MakMak: Just dropping in to post a bit of info about liver lesions. I had a PET last May after I finished all tx that showed a liver lesion. My onc ordered a liver bx. The radiologist could not locate a lesion. The final conclusion was I had "artifacts" (sounds like I'm the Titanic) left over from gallbladder surgery I'd had 3 mos. prior for a pre-cancerous "porcelain" gallbladder. All docs wanted to wait two months & repeat the PET & CT. I had those in July and everything back totally clean, nada, nothing to be seen. All tests/scans since have remained clean.
I tell you this not to give you false hope but rather to illustrate that sometimes the tests are wrong. Pursue this with all you've got and stay your organized self on a mission to health. I'm so glad you're being hooked up with the U of C doc. Everyone deserves the very best care they can find.
One of my favorite quotes is "The secret of life isn't what happens to you, but what you do to what happens to you." It was shared with me when my husband died ten years ago. It has gotten me thru many things including this bc crap since. I hope it will do the same for you.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

Good Morning Girls! Hope you're all well rested and ready to tackle this week. There's many different scenarios playing out for some of us this week - some medical - some not. Let's try to remain focused and prod through each hurdle with strength and determination.
----------------------------------------------
Budders - Everything's crossed for you with this latest "scare". I think the clean results of your last PET is a good sign. Hang in there, Budder!
Carolyn - Best wishes with your upcoming tests. Good luck with the insurance drama.
Marina - Another true story about "lesions". A couple of years before my bc dx, 22 small lesions showed up on my Lung CT. My PCP was very concerned and I thought for sure I was a "goner". Went to a Pulmonologist. He was not 100% convinced that it was cancer. He wanted me to wait 3 months and have the CT done again. After 3 months, all but 5 were gone. His opinion was that I had inhaled something environmental/toxic, such as dirt while gardening or others. My point --- there's always hope, there's always the possibility that it could be something other than cancer. And...based on the fact that the spots on your Liver are SO small, if it is cancer, perhaps the chemo will zap the heck out of them! ALSO - have any of your Dr's mentioned "Tumor Markers"?
Mich - Glad you popped in! Think about you often!
-
Good morning this morning --- with much snow at our house. This is a wear boots morning. Funny, I thought from our forecast that we would not get to the "boot" area..but here we are. Wondering how the trip home is going for Rita? Hope all is well there. Well, I admit it....I do like the snow and it is beautiful out -- lots of snow on the nude tree branches and some plastered against the tree trunks. Still -- this is what you hope you see Christmas Day maybe.....not the first good snowfall of the year coming in February. There are still flurries out but no real accumulation they say -- sort of hope not. I think I will be going over to Maggie's early and getting her done....I'd like to be home here ( sure glad I made the chili last night ) early just to enjoy the woods dressed in snow.
Cagney -- glad you talked about your "liver" issues. Like you, I would not want to second guess or have it be a matter of false hope, but at the same time -- don't encourage the gray hair panic syndrome until you are really sure the situation may warrant it. Then fight like h***. Well, heck fight like h***anyway. Of course, we all have the part that would be terrified -- but hopefully, the other part would soon take over and that is what gets you where you need to be.
Bj --- this is your day to play, isn't it??? Hope the weather is co-operating where you are. Our news is for the general Chicago/burbs area often fairly scant and seems more so with the Olympics getting lots more air time. In years past I was more into the Olympics, but ( is it age or am I still recovering this late ) I am just generally too tired to turn anything on that is "exciting" or too interesting. It really has become the boob tube for me. I get most of the highlights in the a.m. news.
Well, onward for the day I guess. Will be checking back later.
Warm hugs, Jackie

Just an update.. went for a second opinion in Niles. Turned out he is a friend of my oncologist and holds my onc in very high regard. Told me they have already talked and he agrees with my treatment 100% and at this point wouldn't do anything different. They are both hopeful that in 3 months I should see quite a lot of shrinkage and sometimes the liver can be treated completely... Laura, most of my spots are small, but there is one 3cm by 2 cm..
but they still think it can shrink completely. Also got some advice about future treatments if needed, but at this point, I'll be starting my first treatment Wed.. and am just spending time with kids and family side-effect free until then!! Was told that the SE's could be much milder with this combo.. so hoping for the best!! At least I'm still home this week to see how it goes before I start work next Monday..
Thanks to all of you who have been writing to me.. it really does help!!

Marina, It sounds like you have some good news. I know it must make you feel so much better by talking to another Doctor. You sound like such a wonderful lady. and your Doctors must all think so too. It sounds like they are really working together for you. Love Buddy

Wanted to drop in as have so much goin on and wanted to see if everyone was ok. Sorry i am not able to keep up and sending all those here good wishes and healthy ones for any tx;s or tests goin on as it is here where you will get all the support you need.
Have alot of imblance goin on and slowly getting better. Sleep is better and now seeing a Chiro female DR and really knows her stuff as it comes to the endocrine system and all that is goin on with me. My joint pain is there still and no way can i even explain the xray and all that is goin on!!!So I won;'t!!! IMy digestive system is not wokring well and alot of toxins cannot get out as well as a lesion on my neck causing the pain everywhere else.
Just want to day, that the aftermath for me from chemo has really been a opening to see where my immune system weakness is and am told, that i will be back to a whole person anhd to continue all that i am doing. Anyone knows who has issues in sleeping and disturbances there can easily be associated with your central nervous system. IF that is the case, the amino acid Taurine has been working and the rest is being done by detoxing and getting my system whole and balanced.WE are never without answers!!!You need to keep pushing forward IF you do not have the right Dr. My primary DR. offered me sleeping pills or meds for depression!!!Meanwhile i am barely functioning with fatique, no sleep and no peace within at all. I have great support now and it took 8 mos to get this!!!!
Will try to stay connected. Would like to put together a south side lunch. Have to figure out how and get that goin?!!
Be well all and know i may not be here alot but am in spirit!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN.. DEAR AND AWESOME SUSAN!!!! You have been such a blessing to know and have as a friend here.
Hugs,
Donna

Had my 6 month onc followup today (also a gyne annual). I had the day off so figured I may as well get both of those appts out of the way
I will be getting a Dexa (never had one) and also had blood drawn for the Vit D. levels, so I'll probably be back with more questions.
Where's Rita - thought she was coming back soon?
Marina-will be thinking of you Wed., as they said, take it one step at a time. Hugs to you.
SNOWING AGAIN! Although it does make everything look so much nicer than the dirty old snow-think positive right?
-
Budder - Any news?
Marina - Yes, I did know about the 2.5 x 3.5 one. Should have been more specific by saying that hopefully the bigger one will shrink and that all the small ones are completely zapped "away"...one step closer to a clean CT. Fingers crossed that they're all "gone" before your next CT. You've gotten lots done with your treatment plan, etc., in a short amount of time. Hang in there.
Donna - Wow... you too have had lots going on in. Best wishes...the next couple of weeks will reveal much. The imbalance didn't happen overnight...nor will the re-balance (I don't think that's a word). lol Any news about AZ?
-
Hi ladies:
Donna, great to hear from you and glad you are in good hands.
Marina, I think you are with my same oncologist, although I have lost track. If so, he is a good man while also being a good doctor. We spent one visit discussing a book we had both read (Why Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Kushner). That visit meant we surpassed a doctor-patient relationship and moved to a person-to-person one. I will always remember that.
All is great here and hope all is well with you all!

HI Girls...Just stopping by to say hi. Today was my day to play and shop. Oh, I love my days off and I sure wish there was more lol but spring break is right around the corner, then boating season starts hey!!! So I will be a happy little camper until them. My son the chef made a surprise visit home and cooked a fabulous dinner for us all. He will be here for a couple of weeks as his restaurant went on hiatus for 6 weeks. So for me I am lovin it.
Marina...glad to see that you got a tx plan in place for you and a wonderful md to help support you along. I know I found my bs and onc very supportive when I had a complete meltdown. They helped me find the right people to see and were there when I needed them. Hopefully they will be there and help support you along too. Praying that all goes well with your txs. Hugs to you.
Mich..glad to see that all md appts went well. I know I usually cram in a few md appts when I have a day off. It is easier that way. How are the boys doing...coming home with laundry. lol
Donna... sorry to hear about your issues. I hope you get some restful sleep soon. hang in there.
Jackie...where did you find that piano music. I love Jim Brickman and his piano music. His music is so calming. When I was in tx that was all that I would listen too and it really helped me cope with tx. His cd HOPE is very inspirational and you may like his music. Ck it out. I have all of his cds. Yes,we did get snow flurries here, but not too much. Pretty to look at. lol
Rita... are you home safe and sound yet. WE miss you.
Laura.. checked out that website....awesome stuff. thanks!!
Jan.. happy house hunting for you. Thinking about retirement is not in my near future but would like a few more days off to play. lol I had a great day today how about you.
Smerf.. are you home yet or are you still shopping and lunching without me. lol Miss you.
Zap...how was the bday. did you have a fun day.
Well I hope everyone is having a wonderful evening. It is jammie and tea time for me. Hugs to those I miss and who are in tx.
Remember to be healthy... be happy.. enjoy life.

Mich I cant wait till I can say I hve gone to my 6 month check up.
Blackjack. I think shopping is healthy for you...It keeps our heart rate up>
Zap Have you stopped working so much.
Laura. I appreciate you remembering me. You always remember everyone. Yes the scan is today. My Onc leaves Frid for vacation he said he wants to get this figured out before he leaves. I am hoping for news tomorrow. I am still positive since having the pet scan behind me. Thank you for your prayers, support and concern. Love Lisa

Good morning everyone.
as we enjoy our winter wonderland here. No snow today and guess I am glad. My car looks pretty ugly. Pewter gray/silver is not at all nice looking covered in road salt. Guess I will be hitting the car wash again soon. Our roads are clear so that is good.
Buddy that is totally terrific that your Dr. wants to get to the bottom of things before he leaves on vacation. I think it is always good to have someone who is "putting" themselves in your shoes "needing" answers. Here's hoping for a quick, easy and easy to live with answer.
Changed my avatar -- I'm thinking Spring. A bit tired of the hit and miss weather -- actually completely unpredictable, and seeming to happen totally at the wrong time weather is what it is.
Hope everyone is going to have a really good day. Stay dry and warm.
Hugs, Jackie

Illinois lady I love your new Icon. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing the first cardinal of the year.
I am in the Hospitol just had my radioactive shot. Since I have lymphedema in on arm and they are focusing on the other they couldnt inject my arms. They had to use the top of my foot. OUCH!!! It did sting for a while. I have 4 hours to burn........ Glad I brought the laptop

Jackie - I love your new avatar. Cardinals are amazingly vibrant. There's several here in my neck of the woods - I love seeing them. Bird seed keeps them coming back.

It's dh's birthday. Tradition is that I make him his favorite cookies - MONSTER Cookies. lol Each one is about 6" diam. lol Made with m&m's (although during the night he ate half of the bag), peanut butter, oatmeal, brown sugar, etc. Gotta run out and get him some milk though. lol
Hope you all have a good day!
-
Laura -- this is what I am doing as the pictures of the birds were so fantastic but I couldn't hear nary a peep out of them. Tried and tried to figure out what I was doing wrong.
AAAaaaaaarg !!!
Big hugs, Jackie

I may be ordering this kit very soon.. multiple versions in fact!!! On a good note, my blood work came back all good last week except for the liver enzyme.. so that at least was good.. No more bad news!!! That's my motto!!!

Hi, everyone! My mammogram showed microcalcification, but not much in Nov '08. Had lumpectomy at CTCA in Zion. But they wouldn't do diagnostic PET, so I had that done out of Peoria. The results showed lesions in my liver in Feb '09. That onc said it couldn't be cancer and refused to consider a biopsy. So I went to UPMC in Pittsburgh for a liver biopsy on my own in June '09! It was cancer. Changed oncs and got chemo, Ixempra, in Peoria in Aug/Sept '09. It failed after 8 weeks (Cancer grew!). Went back to UPMC for a TACE in Oct '09. It failed (Cancer grew!).
Now I am on my 5th, and hopefully last, onc. I am seeing Dr. Albain at Loyola and I feel so very well taken care of! She had me start CAF last Thursday. But by that time the lesions and tumors in my liver were so large I couldn't eat - my stomach was being cut off, I guess, or pass stool! Breathing was getting difficult, too. Today I can actually feel the tightness in my abdomen lessen. And I can eat a little twice a day. I think she found the right treatment for me.
I seriously thought Illinois had no good oncs at all! That was really scary, Sistas! But I wanted to share my story in case anyone else out there was experiencing this, too. If so, KEEP LOOKING for a good onc! They are out there. =-)

Hi Ruth,
I am so glad you posted what you have. There have been a number of people who I think have not been satisfied with the oncology care they have received -- and there are varying reasons. You have been through the mill it seems and should not have had too. So odd that so many were missing the boat with you.
I am glad to hear that your latest Oncologist seems to have discovered exactly what you need. I know there are a lot of good professionals out there, and you do make a very salient point -- to keep going until we are comfortable with the level of care we are getting. We really do need to be on top of things.
This thread is basically all Illinois women so hope you will keep coming back and sharing with us. You are always welcome here.
Hugs, Jackie
p.s. Marina Yeah on the good blood test results ( except for liver ). At least you know where to concentrate your healing energies now. And A for attitude -- no more bad news is right....your in charge now.

Hello ladies!
First of all............HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO SUSAN!!!! I'm so sorry that I missed your birthday. The wireless in the complex was not the best. It would let me on and then just when I had started to write something, it kicked me off so I quickly checked my email each day and stayed off the computer. It sounds like you had a good day!
Donna...so glad that you are sleeping better and that you're working on getting your body into "Sync" again.
BJ...You're right! It will soon be boating season and you'll be foot loose and fancy free again! Think spring!!!! Isn't it nice to have your son back for a visit? There's just something special about a mom and a son. I still get excited when mine comes home for the weekend and he's lots older than yours!
Buddy...Hoping for the best with your scan.
makmak...Welcome to the Illinois ladies thread. We're sorry that you came looking for us but glad that you found us. It sounds like you've had your share of "bumps" lately. Hugs to you! I'm so glad that the bloodwork came back O.K., except for the liver enzymes and am so glad that you have a team that's working well for you. Hang in there and take it one day at a time and remember that we are here for you whenever you need to talk or vent. You've been officially adopted on this thread so there's no getting away from us now! LOL
Ruth...so glad that you posted your story. I'm also glad that you continued to be pro-active and have finally found an oncologist that's taking a special interest and working closely with you to get good results. Come back often!
Michele.........good to hear from you. It sounds like your onc check-up was routine. Isn't it nice to be just "routine?" I'm hoping for the same thing in a couple of weeks.
Well, I have laundry to do and I want to get to yoga tonight. I haven't been in three weeks so the old body will probably moan and groan all evening long. Remember how good I was doing with my sugar limitations? Well vacation took care of that for me. Now I need to get back into that routine again, too.
How are you doing, Ginny? It's time to check in again.
I'll be back tomorrow!
Sending good vibes to all of you who are going through tests or doing treatments...and best wishes for good test results.
Rita

Good morning friends.
Donna Its so good to hear from you.
I had some arm shoulder pain and a lump xray was abnormal. Went for bone scan waiting for results. shoulder pain is better. My back has been unbelievably sore for over a week. its off to one side. I am hoping I just pulled a muscle. It hurts more when I move certain ways. I hjave never had pain like this.....

Morning to all on this chilly and icy in places morning. Was recalling some of our Februaries here where we had the windows open to air out the house. We have about 11 more days till the end of the month and I am thinking -- this ain't going to be one of those years.
Found a lost dog on Woods Lane yesterday. I left her with the lady whose house was closest to where I found her. My friend found an ad in the paper for a lost dog....I took the paper and stuck it in this lady's door -- hope she found it and called those people. Was a cute black Pug.
Nothing much going on today but my usual. Buddy -- hope you hear something soon. Donna, its also great to hear you are making progress.
Rita....glad you are back. We all missed you and had to have fun in the snow without you.
I'll be checking in later. See you all then.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Ruth - Wow...you had quite a rough time finding a Dr. I hope you continue to feel better with your new treatment. Best wishes to you.
Jackie - Too FUNNY! I hope your head feels better today! lol
Rita - Welcome back.
Budder - Pain patches work well. I've used the one with Acetaminifen (sp?) in it. Hope you're feeling better today.
---------------------------------------------------
Hope you all have a nice day!
-
Well, I'm off to my first tx.. heard it can take 4-6 hrs the first time.. I sure hope they let me use the bathroom, as I started drinking gallons of water to get ready.. My port is finally not as sore so hopefully they can use it.. Today starts the beginning of the rest of my life... just wish my tummy wasn't all in knots... I think I've decided to shave my head on Sat and just put on the wig.. that way I get used to it for work on Monday and never see falling hair..
Have a great day everyone.. and I'll report back tonight...
-
Thinking about you today Marina. I think to a person we all experienced the first time fright of chemo. For most, it ended up rather anti-climatic and we came away wondering I think why we let ourselves run wild with what if fears that just did not materialize. Still, it is good to be cautious as there can be se's. You ( usually ) are watched fairly close for this and hopefully you will come away from this first endeavor not having so much trepidation but a healthy respect for the process.
I second your decision to just get it over with as far as the hair. It tends to have some trauma since we are defined to a degree by our "crowning glory", but I haven't heard anyone say they regretted taking charge and just getting it gone. Saves a mess and as well, every hair in my head and all over my scalp hurt and itched -- so it gets messy coming out and doesn't feel too good either.
You do get to go have b-room breaks as you will find out -- cumbersome to a degree, but it will work. Here's hoping for an un-eventful first chemo.
Hugs, Jackie
