Ascites
Hi! I have just been diagnosed with StageIV BC. My stomach was distended, went in for a cat scan and voila Stage 4. I have had a paracentesis twice to relieve the pressure in my abdomen. Any body else going through this? I am still meeting with drs to find out best course of treatment. Also mets to bones. SandyKC

Bumping your question up, sbraatz.
Sorry about your recent diagnosis. Is your cancer estrogen sensitive (ER+)? Did they look too at your ovaries?
I hope the paracentesis relieves some of your discomfort and you start treatment soon.
Best,
Tender

Sbrattz,
I'm sorry you didn't get a lot of responses. We're usually a lot better on the boards. I'm so sorry you are going through this too. Words seems so inadequate, but I hope that you find a great treatment that will wipe this thing out.
Many Hugs
Bobbie

I am so sorry to hear that. That must have been such a shock. Let us know how you are doing. Hopefully the docs will come up with a great treatment plan. Once they know all the tumor characteristics (ER and HER2 status) they will have a plan for you.
Take care,
Helena.

I have pleural effusions which are like ascites around the lungs and have had them drained several times. I know its not exactly what you are going through but as close as I can get. I know the procedures I had were not fun... so sending hugs your way.

I´m have a recurrence march 08 with liver and peritoneal mets.
I had ascites too and I had a paracentesis last week.

I had the same diagnosis (peritoneal cancer metasized from the breast) and also had two parencentisis last November 09. My original onoc told me I would have to have chemo 3x a month for the rest of my life. Went to a second opinion and I have been on Femara now since Dec.1st 09 and have not had one symptom since. I only had those episodes in November and I swear it was only because I was extremely constipated which can happen to me when I travel extensively. I now make sure I go everyday and I have not had one symptom and my blood work is excellent ( i changed onoc) Please let me know what you decided to do ...I only wish I had read this earlier. Either mine is a misdiagnosis or Femara is a wonder drug.

Smart23, I am wondering how you are doing? I also had ascites with no clear diagnosis but they knew it was bc recurrence, paracentesis 4 times then on to chemo, abraxane. I am done with abraxane and on aromacin and so far no more ascites.

Wilsie2,
This is an old post. If you click on Smart23's user name you can see she hasn't been seen since 2010. Of course, we all hope it's because she has more fun things to do than deal with bc! If you search, I think you will probably find more current threads on ascites.
