The good news is that you only have one more!!! One more!!! That really got me through the last round. I knew I couldn't have taken any more.
-
Ask your oncologist about getting some IV fluids, even if you think you're drinking a lot. Along with Emend and compazine, that helped me a LOT. Good luck and hang in there!
-
you sure are pretty..
hope you feel better next time

notinvincible,
I did not do A/C so I don't know what to say to help. I did CMF. I do know that I feel for you. For me, I took compazine but I had to start taking it 3 days before infusion and continue for a few days after in order for it to help me. Perhaps you can try that. Hugs!!

I'm so sorry to hear how sick you have been:( Due to chemo brain...I can't remember the name of the drug they gave me, but it was a little green pill. Some sort of steriod. They gave me several of them to take before they started the chemo, they I had some to take home with me that I had to take on a regular basis for the next 3 days. the first day was like take 4, then the next day, 3 and so on. I also had Compazine, and she slao gave me a script for Lorazapam in case all else failed. I will keep trying to think of the name of the little green pills!! Hang in there...only one left!!! That's an awsome feeling!!! Will you be doing Taxol after the A/C, or will you be done with the dreaded chemo?

I would definitely mention it to your onc. For what it's worth my 3rd A/C was worse for some reason and I've heard others say the same. I have no idea why though. Good luck, I hope your next one is easier.

I never threw up, but suffered so with nauseau....my onc had me go for IV hydration for the 3 days following chemo....I often asked for the kytril in the IV.....on one of the last ones, the nurse asked if I had it at home as the IV was so much more....but I figured it was better by IV....I took any and all anti-nauseal meds...I know I got EMEND before chemo, for some reason Aloxi also sounds familiar...also took Kytril, tried compazene suppositories but it wasn't great, but BDR suppositories really helped...it is benadry, decadron and reglan....the Walgreens by me is a compounding pharmacy and they made it for me.....onc also Rx Marinol, but it wasn't great for me....also took Ativan....hope you get some relief. Hugs.
-
I got Emend and Zofran, both IV before and pills for 2-3 days after for AC. Then they gave me another - phenergan - when I was still getting nausea by evening of treatment days. I agree with the others that you shouldn't be suffering so - call your onc! All of the RN's I've dealt with so far have told me over and over to "please CALL, don't suffer".
-
Hi Honey, I had a hard tgime too with this . Speak to your onc, and get something additonal to yout mix. For what it's worth. the first 3 were the worst for me.
Hope your feeling better, please keep in mind that this time will be a memory ( not necesarily a good one , but it will be a memory )

I received IV Aloxi as a premed and took Zofran every 8 hours for the first few days..still felt nauseated, but no vomiting. The fourth tx, Emend was added to my regimen, and it really helped. It is important to take the anti-nausea meds on a scheduled basis for the first few days to help prevent the nausea. If taken just as needed, it may be too late.
I wish you the best, and hope that the last AC is less miserable!

Hi there and sooo sorry you are suffering through this!
I had A/C too (4 rounds) and only had a couple times where I actually threw up. Mostly the first week after I would just feel overall queazy and nauseous. I too got Emend, plus you may want to ask what they are giving you in your pre-med IV (you are getting pre-meds yes??). They may need to change the mix there. I would also HIGHLY recommend Ativan before treatment (maybe on the way there) to "cut the edge" on the anxiety of having to go through it again. I had a very hard time round 3 as well (other se's) and was VERY nervous about round 4. The Ativan definitely helped.
Let us know how you are doing.

Hello notinvincible, I'll just share that Compazine not only didn't work for me, it made things worse. Emend, as others have said, is very effective. Kytril helped me a lot. I'm so sorry you are suffering with this. Please get help ASAP, don't let yourself get depleted and dehydrated, as it may make things even worse. Lots of hugs. G.
Edited to add that my onc had a hotline number I could call 24/7 to help me in just the situation you describe. Call your onc and see if you can get help.
-
I just wanted to add on that I also had Emend and Kytril which I am sure I needed or would have been much worse but what really worked for me was the lorazepam.
-
I cannot remember the name of it, but I had something I took for 3 days and it worked pretty good. I took it before I had A/C and then for a couple of days after. Also I second the IV fluids!! I went in at least once a week for fluids while on A/C and that really helped me more than anything.
Sending ((Gentle Hugs))

I agree with the other posts about Emend. I went through 4 treatments of AC and took emend orally with compazine as back-up if needed (never needed it). Pre-treatment before infusion included Aloxi, lorazepam, dexamethasone. Hope you have a chance to talk to your oncologist to avoid this situation again. Good luck!
-
Talk to your onc about something different. Like everyone else said Emend is great. I was very sick after my first AC treatment. They used Aloxi during the infusion and Emend for the next three days.
I hope you feel better!
-
Hi,
3rd AC was the very worst part of chemo. Got better after that. Hang in dear sister,
Wendy

EMEND, EMEND, EMEND!!!

AGREE EMEND EMEND EMEND...have to say never got nauseaus
-
I was vomiting for six days after my first chemo--totally miserable. For my second chemo we added Emend. I also had Aloxi in the infusion. I started taking Zofran the third day after chemo. I was nauseous but never vomited. It was on this website that many recommended Emend, and I think that made the difference.
Good luck!
